Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 636: Heist

--

The brain of a Space Whale was obviously protected by its skull.

A Space Whale's bones were considered treasures too. They boast incredible toughness and durability. Furthermore, it contains regenerative properties, meaning that any loss to its durability will naturally be replenished over time, and it can be accelerated with supplementary treasures.

But the value of these bones didn't end there. As a primordial creature beloved by creation, these bones contained law diagrams of the natural concept of the law aptitude of the space whale.

So, Cedric wasn't surprised to sense the dense elements of Water, Life, Space, and Time Laws inside the Space Whale's body. This was because its bones and its flesh all had concept diagrams. If he could harvest these, he could meditate on them later and gain surprising amounts of insights.

Of course, that's under the assumption that he could gather them later. Sadly, he doesn't have any storage large enough to put the entire carcass of the space whale in; otherwise, he wouldn't have gone through all this trouble.

The wound on the Space Whale's head, which Cedric used as an entrance, was large and deep. The skull bone of the Space Whale was at least a thousand miles thick, yet this wound penetrated deeper than he initially expected. In fact, he could already see his prize from here.

Traversing that thousand-mile distance wasn't a problem for Cedric, especially with the Space Whale dead. It wasn't long before he found himself standing in front of its brain.

The Space Whale's brain was unlike what anyone would expect. It looked like a large vat of nebulous slime shaped into a perfect sphere. It radiated with a mystical glow of black and silver. It's like a concentrated whale oil, in comparison.

Aside from bones, it is also protected by layers of tough muscle and tendon, forming a cocoon around it. And even though he hadn't truly tried it yet, Cedric could already tell that these pieces of flesh were tough.

Cedric stared at the brain and pondered...

Despite the whale being undoubtedly dead, this brain still showed a surprising level of vitality. Additionally, Cedric could also hear some mystical rhymes echoing here, which was another indication of how rich the concept of law present here was.

Knowing that he doesn't have much time, Cedric made his move.

With surgical precision, he harvested the brain of the Space Whale, carving it out without causing it to turn unstable. He didn't just take the brain; he also took the flesh cocoon around it, making sure that it's still protected.

His swords worked their magic under his command, severing connective tissues and nerve endings to release the brain. It took him ten tense minutes of doing so before he was able to do it.

With the brain released, Cedric stored it away, not in Cade's storage, but in his Inner World instead, since it's safer there.

He could've left after this. After all, getting the intact brain of the Space Whale was a great harvest already, considering that he barely had to do anything.

But since he was already here, Cedric thought that he might as well try for the other valuable parts before the competition arrived.

The Space Whale's heart, marrow, and lungs were all valuable too. Not as much as its brain, but not that far either. Actually, its reproductive organ was also valuable. Perhaps even more so than others, but Cedric really doesn't have any use for it, and he knew that taking that out would require more skill and time, things that he doesn't have much of to begin with, so he could only leave it behind.

Cedric went for the heart first, but he was harvesting marrows along the way. After that, he continued to its lungs.

The deeper he went, the less time he had. He could already feel the competition catching up. Fortunately, he was a step ahead of them, or else it'll never be his turn for these.

And just as he was done taking out the lungs, a gaping hole appeared nearby. Cedric quickly slipped into the cracks of space and hid his presence. From there, he saw several strange and feral creatures eating their way into the whale's flesh; some were already gnawing at its bones.

Cedric left them to it silently. Their focus wasn't on him; they probably never saw him anyway, enabling him to slip away from them without any mishaps.

He left through the hole they used to get in, which ended up being somewhere on the belly of the space whale.

Once he was out, he remained cautious. He continued traversing the gaps between spaces to hide his presence because there were more groups of strange creatures feasting upon the corpse of the space whale.

He managed to pass them unseen while being able to observe their behavior. Actually, he too was surprised, because he didn't expect there to be so many strange creatures around.

Cedric hasn't seen at least 50% of the creatures that appeared here, and he has been traveling the death zone for a while now. This shows that the hidden means of some of these strange creatures were still beyond him and that this death zone remains as dangerous as before.

That said, his harvest wasn't bad. He was the biggest winner here, no doubt. Not only did he get the most valuable treasure of the beast, which is its brain, but he also got its heart, more marrow than he knew what to do with, and its lungs.

Cedric was more than happy with his harvest.

But as he slowly made his way back to his temporary base, he stumbled upon a conflict.

There was a group of strange creatures in front of him engaged in a battle for survival.

Cedric remained hidden but also observed the situation closely.

'Oh, they're fighting over the eyes.'

Somehow, one of these strange creatures harvested both of the space whale's eyes. It must've thought about taking it back to its lair, but it was either followed or ambushed by other strange creatures, so a fight ensued.

Cedric already knew who had eyes; whether it's the same one who plucked it out or not doesn't really matter. He's more concerned about the outcome of this fight.

He continued watching, fascinated by the methods of the strange creatures.

The battle was fierce and deadly. Everybody seems to be intent on tearing each other apart. Yet from his observations, it's clear that the current holder of the eyes was a cut above the rest.

This creature looked like an octopus with a large singular eye. Its tentacles had overlapping scales that seemed to be razor sharp too. It was extremely flexible, able to slip through the smallest gaps. It's also very sinister and opportunistic when it attacks.

Its tentacles should have a nerve-paralyzing toxin. It might also have a flesh-dissolving poison too, from what Cedric has observed so far. Yet the scariest thing about this creature was its large, singular eye.

That eye can fire a disintegrating beam that has annihilative properties. The laser was dense and fast too. Moreover, it could be manipulated by the creature to change into tricky angles, like it's performing at a circus.

Cedric had seen this creature reducing its foes into space dust using this, and it wasn't shy about using it either.

Two of its smaller tentacles were holding on to the eyes protectively, tucked under its fleshy body. They weren't really hidden properly since other strange creatures could see them too, but this one-eyed octopus was truly formidable.

Time passed, and eventually, it was the only one left standing. The rest of the strange creatures have already fled from the scene, died, or lost interest.

The beast let out a pleased hum, probably celebrating its victory. But before it could feel too happy and return to its lair, a surprising ambush occurred.

Chak!

The creature stilled, its body stiffening as if shot by a taser.

A sword appeared and stabbed its eye, piercing its brain as well. Its thoughts were rapidly fading away, yet even at its last moments, it failed to understand what happened.

Well, Cedric happened.

Because how can I let go of this chance? It was the perfect time and place. He struck when the creature thought that it had won and lowered its guard, allowing him to easily swoop in and profit.

As the creature fell, Cedric appeared nearby and grabbed the shrunken eyes of the whale, which quickly reverted to its original size now that the tentacle monster was dead.

With a flick of his sleeves, these two were taken into his Inner World.

Cedric's actions were quick and decisive. He was in and out within seconds, barely leaving a trace behind.

As soon as he got the eyes, he slipped back into the fabrics of space and continued on his way back to his temporary base. His second clone was also around to escort the third, making sure that there were no other surprises on their way back.

There wasn't, fortunately. Cedric's clones returned safely. And once they were back in their temporary base, they immediately sealed it off for security. They had to be careful, or else others could trace them here.

Once they ensured that the base was completely sealed off, it was time to benefit from the harvest.
