"Argh!"
"Haah!" Mika and Issei traded blows, their fists colliding repeatedly, a flurry of over a hundred punches exchanged in a matter of seconds.
Caught up in the heat of the moment, they abandoned all pretense of defense, their attacks connecting with brutal force.
However, the outcome was far from even.
Fueled by Issei's strength, Mika's excitement grew, his punches becoming faster and faster.
Although Issei managed to break through his Magical Armor, he couldn't inflict any significant damage.
The wounds were shallow; after all, he had to break through the armor first, and the remaining force was negligible.
Besides, Mika's armor regenerated instantly as long as his magic power reserves weren't depleted.
And thanks to his enhanced healing, the minor wounds quickly closed, leaving only the tattered remains of his clothes as evidence of Issei's attacks.
Issei, on the other hand, was in a far more…disheveled state.
While he, too, possessed armor—Scale Mail, activated by his Balance Breaker—it lacked regenerative capabilities.
After Mika's initial barrage shattered the armor on his face and chest, his body was exposed, bearing the full brunt of Mika's attacks.
His face was bruised and bloodied.
Finally, with a powerful blow, Mika sent him crashing to the ground.
The moment he landed, his Scale Mail vanished.
The timing was perfect; Mika had timed it precisely.
"Issei!" Asia rushed to his side, using Twilight Healing to mend his wounds.
Mika landed gracefully, stretching. "Ah, that felt good! Nothing beats a good, old-fashioned fistfight." He walked over to Issei, a smirk playing on his lips.
"So, did you learn anything?"
"Yeah… I learned a lot," Issei replied with a wry smile, his body aching. Mika hadn't held back completely.
After all, his objective was to experience the power of Boosted Gear, not to simply beat him senseless.
Once Scale Mail was broken, he had reduced the force of his blows.
Otherwise, Issei wouldn't be merely bruised and bloodied but likely—Headless.
As for the "lessons" Mika referred to, those stemmed from their earlier training sessions. Issei had no natural talent for combat, magic manipulation, or any other skill.
To teach him, Mika had to rely on repetition, drilling the techniques into his muscle memory through countless sparring matches, often leaving Issei bruised and battered.
This current duel was simply a more—dramatic version of their usual training.
"Good. I'm glad you learned something. Otherwise, that beating would have been for nothing," Mika said, pulling Issei to his feet as Asia finished healing him.
They headed towards Akeno, Yuuto, and Koneko.
"That was an exhilarating duel!" Akeno said with a smile.
"Both Mika-senpai and Issei-senpai are strong," Koneko remarked.
"You've improved a lot, Issei. Even I couldn't have lasted that long against Mika," Yuuto said, clapping Issei on the shoulder.
"Heh, am I really that good?" Issei grinned, scratching his head, pleased by their praise.
"You're strong, Issei-san!" Asia declared boldly.
"Of course he is. I can personally attest to that," Mika added, patting him on the shoulder.
Issei beamed.
"You seem to enjoy the feeling of progress, Issei," Mika said.
"Yes! I will continue to improve!" he declared.
"In that case, how about we spar like this every day?" Mika suggested.
He enjoyed their duels. Unlike Riser, who relied on ranged magic attacks, Issei, wielding Boosted Gear, was a powerhouse, his strength amplified by his Sacred Gear.
In his Balance Breaker state, he was even stronger than Riser, though he couldn't maintain it for long.
Mika preferred fighting against pure strength.
"Huh?" Issei's smile faltered.
While he enjoyed growing stronger, he wasn't eager to be beaten up every day.
"Wait, Mika! I can only use my Balance Breaker once every three days!" he exclaimed, remembering Ddraig's warning.
His body wasn't strong enough yet to handle the strain of repeated transformations.
"Then once every three days it is." Mika nodded.
"The reason for the three-day limit is your weakness. I'll continue training you, so you can eventually use it daily, for at least half an hour each time. That will significantly enhance your strength." He smiled, anticipating their future duels.
He had been itching for a good fight since arriving in this world, and Issei, while not the strongest opponent, was still a worthy challenge.
"Understood—" Issei replied, a sense of dread creeping into his heart as he imagined his future training.
