Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 492: Reverse Scale Memory I

--

The Wise Dragon Clan's Chancellor held on to the reverse heart scale, staring at it as if reluctant to use it.

But that didn't last long; he clenched his claws, and with a low hum, he began chanting the spell that unraveled the contents of the scale.

Whoosh!!!

A strong fluctuation of energy pulsed within the room, permeating to each wall. The audience felt the atmosphere shifting and their environment changing.

Colors flushed, dissipating into nothingness. It's as if the world was suddenly stripped of all life and meaning, leaving only outlines and shapes. It's as if the surrounding environment turned into an uncolored page of a children's book, only it's not child friendly.

"...and last but not least...it's been fun, you guys."

A voice broke them out of their reverie. This was spoken using the common language of the alliance, which meant that it's coming from one of theirs.

Without a doubt, these were the last words spoken by the deceased Young Dragon Patriarch. They are now watching as things unfold in his point of view. This memory will reveal the mysteries of his choice to remain behind and his eventual death.

Everybody watched and saw how the Young Dragon Patriarch sent his comrades away, practically shoving them to the portal. The unwilling roar of his comrades, the same one that echoed throughout the entire camp that day, seeped through the void as well, allowing the young patriarch to hear it.

Nobody could see what kind of expression he's wearing, but they could tell that he's just as heartbroken as they are that it has to end this way.

However, it is also clear that the Young Dragon Patriarch was just as determined to save his comrades even at the cost of his own life. This was evident by his unhesitating gait as he sealed the entrance to the void.

Mind you, this was no easy feat. Even as the most promising star of the Dragon Clan, sealing something like this was way beyond his current capabilities. This only worked because the Young Patriarch used his longevity to amplify the seal.

The audience watched as a majestic seal bearing the crest of the Wise Dragons appeared before the entrance, firmly sealing it shut, preventing anyone or anybody from passing in either side.

They then heard the Young Patriarch wheezing after creating the seal; they could feel his weakness and saw him take a knee to catch a breath.

OoouuUuuuUuuu!!

The audience winced as soon as they heard the sound. Cedric himself couldn't help but take a deep breath.

There was no mistaking that sound. It obviously came from a void creature. However, everybody could also tell that whatever this creature was, it was something truly and utterly dangerous. Their instincts told them so.

'Intruder!'

That's what it said, and it's what Cedric jotted down on his notes. He also didn't miss the fury and anger contained in the delivery of the word.

Unlike Cedric, though, the Young Dragon Patriarch doesn't understand the language of the void. But he's lived long enough to know when a threat announces itself.

The young patriarch stood up before turning around. That's when the appearance of the dangerous threat became visible to everybody.

It was a monstrosity of overwhelming proportions. A giant mass of slimy and tar-like mass with hundreds of eyes and mouths all over its body. It also has hundreds, if not thousands, of tentacles. And best believe that each of those tentacles either has barbs or eyes and mouths as well.

The monstrosity was easily hundreds of meters in height. The kind that could be seen even from miles away. But this also caused the audience, especially the paragons who ventured to the void at the same time as the young dragon patriarch, to be confused, because if this thing was truly this big, they should've seen it too, but they didn't.

The mere sight of the creature made everybody feel a strong sense of disgust and repulsion, stemming from the very depths of their being. It's a subconscious response, one that is innate to all creatures born in the Primordial Chaos.

Actually, the visuals of the creature itself only amount to 30% of its horror factor. The rest of it stems from the 'unknown' factor behind its existence and the eeriness it brought. There's also a bonus for its nonsensical movements, which don't make sense at all.

"If I hadn't condensed my Vision of Wisdom, I wouldn't have seen you either."

The declaration of the Young Dragon Patriarch cut through the confusion of the crowd. With this, most of them finally understood how a creature of this size managed to evade their sights.

The Vision of Wisdom is a unique trait of the Wise Dragon Clan. It allowed them to decipher raw knowledge as it is, transcending its physical or spiritual form, making it possible for them to view its actual origin. Through this vision, all unnecessary points were discarded, which also extends to any fallacies and distractions.

