Chapter 802: City of culture Part 2
"So you're saying there is an actual god of death!? The religious implications are fucking heavy!" Nika blurted out finding it difficult to believe Saint Germain's words.
"Please, don't say that word. You might get cancelled." Saint Germain uttered.
"Sorry, I am religious, I just tend to swear a lot." Nika apologized profusely but was left stunned when the man continued.
"Not that, just don't mention religion. Not long ago, people would have rallied to burn you at the stake just for saying that word, if you're a spiritual person just say that instead." Saint Germain's words left Nika both embarrassed and puzzled which prompted Uriel to explain even further.
"Religion has always been a touchy subject, but it's even more so for people in this country because they took part in the crusades which was essentially a war for religion," Uriel then turned to Saint Germain and asked. "what do I need to do to keep this dagger?"
"Does this mean you agree to help me out?"
"Just say I'm interested." Uriel shrugged, highly suspecting that whatever the case Saint Germain would let him keep it anyway due to the fact that every time he asked Uriel to make a choice it wouldn't actually affect the outcome.
"This dagger is the only object that we know of that can kill 'him'. You do know who am I talking about, right? Don't look so surprised, you and I went through more or less the same ordeal in Chichén Itzá. Back then I was just a Spanish Conquistador searching for immortality and I spent years investigating that accursed place."
"So you passed the tests?" Asked Uriel.
"Yes, just like you I had to play the game in the ball court, I had to take my priestess to the Templo de los caracoles, I also prayed at the warrior temple before challenging the first men, but by then I already had what I wanted so I just left with my prize and never looked back."
"Actually... I didn't go through any of that." Uriel awkwardly said.
"How is that possible!? I know you met 'him' and I also know you released him from his prison. I felt it in my gut!" For the first time since Uriel met him, Saint Germain showed a shocked expression on his face. If not for that, Uriel may as well have believed that the man sitting in front of him was omniscient since up until that moment he seemed to know Uriel's life by hand to the point of even anticipating his movements.
"Well, well... looks who wants answers now." Uriel crossed his arms and said with a smug. "if you want to know you'll have to answer me a few things about angels. For instance, I think you mentioned before that you cannot intervene in human affairs too much, then it turns out you are a governor." Before Uriel even finished speaking the door was open and a balding man with a thick black mustache entered the room.
"I'm sorry for taking so long. It's an honor to meet you, Mister Sage. I am the governor of this city, Hernan." The man walked in for a handshake and when Uriel wanted to notice Saint Germain had disappeared into thin air. Sneaking away directly in front of a hunter nose was supposed to be impossible, but Uriel assumed he just grew his wings and flew away.
What happened in reality, was that Saint Germain took the chance when everyone was distracted by the actual governor and climbed out the window, though the only one who saw him running away was Luna who peeked over the window. She thought it was amusing that an alleged angel would do something like that and a faint smile appeared on her face.
Uriel explained what just happened to Hernan who cleared the misunderstanding while fumbling curses under his breath towards Saint Germain who wasn't related with the government in any way.
"Please excuse him, he's always been a bit eccentric but he's actually a pretty decent hunter." Said Hernan, though that only sowed more question in Uriel's mind. Questions that sadly, he wouldn't be able to get from the governor.
"The reason why I summoned you here taking such extreme measures is because I am in dire need of your company's help, but they hadn't returned to the city for a couple weeks now," The governor said, then continued after Uriel nodded. "I need you to capture as many beast rank cryptids as you can and bring them here."
"Impossible, cryptids cannot be taken alive." Luna replied with a blank expression.
"That is what we thought too, but your company was able to secure many specimens for us. I do not intend to poke into your company's secrets, I just want to reassure you that your secret is completely safe with us. As the governor of the city, however, I'm in a tough spot as I really need you to bring more."
"How many are we talking about and why do you even need them for?" Asked Uriel hiding the fact that he was completely baffled by the entire situation.
"About a hundred will do, but you can bring twice as many if the price remains the same as last time." The governor handed Uriel a sheet of paper that came from the Cryptid hunting agency that pointed out the best hunting zones for cryptids that could prove to be easy to capture and Uriel handed it to Luna.
Uriel didn't want to commit to such a task, especially not with so many things in his head, but he wanted information about his company and he had learned that people had the tendency to be more agreeable after completing a business exchange of any sort.
With this in mind Uriel agreed on the spot, but he used the excuse of the task he was just handed to extract as much information as he could from his companions. From what the governor said Uriel learned that their company had been particularly active in their country for an extended period of time.
They disclosed the fact that their CEO had remained on America and they also said it was possibility that he might arrive shortly after them so they handed the governor a picture of Uriel, which explained how were they able to identify him.
This let him know that they not only thought it was a possibility that Uriel would tail them, but they actually expected it. Not just that, they must have also known that the governor would ask him for some cryptids, which meant that his decision to accept the task was the correct one.
During this conversation Luna could barely hold her excitement. Knowing their friends were in good health was great, but the fact that they managed to capture cryptids alive aroused her intellect and she made all sorts of theories in her mind about how they could accomplish such a feat when not even the government was able to do so.
She also wondered what exactly was Uriel's plan to capture the cryptids, unaware that Uriel's intention was to just give it a try and ghost the governor if it turned out to be much of a hassle.
"Just one question before we leave, why do you even need live cryptids?" Asked Uriel.
"To study them, why else?" Luna answered.
"Actually, that is not correct. The reason why we need cryptids may feel foreign to you, but we use them for entertainment." The governor explained.
"As if... adult entertainment?" Nika let out an exaggerated gasp prompting the governor to rush his answer.
"No, I know lots of people have their kinks and we respect their liberty to be degenerates at home. But we use them in the Plaza de Toros."
"No way! Bullfighting against cryptids! With the traditional dress and the rapier?" Uriel let out in excitement.
"it's called an estoque, but yes." The governor nodded.
"We will absolutely get you the cryptids you need!" Uriel said out loud while inwardly thinking 'even if I have to summon my jaguar spirit for this, I cannot let the opportunity to watch a traditional bullfight pass.'
After their conversation with the governor the Dungeon Raiders, or rather, the three members of said company were escorted to a five star hotel and although it had everything it should have, compared to the ones in Hollywood felt lacking.
For one, the prices were incredibly higher which let Uriel know how did Hollywood stayed relevant. Then there was also the matter of the amenities, which weren't up to date as the air conditioner failed from time to time. Fortunately, for all their shortcomings, the hotel made up in their cuisine which Luna found delicious, Uriel deemed 'Okay' and Nika wouldn't complain as long as they had beer.
"You can eat and drink all you want here, but If any of you even thinks of getting room service, I'm firing you on the spot." Uriel glared at both Nika and Luna to make his point across.
