c13: Vegeta's Pride Battle
Goku and Vegeta had just returned from their latest round of training with Whis, the angel attendant of the God of Destruction, Beerus. The two had been sparring in Whis' hyper-accelerated training dimension when Goku suddenly sensed something—a surge of malicious ki and without hesitation, he used Instant Transmission to return to Earth.
But the moment they arrived, what greeted them was a massive, ominous red energy sphere hurtling toward the planet—Frieza's Death Ball, brimming with enough power to wipe out the Earth in seconds.
For the first time in a while, both Goku and Vegeta visibly tensed. Their expressions hardened as they locked eyes with the descending blast.
In the same instant, they raised one hand each palms forward and caught the Death Ball mid-air!
"HAA!!"
"RAAAH!!"
With matching shouts, their Super Saiyan Blue auras erupted around them like storms, the ground cracking beneath their feet. The force of their combined ki pushed back against the giant orb, their arms trembling but their wills never faltering.
And then
BOOM!!
The Death Ball was launched skyward, where it detonated high in the atmosphere, painting the sky a brilliant, terrifying crimson.
From afar, Frieza's expression twisted in disbelief.
"Impossible!!" he hissed, before vanishing into the clouds to escape the blast radius.
As the red light faded and the air settled, Goku and Vegeta landed gently, their auras slowly dimming. Goku scratched his head, frowning.
"What the heck's going on? Why is Frieza back… again?"
Before they could ask further, the other Z Fighters rushed toward them—Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, and even Master Roshi.
"Dad!" Gohan called out, relief flooding his voice.
Goku smiled. "Gohan! Krillin! You're all okay… What happened here?"
Gohan wasted no time and quickly explained what had happened: Frieza had been resurrected—again and attacked Earth while they were off-world. Luya, a Saiyan from another universe, had done his best to hold him off.
Hearing this, both Goku and Vegeta's faces hardened.
"That damn Frieza," Goku muttered, fists clenched.
"Always causing trouble. Trying to blow up Earth again, huh?"
He then turned to Luya, smiling appreciatively.
"Luya, right? I heard you're a Saiyan too. Thanks for holding the line. We couldn't sense what was going on here from Beerus's planet."
Luya nodded calmly.
"Frieza was even tougher than I expected. I pushed him back once, but I couldn't finish the job."
"Don't worry," Goku said seriously. "Now that we're here, we'll handle it."
But before Goku could say more
"HEY!"
Vegeta stepped forward, arms crossed, eyes narrowed.
"Kakarot, don't you dare get ahead of yourself. Frieza is mine. I've been waiting for this."
He glanced skyward, where Frieza's ki had flared again in the distance.
"Since unlocking Super Saiyan Blue, I haven't had the chance to crush that lizard myself. It's my turn."
Goku blinked, then chuckled.
"All right, all right. You can have the first round. But doesn't this feel kinda familiar?"
Vegeta paused, then smirked coldly.
"You mean like the time Trunks came back and vaporized Frieza with one swing? Yeah. Back then, I hadn't even reached Super Saiyan yet."
He suddenly looked at Luya with curiosity.
"You said you came from another universe, didn't you?"
Luya nodded.
"Correct."
Vegeta frowned slightly, intrigued.
"Hmph. So there are other universes with Saiyans besides Universe 6. And you can transform too. What's your home universe like?"
Luya raised his brows and smirked.
"Let's just say… it's awesome."
Vegeta blinked.
"Awesome? What the hell does that mean?"
Everyone nearby fell silent.
"…."
Luya resisted the urge to laugh and clarified,
"It means our universe is extremely powerful. Constant battles. Constant growth."
Vegeta narrowed his eyes.
"How powerful are we talking?"
Luya answered with a smirk.
"Very, very awesome."
Vegeta's eye twitched.
"You little!!"
He clenched his fists, visibly annoyed.
This guy was either playing dumb or had an extremely irritating way of speaking.
