Chapter 150 Hunter's lane

Hunter's lane was the name of a large area located near the lake, it was considered one of the best hunting areas making people believe its name was because of that, but it actually carried on from the time it used to be just a popular trail. Experience tales with empire

The lush vegetation and tall trees turned into a beautiful natural sighting, but the view was spoiled by the presence of many insect-like creatures all over the place.

The second year college students were all hands on deck fighting off the nasty creatures, though Uriel was doing his best to avoid battle at all costs. He wasn't really as scared as he was disgusted by the insides and the viscous liquids coming out of the many cryptids being defeated all over the place.

Although the cryptids were many, they were only of the beast rank which meant that the only ones in actual danger were the evolved. Nevertheless, the driver was particularly invested in keeping cryptids as far away from the vehicle as possible by brandishing a steel hammer with ferocity.

"Get away from my baby you ugly fuckers!" He shouted in between blows. "Help me out here! If Bloobloo gets destroyed we're as good as dead."

"Don't be so dramatic, these things are falling like flies!" Rocky said with a wide grin as he kept throwing sharp rocks at the helpless cryptids.

It was the first time Uriel saw such carnage falling on to cryptids, even the evolved were fighting off the creatures with great success. Bugs of all sorts and sizes were dying by the bunch, to the point any bystander might have pitied them if not for their ugly appearance.

Spiders curled up with their legs upward, scorpions twisted and trembled before dying and hornets fell to the ground like deadweight. The battlefield soon became carpeted with carcasses and empty shells, but the cryptids wouldn't retreat, they were simple creatures without a sense of fear or camaraderie, they even ate their own dead in the middle of the battlefield.

This didn't sit well with Uriel who could only watch as a sizeable portion of the flux orbs was being lost in front of his eyes but, even if he wanted to do something about it, everyone's priority was to survive.

"Watch out!" Amy shouted as a huge serpent emerged from the mud. It was a monster rank cryptid with protruding venomous fangs and brimming yellow eyes, its body was covered in scales and its tail finished in a round-ish spiked ball.

Uriel could feel there was something different about it but he lacked Luna's extensive knowledge in folklore so he gave up in trying to identify the serpent and simply pointed his gun at it. Noticing Uriel's intention, Rocky took a couple steps forward and stopped him from firing his weapon.

"There's no need for you to fight, you're only in your first year and this is your first time with us. Just trust us, we got it covered." He cracked his knuckles and lifted his arm on the air. After a deep a breath, a small amount of flux energy swirled around him for a brief second and he let out a rock bigger than the previous ones.

The serpent cryptid reacted to the incoming attack by turning back and catching the projectile mid air with its mouth and swallowing it whole. It then waved its tail and launched a rock bullet of its own pointing directly towards Amy, though it was the male evolved accompanying her who blocked the hit with an alloy shield.

The force of the projectile was enough to send him flying back a couple meters, but thanks to his efforts Amy was ready to counter with her short spear.

The serpent twisted over and over trying to lift enough mud to blind the huntress, but Amy made the most of her ascended physical prowess and leaped on top of the serpent poking a hole on its body. The cryptid writhed in silent pain but still countered with a tail strike that left Amy completely out of breath.

Just when the serpent was spreading wide its jaw ready to finish the job, Rocky unleashed a rapid fire of stone bullets to the cryptid in order to cause it as much pain as possible, keeping it from attacking the helpless Amy.

Everyone gathered near the wounded cryptid pointing their weapons at it, giving the couple of evolved the chance to rescue Amy. It was a magnificent display of team effort, everyone knew exactly what they needed to do and acted in a timely manner like clockwork.

Uriel was baffled by the knowledge and experience showcased by his new companions, It seemed to be the complete opposite to his own party that was filled with disfunctional members. The scaredy Sam, the awkward Luna and, even though Uriel had a hard time admitting it, his own character was flawed.

The only member who was both strong and skilled was Medusa, but she wasn't the perfect companion either. Especially after what she did to him.

"Hey new guy! snap out of it! That serpent is escaping, It's a monster rank and we can't let it go." Rocky gave Uriel a small nudge on the side.

"Don't! It's not worth it!" Amy shouted to the top of her lungs, but she was still out of breath and her voice was barely registered by her companion who left everyone behind and followed the broad path left behind in the mud by the serpent.

"Sage, stop him before he does something even more stupid. We'll follow after you as soon as we can." Amy commanded as she struggled to stand up with the help of her friends.

Uriel knew catching up to him would be impossible without using the Dash skill, but that was something he wanted to avoid at all cost unless someone's life was at imminent risk. Even if he enjoyed their company and they were good to him so far, he was just getting to know them and didn't know to what extent he could trust them.
