Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi

Chapter 408: Got a New Job (3)

The excitement from the new experience had them so enthused that, even though it was still early for lunch, everyone crowded into the kitchen to get busy, washing the Translation Mushrooms, boiling water, and blanching them for a salad.

A group of people who rarely cooked suddenly took to the kitchen, and even making a simple salad had them in chaos.

They finally managed to finish a large bowl and brought it to the table, just in time for the cafeteria to start serving.

Ye Nai drove her lemon-yellow car, taking two students to the cafeteria to buy food.

She ordered a bit of everything from the self-serve and stir-fry sections, packaged them up, and brought them back to Academician Shen's home, where they were still at the temperature when initially packed.

Lunch was bought for everyone, but that bowl of Translation Mushrooms was exclusively for the four academicians, and the others returned to their dorms to fix their own portions.

The academicians had an astonishing appetite, finishing not only more than half a bowl of rice but also the dishes, and even polished off the large bowl of Translation Mushrooms salad.

After the meal, everyone tidied the table, threw out the trash, and once the cleaning was done, gathered around the dining table again.

Each of the four academicians opened a handwritten letter and, in less than ten seconds, understood the once incomprehensible strange characters, translating them fluently for the others.

"Oh my gosh, Translation Mushrooms are amazing!"

The others exclaimed excitedly.

The academicians were equally thrilled.

"It's that simple, and I've already learned an alien language!"

"This translation effect is truly miraculous."

"No wonder we got the task first; this must be extensively cultivated. Later, when our main force enters the Otherworld, communicating with the locals will depend on this."

"Does the Translation Mushroom have a timeframe for effectiveness? Like how long it stays effective after a meal before one can't understand again?"

"I don't know if there's a timeframe; I only know that if you encounter unreadable text, just keep eating the Translation Mushrooms. Once you've understood specialized words and phrases, they stay with you, like having learned the language, limited only by vocabulary for understanding advanced words." Ye Nai shrugged as she spoke.

"Ah, I get it, just increase our reading volume." Academicians grasped it instantly, as expected.

"Right, the vocabulary needed for daily communication can be accumulated through these handwritten letters and children's storybooks, while more advanced vocabulary needs to be gathered from those history, geography, religion, economy, and military books."

"Do you also have such advanced books?"

"Of course I do."

Ye Nai said, placing a few beautifully bound hardcover advanced books on the table, including the categories she mentioned like history, geography, and also two wizarding books.

The academicians, like drawing lots, closed their eyes and picked a book each, and just by glancing at the first page, they felt dizzy.

"No way, I can't understand a single word, definitely advanced books."

"Did the Translation Mushrooms we just ate have no effect?"

"It's not useless; accumulating vocabulary is like leveling up. You haven't mastered the vocabulary from the handwritten letters and jump straight to advanced books; it's no wonder you're overwhelmed." Ye Nai explained with a smile.

"Alright, our task for this afternoon is to quickly accumulate vocabulary so we can reach a level of daily communication."

"Don't take the Translation Mushrooms back to your dorm; the kitchen is empty now, so go ahead and make some more to eat."

"The cafeteria hasn't closed yet, quickly go buy more food, and when making the Translation Mushroom salad, use less salt and soy sauce; it was too salty."

With a burst of laughter, everyone went about their tasks again.

Ye Nai took out her lemon car keys but decided against running errands herself.

"You guys get to work; I'm going to feed the captives."

After saying that, she opened a Transmission Port with her bare hands and disappeared inside in front of everyone.

The onlookers were jaw-dropped.

"Wow, this is too awesome! She just walked through so gracefully!"

"Did you notice how effortlessly she opened the Transmission Port, and as soon as she walked in, it closed right behind her, like an extension of her will?"

"She's a god! Truly a god!"

"Only such a god could end the war!"

"Yes! This damn war can finally end!"

The realization hit, and everyone cheered excitedly.

Fifty years, the enemy invasion has been ongoing for a full fifty years, and now, there is finally hope to fully end this prolonged war.

Ye Nai finished feeding the captives in East Ridge Secret Realm, then made an appearance in Beigen Village in the Otherworld, delivering some necessities like oil, salt, and sugar to the villagers, urging them to be patient.

The vast time difference between the worlds can sometimes be frustrating; a few days' procedures in Dahua Country translate to several months in the Otherworld.

So, it's necessary to pop over daily to reassure the villagers that good things are genuinely happening, even though shuttling between worlds takes time.

Since the villagers are illiterate and don't understand what time difference means, it's explained simply.

When Ye Nai returned, she found everyone at the table, eating the Translation Mushrooms salad with the just-purchased cafeteria flatbread snacks.

The four academicians sat around the coffee table in the living room, reading the handwritten letters Ye Nai had previously brought out, one by one.

"Wow, you're back already?"

After showing off her teleportation skill, these Ph.D. students in their early thirties and on-duty military security personnel have stopped calling her by name, instead, they all address her as "Goddess," looking at her with respect.

Ye Nai hurriedly refused the title.

"Please don't, just call me by my name, don't use titles like goddess or elder. Remember, my public identity is as a Junior Archivist and the Space Storage Awakened, if you get used to it, you might slip up to outsiders."

"Understood!"

The young students and security personnel immediately mimed zipping their lips.

"But calling you by your name seems disrespectful, how about Sister Ye, acknowledging your skills by adding 'Sister'?"

"Alright, Sister Ye then."

Ye Nai nodded with a mix of amusement and exasperation.

"Pace yourselves, you just had lunch, don't overeat; if you get tired of eating, rest and read some letters. I have more here."

Ye Nai said, placing a large wooden crate on the floor and opening it, revealing it to be full of handwritten letters in envelopes.

"These are everyday letters exchanged among the Nobles; the more advanced ones above are official documents. We'll slowly build our vocabulary."

"Indeed, these letters mention daily matters like birth rates in the territory, farm yields, hunting spoils, business profits, political struggles, and issues of owing money, coming up with excuses to wage war and default on debts."