But before he could bark back, a terrifying pressure descended again—Frieza's ki surged, signaling his return.
Vegeta's annoyance vanished. He stepped forward, aura beginning to flicker.
"Enough jokes. It's time I remind Frieza exactly why he fears the Saiyan race."
"Stop chatting and focus! Frieza isn't just stronger—he's a lot stronger than before!" Goku cut in suddenly, eyes never leaving Frieza. While Vegeta and Luya were talking, Goku had been locked in, sensing the enemy's power and the fighting spirit was already blazing in his eyes.
"Hmph! Let's make one thing clear!" Vegeta snapped arrogantly. "Frieza is mine! None of you interfere!"
Goku hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded. "All right, I'll let you go first. Just don't screw it up, Vegeta."
Luya interjected, serious: "He's not the same Frieza from before. He's achieved the Golden Frieza form—be careful!"
Vegeta snorted, arms crossed. "You think I haven't improved too? I've surpassed that form. Taking him down will be simple."
Luya sighed internally. Classic Vegeta. Proud, strong, and a bit reckless. He knew how this usually played out a lot of talk, followed by a tough lesson.
But instead of arguing, Luya simply retreated with Goku and the others to the rear.
He had used too much energy already both the Sevenfold Kaioken and Super Saiyan 2 had taken a toll. Right now, he didn't even have enough left to attempt Super Saiyan Blue, let alone keep it stable. He'd have to recover first.
"Krillin, got a Senzu Bean?" Luya asked, turning to the shortest of the Z Fighters.
Krillin nodded without hesitation. "Of course! If it weren't for you, we'd all be dead right now!"
He quickly pulled one from the pouch and handed it over.
Luya ate the Senzu Bean, and within seconds, his fatigue vanished. His strength surged back to full.
"Huh...?" Goku suddenly looked over at Luya, his expression sharpening.
He could sense it now Luya's ki was massive, nearly rivaling his own base form.
This guy... he's no ordinary Saiyan, Goku thought. He's close to my level already...
Elsewhere, Vegeta calmly walked up to Frieza, who had just finished restoring some of his stamina. The golden tyrant looked up in surprise.
"Ho ho ho... who do we have here?" Frieza sneered. "If it isn't my old subordinate Prince Vegeta! How nostalgic."
Vegeta's expression darkened. "Hmph. Don't flatter yourself. I was never your subordinate, Frieza."
Frieza chuckled. "Still prideful, I see. Very well, Vegeta. Why not join me now? Help me eliminate Goku and that strange Saiyan, and I'll make you my right-hand man. I'll even give you command over half the galaxy."
Vegeta was silent for a moment. Then a sly smirk curled on his lips.
"Hmm... tempting."
Frieza's eyes lit up, convinced. "Excellent! I knew you'd see reason."
Vegeta slowly walked closer. Frieza grinned.
But from afar, Bulma's expression changed.
"What's he doing?! Don't tell me he's going to betray us!"
Goku remained calm, arms folded. "Nah... Don't worry. Vegeta's not like that anymore. He's not the same man he used to be."
Luya didn't speak. Instead, he closed his eyes and began analyzing his internal state.
The Senzu Bean had restored more than just his stamina—it had reset his control. His Kaioken side effects were null, and due to the intensity of the earlier battle, his Saiyan growth boost had triggered again. His power had increased slightly, but enough to matter.
His current base power level had risen to 6.7 billion, about 200 million more than before.
Using his system, he quickly scanned Goku and Vegeta's current base levels:
Goku: 6.9 billion
Vegeta: 6.8 billion
They were almost perfectly matched, and the gap between the three of them wasn't wide. But with transformations added in, the real difference would come down to stamina, technique, and willpower.
For now, Luya knew his role was to wait and watch. Vegeta had earned his right to settle things with Frieza.
But Luya was ready.
If things went south, he wouldn't hesitate to step back in—and this time, he'd unleash everything.
