Chapter 826: How NOT to fight a god

By the time silence was made the hunters were all sprawled on the ground like shrimps. The pain caused by the sound alone was too much even for their enhanced constitution and blood trickled down from their ears. No one was spared of the pain caused by the being that inhabited the depths of the sea, making it clear that even if it was benevolent it wasn't a friend to them.

Thanks to her trait Nika was able to exit the bunker before Uriel even opened the hatch, though she regretted it the moment she laid eyes on the creature that at that precise moment crawled out of the sea.

"A fucking crab!?" Nika blurted out in a dazed panic.

"If you give nature enough time, all creatures end up resembling a crab. That is because it is the most efficient design." Luna explained as she marveled at the sight of the creature. Her sense of wonder was almost enough to overrule the fright such an imposing creature caused, but not quite. Such contrast of emotions along with an already frail body almost caused Luna to pass out, though she couldn't allow herself to lose consciousness at such significant moment.

In order to keep her teeth from clattering she clenched her jaw and shut her hands into gritty fists to stop the tremors. When that wasn't enough she bit her tongue filling her mouth with the metallic taste of blood, hoping the pain would keep her awake. It could be said that she went through great lengths not to faint due to her being an ascended, but although the rest were heavenly rank hunters they didn't fare much better.

"I just pissed myself." Brown said in all seriousness.

"Good to know I'm not the only one." Nika joined in.

"It's a natural reaction to..." Luna couldn't finish her sentence as Uriel dropped her on the ground like a hot potato. Somehow, she landed on her feet and now that the brunt of the god's flux energy had come to pass she was able to stand on her own. "I will hold it so you can escape." She shook like a leaf, but the determination on her eyes was so intense it broke through her poker face.

"Huh? Now you want to play the hero. There's no way you can hold it for a second, I'll handle that thing." Uriel said as he took a step forward.

"Uhm... no, you see... it is my last wish"

"Shut up, you're not dying." He grunted in annoyance.

"I am, if you can't accept the facts, then..."

"These are the facts." Nika faked a cough to get Luna distracted long enough for her to grab the tiny huntress and run away. Luna could do nothing but be carried away like luggage as she saw Uriel's figure becoming smaller in the distance, though the gigantic figure in the background seemed to become taller by the second.

Brown's reaction was to follow Nika realizing soon enough that Nika's speed was far superior than hers despite her carrying Luna.

At that moment, Captain Atkinson took the administrative decision of staying behind. They faced an impossible scenario in which survival was not even an option and the only thing that mattered to him was going down with honor. Having accomplished his mission, the only thing that could add to his posthumous rewards would be to sacrifice his life for the survival of his subordinates.

"I was right about you, you are indeed a good man." Uriel said with a semblance of a smile.

"And I was wrong about you." Atkinson said, though he himself was unsure if he meant he was wrong about Uriel's character or power, but the answer came soon to him when Uriel extended his hand for a handshake and as as soon as Atkinson replied the gesture in kind he was tossed away. A feat that would be absolutely impossible for an evolved.

Running for the hills was the only sensible thing they could do as the sea was infested by sea monkeys and knowing Uriel, it wouldn't be safe to remain by his side during the fight that was about to start. Unfortunately for them, the wastelands lied right after the hills who acted as a natural barrier against the clouds of dust that could poison them.

Atkinson experienced the closest thing to teleportation as he was in one place one second, then the next he was at what he thought was an impossible distance. But that was not all, despite being tossed away with such force, not a single bone broke in his hand during Uriel's movement.

That was because he took a page from both Luna's and Medusa's book. Luna's way of hurling people was so convenient Uriel thought it would eventually become a mainstream tactic, especially when paired with one of the martial art moves Uriel learnt from Medusa that made it more efficient while also reducing the physical strain.

Uriel stood his ground as the supposed god that looked like a crab drew near proving to be even bigger than they expected. The enormous crab covered in seaweed they assumed was its entire body was only its head and it actually possessed an anthropomorphic body that looked muscular in spites of its exoskeleton, though Uriel's eyes didn't linger in its body for too long as its maw was the most unsettling feature he could ever imagined. It was made of countless small crab legs that cackled sonorously creating a strange humming sound, oddly similar to a thousand insects. Just that noise was enough to send shivers down Uriel's spine, let alone the rest of the impossible enemy in front of him.

And yet he stood his ground, not because he had given up his life but because he had a plan, an arsenal of artifacts to accomplish it, a glistening coat of flux energy to protect himself and a motive powerful enough to give him the courage to kill a god.

"This is your last warning, back off now or I will be forced to use violence," Uriel said to the deity that casually walked past him ignoring him entirely. Its height was taller than most skyscrapers and its chitinous legs so distant from each other Uriel's opportunity to strike had come and passed before he could actually move which made him angry. "I'm talking to you, you oversized shellfish!"

When insulting it also failed, Uriel reminded Atkinson pleading him to stop using his cursed artifact, probably because it would enrage the deity and that was precisely what he intended, though the second the book appeared on his hand he regretted his life choices.

It was as though a flip had switched and the being identified as Arausio went from completely ignoring Uriel's presence to turning back and staring directly at him. With eyes as big as a house, a sense of pure dread and insignificance filled Uriel.

Uriel then took a step back under the watchful eyes of his friends. They assumed he was retreating, but he was actually crouching to activate Dash and lunge himself as close to the beast as he could right after storing back the book of the dead inside his trait. Mid flight he summoned the Red thread of fate to his right and the Magnum revolver on his left, swirling the former in the eye like a lasso and firing the latter to the cryptid's eyes.

With such a big target not a single bullet missed, just as his knife also didn't miss and lunged its blade in the crack between two hard shells allowing Uriel to pull himself closer to the god without stopping the bullet rain.

"He's actually fighting a god!" Atkinson's jaw metaphorically hit the ground as he couldn't be more shocked.

"How can someone be so fast!?" Gasped Brown when Uriel landed on the gigantic god from the depths of the sea and proceeded to strike at him with the Red thread of fate. It wasn't just shock, but outright envy what triggered her reaction.

Uriel climbed, slid down and squirmed in all the crevasses he stumbled upon trying to find a place where the shell was softer or any exposed muscle following a carefully planned path, though from the outside it looked as pure violence unleashed.

The smaller creature was usually at a disadvantage in a fight, but Uriel learned in Spain that the bigger the cryptid the easier it was to fight against them and there was no reason why the same couldn't work against a god. Not just that, the reason why sea monkeys were so problematic was precisely because they were too small to fight against. Uriel didn't get to see them in end, but just the thought of something infiltrating inside his body and tearing it down inside out was disturbing to say the least.

And disturbing was one of the two words that could be used to describe the scene of a hunter picking a fight against a god. The other word came directly out of Luna's lips.

"Insane, he is certified insane."
