Chapter 10: Bait

A convoy of vehicles moved along the wide highway. Many of the escorts were armed and ready to act at any sign of threat. Leading the way were two armored vehicles, followed closely by a heavily fortified truck capable of withstanding even a direct hit from a tank. Bringing up the rear was another vehicle.

The driver of the lead vehicle noticed a man standing right in the middle of the road.

Magneto stood on the asphalt, staring at the convoy with cold determination. A fire of rage burned in his eyes these were the people who, in his view, had brutally mistreated his brothers and sisters, locking them in cages and stripping them of their freedom. But he was no longer going to stand by and watch. Not now. It was time to take matters into his own hands and show what he was capable of.

Raising his hand, Magneto clenched the air into a fist, and the last vehicle in the convoy instantly turned into a heap of twisted metal, obliterating everyone inside. Spreading his arms wide, he positioned his palms opposite each other and then sharply brought them together. The armored vehicles merged into one giant metal ball. With a slight wave of his hand, he flung the structure aside.

His gaze fell on the driver of the truck, who was panicking, trying to figure out what to do next. Magneto didn't give him time to think. A second later, the truck exploded, scattering debris in all directions. The remaining trailer slid forward, crashing into the remnants of the road, and came to a halt right in front of Magneto.

With calm steps, Magneto walked around the truck, heading toward its rear. With a single motion of his hand, he tore off a sheet of armor 30 centimeters thick as if it were paper. From the darkness, two red eyes filled with fury stared back at him.

"Juggernaut, it's time to show your strength," Magneto said.

The chains restraining the giant crashed to the ground, freeing his powerful limbs. The trailer creaked, barely able to withstand the weight and force of Juggernaut as he slowly began to emerge. His massive figure, illuminated by the rays of the sun, looked imposing and fearsome.

"Juggernaut, destroy them all"

"Excellent," Magneto added, watching as the giant prepared for action. "But there are still a few places ahead where your power will be needed."

Magneto's body rose into the air, surrounded by metal debris that followed him like obedient satellites. Juggernaut rose into the air as well and followed, led by the master of magnetism.

Unknown location

"People think they can persecute us without consequence, conduct their experiments. Do they expect us to meekly accept the role of lab rats?" Magneto's voice was firm, filled with contempt. "We are the superior race, the next stage of human evolution. We stand above them; they are nothing compared to us. It's time to stop hiding and show the world who the true masters of this planet are."

He paused, looking around at his comrades. His eyes burned with determination, and his voice grew louder, filling the room with confidence.

"Charles has become too soft. He's gotten caught up in politics, in fairy tales about a peaceful future and coexistence. But it's all a lie. The war has been going on for a long time; he just refuses to see it. Well, for now, the humans are winning. But it's time to strike back."

Magneto turned to his longtime ally, Raven.

"Mystique, have you obtained the information about the prison locations?" he asked, with hope and confidence in her abilities.

Raven, known as Mystique, was not just his comrade-in-arms but also the best scout among the mutants. Her ability to take on any form made her indispensable in their struggle. She could infiltrate the most secure places and extract any information.

"Yes," Mystique replied calmly, unfolding a map. "They're rounding up mutants in every city, then transporting them to these locations. They're held there until they're sent to the main base. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to determine the location of the main base yet, but they have many containment points."

She pointed to several red marks on the map, each representing one of the prisons.

Magneto studied the map carefully, his face stern.

"That's enough to start," he said, his voice menacing. "We will free our brothers and sisters. And let the humans understand that their time is running out."

"Gather everyone. It's time to free our brothers and sisters. This will be the beginning of our dominion," he declared, clenching my fist. I envisioned a future where we could hold our heads high and cast off our chains.

POV Escanor

Another sparring session with the X-Men had begun. Once again, they tried to overpower me, but it was futile. With each passing day, I felt the power of the sun nourishing me more and more, amplifying my strength. However, I knew this was far from my limit.

Power level: 20,000.

I calmly took the laser beam Cyclops fired at me. It hit me square in the chest, but all I felt was a slight warmth.

"Is that all you've got?" I asked with a slight smirk, looking down at him.

"Shut up!" Cyclops shouted, his face twisted in anger.

"Pathetic." I smiled faintly and turned to the others.

Suddenly, Kitty Pryde emerged from the ground right at my feet, trying to catch me off guard. Her hands clamped around my ankles, dragging me into the metal floor.

