Chapter 57: Chapter 57: Beerus: I Should Show Off to Champa!
"This Power of Destruction really is something special—it actually boosts my strength directly!"
Beerus couldn't help but admire the new energy pulsing through his body. Even with his immense power as a God of Destruction, he could clearly feel the increase. Just one portion of this energy had noticeably elevated his already monstrous strength.
"If I can feel such improvement... then if someone like Champa—who's far weaker than I am—used it, wouldn't he experience a massive boost?"
Beerus grinned at the thought. Compared to his own level, Champa's power lagged behind quite a bit. That was no secret to anyone. So if he could improve with just a little destructive energy, it would definitely work wonders for Champa too.
"But what a shame. That guy Champa isn't part of the Thug Group," Beerus muttered with a sigh.
Now that the group had been upgraded to Level 2, new and powerful rewards like the Power of Destruction were accessible. Beerus didn't know whom Jack, the group leader, was planning to invite next. But one thing was clear—he wanted to show off.
And who better to show off to than his twin brother and eternal rival, Champa?
Just the idea made Beerus excited.
"I should definitely find Champa and brag a bit!"
The thought alone made him chuckle to himself. Without wasting another moment, Beerus sprang into action. He called for Whis, his loyal angel attendant.
"Whis, contact Vados for me."
Whis blinked, a bit surprised. "Contacting Vados?"
Normally, angels didn't casually contact each other unless there was a serious reason or an order from their respective God of Destruction. But if a god requested a connection, it could be arranged.
Whis nodded and carried out the request. Moments later, a projection lit up with Vados, the angel of Universe 6, on screen. Standing beside her was none other than Champa, looking grumpy and confused.
"Beerus? What do you want all of a sudden?" Champa asked, narrowing his eyes.
Although Whis initiated the contact, both angels and gods knew that Beerus must have been the one behind the call. Angels, after all, rarely spoke to each other unless it was official business.
---
Beerus immediately noticed something unusual.
"Huh? You're not eating or sleeping?" he said with a smirk, surprised to see Champa neither snacking nor snoring.
Champa huffed. "Do you really think those are the only two things I do all day, Beerus?"
But before he could build up his pride, Vados casually exposed him.
"Lord Champa just woke up, Lord Beerus. If you had contacted us a bit earlier, you would've found him deep in sleep."
Vados' voice was calm, but the playful tone in her words cut deep. She enjoyed teasing Champa—probably a little too much.
"Vados! Was that really necessary?!" Champa snapped, glaring at her. His cheeks puffed up slightly, like a sulking child caught red-handed.
Ignoring the minor squabble, Champa turned back to Beerus.
"Alright, what is it this time? Did you just call to mock me or is there actually something important?"
Beerus smirked. "Not exactly important. I just wanted to let you know... my power increased a little—by accident."
"Oh, that's all—wait... what?!"
Champa froze mid-sentence, his mind catching up to Beerus' words. "Did you just say... your power increased?"
Beerus nodded, feigning modesty. "Yeah, just a little."
---
Champa couldn't believe what he was hearing.
It wasn't like improving your power was unheard of—but Beerus? The Beerus whose power had been stagnant for ages? That was something else entirely.
He racked his brain. The last time he talked to Beerus wasn't that long ago. If Beerus had gained strength back then, he definitely would've boasted about it.
"Hold on," Champa narrowed his eyes. "How did you do it?"
Beerus leaned back with a grin. "Would you believe me if I said it's just talent?"
Champa rolled his eyes. "You do have talent, sure. But it's not like you can randomly gain power just like that—not in a few decades. Maybe in a few thousand years, I'd buy that story. But now? I'm not convinced."
Beerus chuckled.
"Well... if you promise not to tell anyone, I'll let you in on the secret."
Champa leaned closer instinctively, his curiosity piqued.
"I've been visiting other worlds, you see. Helping people out. And they were very grateful. It's amazing what kind of rewards you can get when you lend a hand."
Beerus' chest puffed up in pride.
The truth was, ever since he joined the Thug Group, Beerus had been itching to show off. But he restrained himself. He figured it'd be more satisfying to complete a mission and then brag to Champa.
And as luck would have it, not only did he complete the mission, but he also received a boost to his power from the Power of Destruction—a rare prize made available after Jack leveled up the group.
Looking at Champa's confused expression, Beerus felt deeply satisfied.
---
"Other worlds? What the heck are you talking about?" Champa muttered, eyebrows furrowed.
Beerus smirked. "Hehe... it's something you just wouldn't understand."
Champa looked even more frustrated.
"Lord Beerus, if you hadn't joined the Thug Group, you wouldn't know either," Whis interjected calmly, glancing at his own master with a hint of envy.
Beerus' smirk faded for just a second. Even Whis, who had been watching Beerus show off, felt a little frustrated inside. After all, he hadn't completed a mission yet. He hadn't even traveled to those other worlds.
Beerus had taken the lead, and now he was enjoying all the benefits.
---
Back in Universe 6, Champa scowled.
"The Thug Group, huh...? What is that even supposed to be?"
"You're not part of it, so of course you don't know," Beerus said smugly. "Only the elite get invited."
"I don't need some dumb group to get stronger!" Champa protested.
"Oh really? Then how come you've been stuck at the same power level for eons?" Beerus jabbed.
Vados stifled a chuckle behind her hand. Watching these two argue was more entertaining than any TV show.
Champa puffed up again. "Vados! Stop laughing!"
"I'm not laughing, Lord Champa. I'm simply... enjoying the atmosphere," she said with an innocent smile.
Beerus decided to twist the knife further.
"And by the way, thanks to Jack leveling up the Thug Group, I got access to more powerful rewards in the group mall."
Champa blinked. "Jack? Who's that?"
"Oh, just the leader of the Thug Group. A rather mysterious but generous guy. Thanks to him, I've improved my strength."
"Hmph. If I joined, I'd surpass you in no time," Champa muttered under his breath.
Beerus heard it.
"Well, good luck with that. If Jack ever considers inviting you, that is."
---
At that moment, both gods paused.
Would Jack invite Champa?
The thought lingered. Now that the group was Level 2, Jack had ten new slots to fill. There was a real possibility someone like Champa could join—if Jack saw value in him.
For Beerus, the thought was slightly concerning. If Champa joined, the window to gloat would close. So he made sure to maximize his show-off session now.
"You know what's even better, Champa?" Beerus said, voice oozing with smugness. "This is just the beginning."
He turned slightly to Whis.
"Whis, when do I get my next mission?"
Whis pulled out a floating crystal panel and glanced through the updates.
"Soon, Lord Beerus. Jack has hinted that a new round of missions is being prepared. You may get another assignment shortly."
Beerus nodded, already imagining his next power boost.
Champa looked on, a storm brewing in his eyes. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but deep down, he was itching to join too.
---
As the projection started to fade, Beerus delivered one final blow.
"Anyway, I just called to say... try not to fall too far behind."
With a mischievous smile, the screen blinked off.
Champa stared at the now-dark projection in silence.
"Vados."
"Yes, Lord Champa?"
"Find out more about this Thug Group. I want in."
Vados smiled.
"As you wish."