But the thought of rapidly increasing his strength under Mika's guidance, becoming a High-class Devil, and finally building his harem, quickly rekindled his enthusiasm.
After their duel, they decided to stay at the villa.
"Since we're already here, why not relax for a bit? Buchou gave us time off, after all. Isn't it more fun to relax here than at home?" Mika suggested.
The others agreed, and they entered the villa, enjoying their unexpected vacation.
However, after a brief period of rest, they couldn't resist the urge to train.
...
...
Mika once again found himself in the role of a mentor, sparring with Yuuto, training with Koneko, discussing magic with Akeno, and exchanging blows with Issei.
In this relaxed atmosphere, they all improved rapidly.
They were all incredibly talented individuals.
Mika couldn't help but marvel at the Gremory clan's ability to attract such gifted individuals.
There wasn't a single weakling among Rias's peerage.
Even those who were currently weaker would undoubtedly become powerhouses in the future. Other Devils would be envious.
BAAAAAMMM!!!
Issei blocked Mika's punch, his gauntlet cracking under the force of the impact.
But he didn't seem fazed.
Despite his bruised and battered face, he was grinning.
It was three days since their last duel, and time for another round.
This time, Mika hadn't increased his strength, but Issei's performance had improved.
He could withstand Mika's attacks for slightly longer, and his Balance Breaker duration had increased by a couple of seconds.
This progress delighted him and pleased Mika.
As their duel concluded, Akeno, Yuuto, and Koneko gathered around them, analyzing their performance, a habit they had developed to enhance their combat awareness. Of course, such analysis was useless for Issei; he learned through experience, through pain.
While Asia healed Issei's injuries, the others discussed the battle.
Just then, Rias arrived, having used a magic circle to teleport directly to the training grounds.
"If Akeno hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known you were all here! Having a get-together without me? Are you trying to exclude me?" she said, feigning annoyance, hands on her hips.
However, they all knew her too well to be fooled by her act.
Mika and Akeno simply ignored her, continuing their discussion.
Rias, frustrated, stormed over to them, and laughter filled the air.
"Welcome back, Buchou!" they said in unison.
....
With Rias's return, they enjoyed their time at the Gremory villa, relaxing and training.
A week later, they returned to Kuoh Town, the magic circle depositing them back in the Occult Research Club room just as dusk began to settle.
They bid each other farewell and headed home.
"That was a fun week," Mika mused as he entered his apartment.
But his nostalgic mood quickly faded as he refocused on the task at hand.
He sat on the sofa, staring blankly at the television, contemplating his next move.
"Now that Riser is dealt with—my next target should be Kokabiel," he murmured, recalling the timeline of the original story.
Although his actions had caused several deviations, he doubted Kokabiel's plans would be affected.
After all, the Kokabiel incident stemmed from his desire to reignite the war between the Three Factions.
Their ancient conflict had taken a heavy toll on all sides, and in recent years, while skirmishes continued, the level of violence had decreased significantly.
The leaders of all three factions were now considering a peace treaty.
However, not everyone desired peace. Kokabiel, one of the Fallen Angel Cadres, was among those who wanted the war to continue.
He planned to use the Holy Swords to force the Three Factions into a full-scale conflict, dragging even those who desired peace into the fray.
Mika despised such warmongers, who cared nothing for the lives lost in their pursuit of power.
He doubted his actions would influence someone like Kokabiel.
Therefore, he anticipated Kokabiel's plan would proceed as scheduled.
And when it did, it would be Mika's chance to act, to achieve the great feat he needed to level up.
"Kokabiel, a Fallen Angel Cadre whose power rivals that of a god—To defeat him, I'll need to use everything I've got."
"It seems I'll finally have a real fight," he thought with a grin.
…
Feeling a pang of hunger, Mika headed towards the kitchen.
He still needed to eat, though he suspected that even if he reached a level where food was no longer necessary, he wouldn't abandon the pleasure of a good meal.
After all, what was life without food?
Just then, his doorbell rang.
"Who could that be?" Without activating any of his sensory abilities, he walked to the door and opened it.
It was Rias...
"Buchou? What brings you here?" he asked, surprised.
She smiled. "Starting tonight, I'm living here."
