DxD: Lost in Time

Chapter 32: Hesitation: Tainted But Innocent Soul

[A/N: This chapter focuses more on introspeaction, so please bare with me. This will determinine whether Grayfia defects early or not. Oh yeah, almost forgot. There was this one guy who complained abput the last chapter and I am sure as hell he would complain with this one.

I am writing human and relatable characters, not robots. I do agree that the tension between him and his mother in Chapter 7 was too much, but Hisashi hates devils and is still traumatized. He watched his father and countless others die in a day. He wasn't used to bloodshed in all of his lives.

You telling me you can just keep on living like nothing happened? Unlikely.

If you don't like my work, you are free to leave and don't announce your departure, I will extend to all like minded individuals who support this. I need constructive feedback and not the opposite.

For everyone else who like my work, we good. At least you guys understand that sometimes, you have to face reality.]

"Why are you sparing me? Surely, you don't like me." Grayfia's voice carried both confusion and disbelief as she stared at me, her silver eyes slightly widened.

I had my reasons. I believed she would eventually join our side. Only then could her family's fate change. Grayfia wasn't evil—far from it. That was precisely why I fought her.

Another reason I revealed my Hollow powers and identity was simple: I had a failsafe. If I were killed, I would enter a state of Resurrección. Right now, I stood at the peak of the Ultimate class rank—the 3rd Rank of the Foundation Establishment.

Killing me wouldn't be easy. And even if they managed to do it… I'd drag them to hell with me.

Natsumi had accidentally revealed our relationship, but they would likely assume it was just personal—not familial.

I could be wrong.

Another reason? Why not? As long as I didn't alter canon too much, things wouldn't spiral out of control. Great. I sound like a Nara.

As for why I wasn't fazed by blood, why I was this strong—it all boiled down to experience. I had been tempered by countless battles against Yūzui, sharpened into something beyond mere humanity. And, of course, there was Serafall's influence.

I had some really great teachers.

Once this war ended, I would break through—thanks to the potential Yūzui had unlocked.

With my strength and appearance, Grayfia couldn't say no, right?

...Who was I kidding? I wasn't sure if I was that handsome.

Besides, if I did that… where would Millicas come from?

...

..

.

Me and my big head.

I couldn't help but smirk at myself, the absurdity of it all striking me even as I stood tall in the air.

And then there's Serafall, who should I go for first? Well, definitely Serafall. [A/N: You won't change my mind on this one.]

"Like I said before, Lucifuge, your heart is in the wrong place. Take this as a warning," I called out, my voice laced with undeniable authority. There was no mistaking it, my words carried weight, the kind that could shatter any resolve.

"If you don't change sides..." I paused, my gaze narrowing as I gathered my power.

"You will lose everything, and it won't be by my hands that your blood stains the ground. Think of this as helping out a tainted, but innocent soul."

The Hollow mask was already in place, and the surge of energy within me was instinctual. Without a second thought, I activated Sonidō, feeling the wind rush past me as I moved at incomprehensible speed. In a blink, I vanished, leaving only the faint echo of my warning hanging in the air.

Grayfia stared into the space where Hisashi had stood just moments ago. The impact of what had just happened still reverberated in her mind.

Defeated

Not by a demon, not by a fallen angel, but by a human. A teenager, no less.

She felt an unfamiliar sense of helplessness well up inside her. She'd been trained for this, her entire life dedicated to becoming the ultimate weapon for her family's cause. And yet, here she was, uncertain.

Her wings unfurled, their glossy black feathers catching the light of the battlefield.

She spread them wide, preparing to take flight, but there was hesitation in her movements. She couldn't shake the feeling that the "demon" wasn't the monster she'd been led to believe.

"If what this child is saying is true, if his origins are what he claims..." She couldn't ignore it.

Every word he spoke hit deeper than she'd like to admit. His confidence, his strength, and his insistence that he was not just another adversary, they all seemed to suggest there was more to him than met the eye.

Her wings beat the air gently, but they were no longer sure. There was a shift within her, an uncomfortable gnawing in her chest that she couldn't quite name. He had shown her his power, but it wasn't the power that unsettled her. It was the reason behind it.

His motivations, his words.

"But this world doesn't tolerate weakness. It's their fault, not mine." Her internal voice pushed back, cold and rational, a product of the world she had known all her life. The weak were crushed. That was the law. The world was a battlefield, and only the strongest survived.

But now, standing here with the remnants of his words echoing in her mind, she couldn't help but wonder. Could this world really be as unforgiving as she'd been led to believe?

Grayfia stood still, her wings unfurled but unmoving. The words he had left her with echoed in her mind, and the weight of them made her feel oddly unsteady. She had always followed her duty, had always placed her obligations first—until now.

Were they worth it? She couldn't shake the question.

She had never known the agony of losing a loved one, had never felt the crushing weight of grief and helplessness. But he experienced all of that when he was just four. He couldn't be making things up.

The thought haunted her. His words weren't just a warning, they were a glimpse into a painful reality she couldn't ignore.

Her gaze softened as she thought about the boy who had stood before her, so powerful, yet so scarred. She felt a deep, uncomfortable sensation twist in her chest.

She couldn't just dismiss him as another enemy. His pain was raw, his conviction undeniable.

For the first time, she questioned the path her faction had been taking. The bloodshed, the cruelty

Was it truly necessary?

Her thoughts were interrupted by a sharp jolt of realization, a disgust that surged through her. What have I become? She had always justified the violence and the destruction, but now, with the weight of boy's words pressing down on her, it all felt hollow, senseless.

She wanted to make things right, but how? Could she?

The final warning still lingered in her mind: "You will lose everything."

What did he mean by that? She had no idea. It left her unsettled, restless, and unsure. But for now, she couldn't afford to linger on it. Duty called.

She readied her four pairs of devil wings, pushing the thoughts aside. She would find the answers in time, just as she always had.

With a heavy heart, she took to the skies, headed for the battlefield.

Meanwhile...

"What was that, Yūzui?!"

The air crackled with tension.

"Hey! In my defense, I wasn't at fault!" came the quick reply, as Yūzui sounded in his head, equally not amused