"Kitty, victory," she said, popping up nearby with a cheerful smile, hands on her hips.

"Hm... unlikely." I calmly broke free from her trap, tearing through the metal as if it were nothing.

But Kitty vanished into the floor again, her figure dissolving before I could catch her.

Suddenly, the room was filled with a bright red light.

"X-Men, we're urgently needed!" Professor Xavier's voice echoed in every corner of the training room. His tone was more serious than ever.

"To the X-Jet, now," Wolverine growled, heading toward the plane.

I wasn't sure what to do. Was I part of their team or not? Did this concern me?

"What are you standing around for, Escanor? You're with us," Wolverine snapped, giving me a stern look.

"Better not lose your spot, since I'm here," I replied, effortlessly moving ahead of him in a single motion.

"You little show-off..." he growled, chasing after me.

"Hey, wait up!" Cyclops chimed in, following our lead and running after us.

"Boys..." Jean Grey sighed, shaking her head as she watched us.

The others just chuckled, not staying idle either.

The team quickly gathered aboard the X-Jet. Everyone was already in their suits, ready for the mission. I hadn't expected to find myself in a situation like this flying in a high-tech plane surrounded by people with superpowers. Maybe it wasn't so bad after all. During my time at the school, I'd gotten to know them a little. Each of them had unique abilities and personalities. My desire to leave this place as soon as possible began to fade.

Maybe things could still change.

The X-Jet raced through the sky at breakneck speed, undetectable by radar. The technology these people possessed clearly surpassed anything I'd seen before.

In just a few minutes, we covered hundreds of kilometers, and the plane began to slow down.

"The Brotherhood of Mutants, led by Magneto, has attacked an unknown organization. Our mission is to stop the bloodshed and help the people. No lethal attacks," Wolverine said, throwing a stern glance in my direction.

"Can't promise anything," I replied with a slight smirk.

"Watch it, kid," he growled back.

The X-Jet slowed, and the rear hatch began to open.

"Follow me, Escanor," Wolverine commanded, leaping out of the plane, which was still high in the sky.

"Magneto can control metal, so we can't let him take control of our plane. It's better to keep it as far away as possible," Jean explained, answering my unspoken question.

"Got it."

I followed Wolverine.

For the first time in my life, I was jumping from such a height. The wind whipped against my body as the ground rushed up to meet me. Below, I saw burning buildings in the middle of a forest. A battle was raging there. Everything around was destroyed, as if a powerful explosion had occurred.

Despite my larger mass, Wolverine and I landed almost simultaneously, creating two deep craters. One of the towers, equipped with an automatic turret, detected us, and a red warning light instantly flared up. Bullets struck my body without causing any harm, while Wolverine took cover behind me, using me as a shield.

With a single step, my fist smashed into the concrete wall, reducing it to a pile of rubble. The shockwave trembled through everything, sending the remaining debris crashing to the ground.

"Escanor, no lethal force," Wolverine reminded me in a stern tone.

"You're not the one to talk. You've cut people down worse than I ever have," I replied with a smirk. I had already heard plenty of stories about his past, where he acted like a relentless berserker. But now, he was playing the role of a mentor, trying to restrain himself and set an example for the younger generation.

"We'll discuss this with the professor later," Wolverine muttered. Then, switching to his earpiece, he ordered, "Snake, drop the rest of the team. The area is clear."

Through the light haze, the rest of the X-Men began to appear.

"Jean, give us the situation," Wolverine requested.

"This is a prison holding dangerous criminals, including mutants. The guards are currently engaged in fights with the inmates," Jean responded.

"Our job is to prevent the prisoners from escaping and detain them. Many of them have committed brutal and merciless crimes. We only engage the guards if they attack us first but no lethal measures," Logan stated, casting me another strict glance.

As we moved inside, I decided to play the role of a distraction. If they focused their fire on me, it would be easier for my allies to neutralize the threats.

The moment I stepped onto prison grounds, a powerful explosion erupted. A jet of flames burst from the windows, like a volcanic eruption. Emerging from the fiery chaos was a man more of a pyromaniac than anything else. He laughed in delirious excitement, setting everything around him ablaze.

Noticing me, he unleashed a torrent of fire. But what could such a pathetic flame do to me? Calmly stepping through the waves of fire, I stood before him as if nothing had happened.

"Is this supposed to be fire?" I smirked. "Let me show you what real fire looks like."

