"They were the closest of siblings," The Governor-General interrupted quietly. "Yes… I do remember listening closely to these rumors.
And I learned myself that most were… awfully mistaken."
Blue eyes widened at that comment. "How so?"
A sigh left his lips. Maybe he shouldn't be talking about this so carelessly.
But then again he was dealing with someone that was supposed to be him…
from another dimension. This could actually help in preventing some unnecessary complications.
Maybe. Or maybe it was going to complicate things for the poor Angel.
…
"When Michael was instructed to bring my entire group down. To have us removed from Heaven for having disregarded God's rules of conduct,"
Azazel started to explain with a serious tone. "When I saw him, brandishing his weapon and demanding my approach, I was afraid and confused.
While he was stern even then, it just felt… odd for him to go through such a terrible resolution. I thought he would've let us be since we were brothers and sisters to him."
…
"He didn't… didn't he?"
Another sigh. "He went through with the task. He was merciless in pushing us off from holding onto our home, our birthplace… and while doing so, I also saw something happening from within him, a turmoil."
…
"He was crying," The Fallen Angel muttered. "I never saw him do that. He had seen so much, and gone through so many horrible gauntlets, but this was the first time he showed something so intense and raw like sadness."
…
"Did it… hurt? Leaving home- our home?"
She wasn't writing anymore on her notes. The topic was just too unpleasant to write down and remember on a latter date.
For once, he could tell that she was taking the topic as seriously as possible and… he was surprised to see her halo flicker for a moment.
Not in sin, but in uneasiness.
"At first, it was horrible," He admitted with a tight voice.
"We were all afraid of the possibility that God would have personally come down to end us now that we were no longer considered his children.
We were all terrified of Hell deciding to take us as scapegoats for its hatred against Heaven."
…
"But?" The Angel asked, her voice so frail that it almost cracked.
…
"But I found out rather quickly that… life can't be lived in utter fear," The Governor-General replied.
"I couldn't fight the terror, but I could still work while facing it on a daily basis. Instead of groveling and hope for redemption, I decided to do the smartest thing I could've done.
I stopped… believing and hoping for Heaven, and decided to make my own home with those that were suffering like I was."
"Is this why Grigori exists?"
"No," He muttered, a tiny smile finally breaking through his melancholic expression. "This is Grigori."
Her eyes widened in surprise, her lips parting for a moment as her mind took a moment to register the simply powerful answer.
It was somewhat amusing, but far from the one he had when he first realized it, after years spent aiding and improving the life of those believing in his cause.
"I will tell you this as advice. Not one you should be believing wholeheartedly since your dimension is different from mine, but one that could potentially help you if some events play the same as happened with my past,"
Azazel spoke once more. "You will face choices that will make you consider some of your loyalties.
Not because of people influencing you, but rather because your morals are what many wouldn't like to have around."
"Why?" The curious Angel inquired quietly. "Why would they be… afraid of me?"
"Not of you. But… of your curiosity," The Fallen Angel replied.
"Curiosity is the endless thought of doubt. And doubt is the prime terror of those that know a system is flawed… and they don't want this to be revealed."
…
"During my first years away from Heaven, I found myself contemplating why God was so against Angel commuting with Humans.
Why He disliked the concept of us bonding with those that are also children of His," The man resumed his speech.
"And I found the answer to that unpleasant question as I thought back to when Michael acted against us."
…
"And… that is?"
"Despite him crying, despite him being unwilling… Michael still acted by His rule and command.
Despite his desire to forgive and mend the broken bridge, he was forced to act against the paradigms of Free Will… and do you know what is the prime element of Free Will, oh little Angel?"
She blinked, either surprised by the pet name, or feeling squeamish at the unpleasant subject.
"Curiosity."
Azazel smiled again.
"Indeed."
…
…
"I'm… sorry," The young woman apologized. "I… I expected you to be in the wrong. I would always get in trouble and told that… that I'm the one at fault for being too eccentric with my studies. That I think 'too much'."
She deflated even more at her own words, but the Fallen Angel stared and felt unhappy with the fact he had done the opposite of what he had planned to accomplish.
He wanted to encourage her to not fail in despair… and yet she was already failing like that.
Maybe he could fix it somehow. Surely there has to be a way to handle this without messing things up even more.
...
"Are you hungry?" He inquired, drawing the girl out of her unhappy mood.
"W-What?"
"Are you hungry? It's early in the morning and-"
Before he could finish that sentence, he paused at the soft noise of a little belly rumbling.
His smile turned mirthful as his counterpart blushed at the awkward 'response'.
"A-A little bit. Yes."
He nodded, standing up from his chair and walking around his desk. "Then I guess we could visit the kitchens and… get ourselves some breakfast."
Her eyes brightened at that proposal.
"Can we do some pancakes?"
Azazel blinked, remembering that it was the 'lure' that got her to eventually follow the strange human, this 'Helltaker', out of Hell and to his home.
…
"Sure, I wouldn't mind some chocolate filled ones too."
While that tense meeting left them both thinking and considering the past and the future, the Angel couldn't help but find this still enlightening.
Despite her fears of Falling, she now knew that someone was going to be there and… help her form a big family. A family to be proud and happy of.
A Grigori for her to rule benevolently and with kindness, in open defiance with the unfairness of strict rules.
