Chapter 120: Chapter 7: House of Horrors
Chino no longer attacked the giant wolf. Instead, she darted about the battlefield, relying on her nimble movements to evade every blow. The ground was cracked and cratered, clouds of dust rising everywhere, but none of it hindered her dodging. Again and again, the frying pan missed its target.
The giant wolf grew increasingly agitated. Chino's expression also darkened—prolonging this any further would only put her at a disadvantage. Still, she refused to give up and kept going.
Time ticked by, second after second. And then—at last—the game ended.
Chino was teleported out of the whack-a-mole mini-game, her physical state instantly reset. Hunger and fatigue vanished in an instant.
"So strange… How is this even possible?" Chino was stunned, a mix of awe and faint fear stirring in her heart.
"It seems the games here have time limits. You don't have to win—just lasting until the end is one way to clear them."
Just then, everyone became eligible to proceed to the next game. A small box slowly floated down from midair and landed in front of Chino.
"A reward?" Chino blinked, shocked. A game this malicious actually gave out prizes?
"Open it already!" someone urged.
Others stood by, sneering and watching with cold amusement.
Chino opened the box. Inside was a massive pile of smiley-face stickers, all printed with the word:
"Positive Review."
"…What the hell kind of joke is this?!" Chino's eye twitched. "This is way too many 'good reviews'!"
No one could understand the true purpose of Blood Mist Amusement Park. What kind of person would go out of their way to create something like this?
None of it made any sense.
Although they were allowed to move forward, Tsunade still hadn't decided whether to stick with the group. But it wasn't up to her.
With a sudden whoosh, the environment changed again.
Like it or not—she had to go!
Shizune whispered urgently, "Tsunade-sama, ask the Slug Sage for help. Use Reverse Summoning to escape."
Tsunade shook her head. "Already tried—quietly. Summoning doesn't work here."
Shizune gasped.
In front of them now stood a dilapidated building with a sign that read: "House of Horrors." It was clear this was the next game.
Even without thinking, it was obvious nothing good waited inside that house. Tsunade stood motionless, unbothered. Kankurō and Shizune hid behind her. Because Chino had eliminated a large number of people earlier, most of the current players had no idea what was going on. Everyone froze in place.
Tsunade pondered—if no one steps forward to participate, how would Blood Mist Amusement Park respond?
She didn't have to wonder long.
A soft glow enveloped the group. The next moment, the scenery changed—they were all forcibly transported inside the House of Horrors.
Trying to exploit bugs? Not that easy~
"Welcome to the Palace of the Moth God."
A swarm of moths formed these words midair.
"What a bunch of superstitious nonsense!" one brash young shinobi snorted, then spat out a Fire Style jutsu.
The next instant, he collapsed, wreathed in black smoke. His entire body was scorched, barely clinging to life.
His Fire Style had passed harmlessly through the moths, only to reflect back onto himself. He'd taken his own jutsu full-force, completely unprepared. No ordinary person could survive that.
No one dared act recklessly after that—not until the moths dispersed.
Suddenly, Tsunade's sharp ears picked up someone crying for help. She wasn't the type to show excessive compassion, but when the voice belonged to Shizune, that was another matter entirely.
She turned—Shizune was gone.
She asked Kankurō, but he replied with a confused expression,
"She's always been alone. No one was standing next to her."
Tsunade's heart skipped a beat. She looked around the room—no one else seemed to hear Shizune's cries.
She didn't hesitate. Following the voice, she sprinted off without a second thought.
It wasn't the most rational thing to do. But after so many years together, reason meant nothing in the face of emotion. If their positions were reversed, Shizune would have done the same without hesitation.
The cries grew more faint and distorted. Along the way, Tsunade passed bizarre sights—walls covered in creepy moth graffiti, like the remnants of some twisted ritual.
A moth flew straight at her. She swatted it dead with one hand—but moments later, the crushed creature reformed, its wings fluttering as it resumed pursuit.
"This is insane!" Sweat beaded on the tip of Tsunade's nose. From the outside, the House of Horrors didn't look that big. But she'd been running down this corridor for what felt like forever.
Something was watching her from the far end of the hall—she could feel it. And yet, no matter how far she ran, the distance never shortened.
Shizune's cries gradually turned to sobbing…
...
Shizune ran frantically through a corridor. After they were pulled into the House of Horrors, Tsunade had vanished in the blink of an eye.
In a panic, she thought she saw Tsunade's figure flash past at the end of the hallway and gave chase.
This hallway was impossibly long—far longer than the house's outer dimensions should allow. At the end was a door, left slightly ajar. Shizune heard a noise and tiptoed inside.
"Tsunade-sama?" she called softly. But there was no one in sight—only a shrine resting at the center of the room.
Atop the shrine sat a black box.
Shizune gazed into it. The inside was like an abyss—no end in sight. It felt like a gateway to Hell. Faint sounds echoed from within: heavy breathing, the footsteps of some unknown creature.
Then all the moths drawn on the walls suddenly sprang to life, flapping their wings and scattering shimmering powder. It looked toxic.
Shizune covered her mouth and nose and staggered back—
Suddenly, a hand grabbed her wrist.
Startled, she spun around, ready to strike—only to see that the person holding her was Tsunade.
Shizune's eyes widened in relief. "Tsunade-sama! You… Where did you go?! You disappeared all of a sudden!"
"I spotted a strange creature," Tsunade said softly, gently touching Shizune's neck as if to comfort her. "I didn't want to alert it, so I went after it quietly."
The tenderness in her voice was soothing—but something didn't feel right.
Tsunade… being this gentle?
That wasn't like her at all.
...
Tsunade didn't know how long she had been running. At last, she reached the room at the end of the corridor.
Shizune's sobs were coming from inside.
She pushed the door open without hesitation—but found only the shrine, and on it, the black box.
It was the box that was crying.
Pale, lifeless hands slowly reached out from inside. And then—something began crawling out.
Remembering her earlier experience, Tsunade didn't attack outright, afraid of another backlash. Instead, she gave it a cautious, light punch.
...
"Ah! There's a monster!!" Shizune shrieked as a giant moth burst out of the black box—its wings massive, its face disturbingly human, with hands where its antennae should be.
The creature threw a punch at her—slow and soft, easily dodged. Shizune countered by hurling a few poisoned senbon in return.
...
Tsunade deftly avoided the barrage of toxic barbs the moth monster fired at her. Inside the black box, Shizune's cries still echoed. Tsunade's heart clenched. She grit her teeth and clenched her fists tight.
If it meant saving Shizune, a few injuries were nothing!
