Chapter 983: Run to the hills
Zeus was taken aback due to the large flux energy concentration that came off from Uriel while he performed the dance, though the olympian god couldn't tell whether he was more shocked by the power being displayed in front of his eyes or the ridiculous movements that came along with it. Despite his awe, he nevertheless braced himself for an attack by growing the lightning in his hand even larger though it was unnecessary as the attack never came.
The only visible effect of Uriel's performance was a soft rain that kissed the ground everywhere and anywhere and for all the energy spent there was no other effect than just getting wet.
"Interesting choice of skill." Zeus belly laughed, inwardly annoyed that his opponent was not taking the fight seriously. Had he let the human he was currently using as a vessel remain conscious during the possession, Walter would have informed him that nothing could be further from the truth as even though Zeus was right about it being just regular water it was also the most powerful skill ever used by any living creature.
After his short laughter, Zeus pointed the tip of the lightning bolt towards Uriel and took impulse before throwing it like a javelin at which point Uriel wanted more than anything in the world to remark the phalic significance of Greek divinities obsession with pointy weapons, but he was too busy chanting the words that came to his mind.
For the longest time he had been trying to figure out how to activate Rain dance not knowing it was the skill that Water warlock used to destroy the world the first time it ever happened. But now he knew it and he knew full well the consequences of his actions.
The gods were not the most powerful creatures in creation and they also weren't the smartest, they were just remnants of past civilizations. People from many different species who were lucky enough to survive the different world endings by hiding inside dungeons. It was precisely for that reason that Uriel used Rain dance.
Killing Zeus was out of the question because the only way to do it would be to find his biological field and defeat him in his own domain. Destroying his vessel would only anger Medusa and trapping him inside a dungeon would require finding the Axis mundi that kept him tethered to the physical world, which was also impossible to do in such a short time. Had Uriel known from before that Zeus was so powerful, that would have been the easiest solution no matter how difficult it would have been to identify, find and steal said relic, but now that time was limited his only choice to defeat Zeus without killing Walter works was for Zeus to choose to leave him alone and that could only be achieved by actually destroying the world.
Zeus hand moved in slow motion thanks to Uriel's enhanced perception of time, but the same couldn't be said about the lightning as the instant Zeus let go it moved faster than Uriel's physical body could react. However, now that rain was falling all over the place there was no need to even attempt to dodge.
The impact was powerful enough to destroy objects down to the molecular level, yet when it came in contact with Uriel's body the only effect it caused were a few droplets of water being expelled from his body.
"What sorcery is this!?" Zeus gasped.
"The time for answering questions is over." Uriel muttered as he walked slowly almost casually towards the god. The sword in his hand emitted a soft blue glint maybe reflecting the light on Uriel's eyes which grew brighter as he drew near the god of lightning.
Zeus hesitated for a second before launching another lightning without even bothering to say the name of his skill. It was one he developed centuries ago with the sole purpose of killing what couldn't be killed, titans. The skill itself was powerful enough and the speed at which lightning bolts came out of his hands was nothing to scoff at. But despite the constant attacks he unleashed, they couldn't even make Uriel's body flinch beyond a nudge caused by the lightnings.
Watching the young hunter walk towards him with unrelenting calm despite receiving the full might of the strongest god with his body made Zeus flinch in fear, but stayed his ground nevertheless as he went on determined to spend up to the last drop of flux energy left in him.
"I always wondered," Uriel spoke with calm, his voice almost soothing. "what would I do if I ever had the power to do whatever I wanted. Would I kill those who offended me? Would I try to make things better for everyone?"
"Stop right there, I'm warning you." Zeus grunted, but Uriel didn't even acknowledge his words. He kept on walking, water gushing out of his body instead of blood whenever Zeus struck him with lightning.
"That is too dirty, too much work... maybe travel the world, eat delicious food or whatever, but then it hit me. It's always the same, it doesn't matter where you go you'll always end up bored. Living forever is such a pain in the ass and I'm only in my mid twenties." Uriel chuckled, now almost at melee distance from Zeus who decided it was time to jump back a few meters.
"Stay back or else..."
"What? What will you do? What could you possibly do to me? You wanted a fight to death knowing you will live after, but not anymore. Even if I was to win against you, you've already taken so much from us that you've already won. No," Uriel shook his head. "it always comes down to this. If I can't win, then I'll make damn sure no one can."
As Uriel spoke those words he disappeared from Zeus' line of vision and appeared right behind him, though this time he didn't bother to attack Zeus and merely walked past him towards his friends.
It took Zeus some time to understand what happened, but when he realized what Uriel had done a sense of abject horror filled his mind. The rain was not just on the vicinity, it wasn't just a few clouds here and there but rather the entire planet was being afflicted by it. Zeus wasn't known for his intellect, but even to him it was obvious that flooding the entire planet was only a matter of time and judging by the speed at which the water level rose it wouldn't be much more than a month.
"Are you so crazy that you're willing to destroy this world just because we killed some insects!?" Zeus shouted in outrage.
"It's funny how you call us insects, considering you were once one of us." Uriel replied, barely shifting his head to the side to speak.
"It's useless, I'll survive this. We, the gods, will survive this!" An enraged Zeus insisted.
"Sure, run to mount Olympus or wherever it is you call home. Survive and live to become one of the forgotten gods, the outdated remnants of long gone species." Uriel spoke for the last time to Zeus before reaching his friends who waited for him bearing serious expressions on their faces.
"You're insane, all of you... you're..." Zeus didn't know what to say or even what to think anymore. As the king of the gods he was revered by millions. Even those who didn't believe in him, as long as they prayed within the boundaries of his territory would empower him which gave him the false impression of being almighty. He wasn't like those cowards gods who feared pain and he actually liked to fight against powerful opponents, especially if they were capable of hurting him, but the kind of hurt Uriel inflicted upon him by humbling him was beyond Zeus' worst nightmares and he decided it was best to just give up and retreat to a dungeon where he would be safe.
Medusa ran towards her grandfather and hugged him for a long time, tears coming off her eyes but not a hint of sadness. It was hard, scary and painful, but after all their combined efforts they finally defeated the gods and she was able to reunite with both her mother and Walter.
"Such an idiot, he really thought you would do it." Nika patted Uriel on the shoulder while dedicating a mocking chuckle to the naive god.
"Stop this rain, uhmm... I don't know how to swim." Luna admitted.
"Really? I would have guessed you'd float. Unlike me, I'm so fit I sink in the water like a hammer." Nika laughed cockily.
"Uriel, why are you so quiet?" Medusa asked after making sure Walter was fine and only asleep. Uriel's reply was so shocking and horrifying it was as if all of their fears were nothing in comparison.
"This skill cannot be stopped, the world really is going to end."