OoOooOoUuuuuU!!

The harrowing sound that the void creature created shook the room. It even caused primal fear to swell from the depths of some of the audience's bodies.

Cedric winced again, pricked at the sharpness and power of the language. Still, he managed to translate it perfectly, and it said:

"You don't belong here," Cedric muttered subconsciously as he jotted down the translation to his notes, unaware that some people heard him loud and clear.

OoUuuUuuuUuuu!

"But since you're here, forget about leaving."

uuuOooooOouuu!

"Mother craves your flesh and soul."

OooOooOuuuuu!

"You'd be an excellent nourishment to my liege." Cedric frowned as he muttered this. He certainly didn't like the implications of this.

"I heard that a junior with an impressive All Speak appeared in the camp recently." The Young Dragon Patriarch's voice resounded within the room. "If my predictions are correct, then you should be watching this memory as well."

"Sadly, I can only guess faint hints of its intents. Nevertheless, I'll try my best to make it talk. Don't hold back, kid. Something tells me that this thing will reveal something really important about the void, so...here I go!"

They all watched as the perspective shifted. A resounding roar echoed within the room, coming from the Young Dragon Patriarch's throat. The shift in perspective meant that he reverted to his True Dragon Form, becoming a titanic entity spanning for miles and easily dwarfing the void creature.

Cedric felt conflicted as he watched this transformation. He wasn't surprised that the young patriarch accurately predicted his participation in this memory viewing; it also wasn't surprising that he knew that somehow he'd be able to translate the words of the void creature since he wasn't the only one who knew of Cedric's abilities.

The recognition and acknowledgement of his abilities, however, both flattered and pressured Cedric. And now, it's coming from all sides because everybody here already recognizes him.

It was then that he felt a pat on his back. It came from Chief Blackwood. It's a silent support, which was more than enough for Cedric.

Pssh! Fwoosh!!!

Bright red and orange, packed with terrifying heat, billowed just beneath the perspective of what they're watching. It was no doubt coming from the maws of the young dragon patriarch.

Shortly after, a stream of fire torched the surrounding area, flooding everything within a ten-mile radius into a sea of flames.

Screech!!

The void creature let out a sharp screech of pain. Its massive body wriggled and flicked in and out of existence, as if it was glitching. It then sent out its barbed, eyed, and mouthed tentacles to the young patriarch, and the dragon responded by casting spells to deal with it.

The battle went on and accelerated to the point where most of the audience could hardly keep up. Cedric himself has given up trying to follow their movement because it's too fast, even for his eyes.

They watched as the Young Dragon Patriarch unleashed world-ending blows, one after the other. Only for the strange void creature to shake it off like they were nothing.

It would seem that the creature was invincible, but that's not really it. It's just that its unique constitution is allowing it to shrug off the blows of the young patriarch.

"Hmm, I get it now." The young patriarch's voice echoed in the room.

Next, they watched as he roared and summoned a unique spell that easily pierced the body of the creature.

Screech!!!

And so, for the first time since the start of this battle, the creature was injured. It bled tar, staining the bleak and colorless void with black ink. All of its eyes and mouth moved erratically, and its behavior was showing signs of agitation.

OOOOoooooUuUuUU!!

"I'm hurt. Is this pain? So, Mother's words are true then? Living beings are plagues to the silence."

OoouuuuuOooooOu!

"Oh, Mother. I can hear you. I hear you craving this living being's flesh and soul. Worry not; I will bring it back."

OooUuOooooUu!

"She must feed. She must be fed. So that she may give birth to my liege, our prince, our savior."

OooUuuOooUu!

"I will bring you back. Because if I brought you back, I will be rewarded by Mother. I will become the loyal guard of the Prince."

OooUuuuOoooooo!

"I will follow him as he swallows the Primordial Chaos and plunge everything to its origin, the Eternal Silence."
