Chapter 5: Visitor
The cyclopean tower trembled, falling apart piece by piece as if the unrelenting pull of time had finally caught up to it, Harris and Jack watched from afar as it crumbled to the ground sending tremors across the desolate wasteland.
The tower soon became nothing but rub.ble, then dust until eventually fading from existence like a phantom, along with the corpse of the colossus, in a way it had accomplished it's purpose finally becoming the tomb of the mother and her children.
Jack clenched his fist, his eyes burned with fury as he stared at the spot the tower once stood but most of all he was glad to be alive.
His eyes turned to the lifeless sky, his memories of the white death were still fresh in his mind and even though he was healed, his body still remembered and ached with pain.
"Did you bring me back from the dead"
"That's impossible, all i did was patch you up" he paused "more importantly shouldn't we be leaving"
He loosened his clenched fist, letting out a heavy sigh relieving himself from those thoughts for a moment.
Jack had so many questions to ask but knew Harris would never give him any answers "no, not yet, the carriage also needs some patching up".
Harris gazed at the carriage, its weathered wooden frame splintered and cracked, the wheels precariously holding together, barely clinging to their axles. It looked like one good jolt would send it crashing to pieces, hanging by a thread as it was.
"Then you better get to work"
Jack stared at him in shock "what, you aren't gonna help"
Harris smirked "I saved your life didn't I, I think I've helped enough for one day".
He turned around and walked away, a gust of wind suddenly blew past, sending his coat up in the air, dancing in the wind.
'I know you're watching, so why don't you just come out"
The sky shattered raining unto the earth like shards of glass, mountains split apart as if a great sword had cleaved the great earthen structure as entire land masses buckled under an unknown force.
Time froze, and the world stood still. Shards of sky drifted lazily across the world, converging to form a majestic throne, as if the heavens themselves were reshaping reality.
A humaniod being of white light, clouded in thunder decended from the gaps in the sky, the broken world shuddered under its presence as he sat on his throne.
Harris stared at this being with fearless indignation"You did all this for me, I'm flattered"
"Why have you come here, butcher" Harris entire being shuddered, the space around them seemed to groan under the weight of it's voice.
"I thought that would be clear" he paused as a vile smile crept it's way onto his face "to make sure you and your friends, starve to death"
The being remained unshaken by his audacious words instead it's face contorted to a smile "you insolent wretch, if I so wished, your soul would be ripped apart, hanging over a sun"
"Go ahead, try it, then you'll never be able to find *****"
The radiant being smile twisted to a frown, the ground beneath its throne shattered.
Thunder clashed with the earth.
Heaven and earth descended upon each other.
The being stared down at Harris with it's flaming eyes.
"You insolent cow, I'll take my leave... for now".
The being ascended into the air, leaving through the gap in the sky into the void and time returned.
The majestic throne shattered, the pieces floated into the sky sealing the gaps
The mountains merged as the earth reconstituted itself and then time began to flow again in it's normal pace.
.....
Three days had passed since the white death incident, in that time Harris did nothing but watch the sun rise into the grey skies of the forgotten battlefield and descend to the earth.
At night while jack slept, when darkness had stolen the day, he would rest on the crimson sand and stare at the empty night sky, watching as the crimson sparks illuminated the night, in their warm embrace.
During the day while they rode across the perilous wasteland, he would wear his usual expressionless mask, his thoughts were unreadable and incomprehensive but beneath all that, there was chaos.
The carriage rode through the wasteland its wooden wheels creaking in protest as it traversed the barren terrain, the horses' hooves kicking up clouds of dust that hung in the desolate air like a mournful sigh.
"Sparrow"
Harris turned towards jack "what"
"Sparrow, that's my last name"
Harris turned "Sparrow, you're last name's a bird, no wonder your best friends with a horse"
Jack frowned "it's normal in the world I come from" he quickly directed his focus to the rode ahead narrowly evading a piece of bone "What was your world like"
Harris lingered in thought for a moment and said "it was beautiful".
"That's all you're gonna say"
"Yep"
Their journey to the last settlement continues