A miniature sun ignited at my fingertip. The heat around us intensified instantly, the concrete beneath me beginning to melt.

"What the hell?!" the fire-wielding mutant cursed, his face twisting in horror. "Why can't I control this?!"

"You're nothing but an insect," I replied, lightly touching him with my finger and sending him into unconsciousness.

"That's Pyro. He's from the Brotherhood of Mutants," Jean's voice echoed in my mind. She was acting as our coordinator, warning us about enemies and helping us avoid danger telepathically.

More Brotherhood mutants began to emerge behind Pyro. From around the corner stepped a massive man though, more accurately, incredibly obese. His enormous body seemed almost disproportionate. Beside him moved another mutant with a long, snake-like tongue.

"Sabretooth," Wolverine growled, his eyes locking onto the approaching mutant with pure hostility. It seemed they had a long history.

"Xavier's subordinates… X-Men… Why are you here?" came the deep, commanding voice of Magneto, who hovered in the air above us.

"Erik, why did you attack this prison? What's your goal?" Ororo asked, rising into the air to meet him at eye level.

"Our brothers are being kept like animals. Do you think we'll just stand by and accept it? No. I only seek to free them from the fear of their own powers, from injustice, from chains," Magneto replied, gesturing toward the gathering crowd of prisoners.

"That's not for us to decide," Ororo countered. "We can review their cases and seek justice if they are innocent."

"The time for negotiations is over," Magneto said coldly. "You stand in my way. Either leave, or I will remove you."

Metallic structures around him began to rise into the air, spinning chaotically as if obeying his every thought. The atmosphere grew heavy, foreshadowing the inevitable battle.

"No talking him down. Take care of Blob first, then Magneto. We'll handle the rest," Logan muttered, and without waiting for a response, he lunged forward.

With a sharp metallic sound, his claws extended from his knuckles, gleaming in the sweltering air. At full speed, he crashed into Sabretooth, and their fight erupted like a raging storm. Claws met fangs, sending sparks and droplets of blood flying. Neither held back this was a battle of pure, unfiltered ferocity.

Though Blob and I were the same height, our physiques were vastly different. Let's see what his body can withstand. I took a single step forward, and in an instant, I was right in front of him. Wasting no time, I threw a punch straight into his gut.

My fist struck him, but it felt as though my force was being absorbed. His skin rippled and deformed in waves, only to return to its original shape, like an unbreakable elastic barrier. The hit did nothing.

"Not bad," Blob sneered, narrowing his eyes. With barely a push from the ground, he countered with a strike of his own, landing a powerful blow to my stomach.

I felt the pressure but only took a single step back.

"What the hell are you made of?" he muttered through gritted teeth, shaking the hand he had just used to attack me.

It was time to show him what I was capable of. Clenching my fists, I gathered all my strength and directed it into a single, devastating punch. Blob barely had time to react. My strike landed square on his jaw, launching him hundreds of meters into the air. His silhouette flickered against the sky before vanishing beyond the horizon.

"Escanor, we need your help!" Jean's voice rang out. I turned to see the team locked in battle with the prisoners. Ororo, concealed within storms and lightning, was struggling against Magneto. He deflected her attacks with ease, dodging and blocking as if this were nothing more than a game to him. He wasn't even trying to kill us just toying with us.

"This cannot go unpunished," I thought. I surged forward like an arrow released from a bow, my attack aimed directly at Magneto.

But he noticed me at the last second. The metal debris surrounding him shot toward me, intercepting my blow. Like serpents, they coiled around my body, restraining me before I could reach him.

"A new mutant?" he mused, tilting his head slightly. But before I could answer, he waved his hand, and I felt an immense force hurl me backward, sending me flying.

The metal pressed against my skin began to glow red-hot, melting into searing liquid.

In my hands, a burning sun ignited. I clenched it, channeling all my fury into a single, blinding sphere. Swirls of light engulfed me, the air around us heating to an unbearable degree. The sphere shot forward, incinerating everything in its path.

It streaked toward Magneto, but he merely smirked. With effortless precision, he threw Ororo directly into its trajectory she was still bound in metal.

"Stop your attack," he commanded, his voice calm but firm as he met my gaze.

Rage nearly consumed me, but I held it back. This bastard knew exactly how to manipulate others. My sun dimmed, but the heat remained in the air.

Power level: 80,000.

I felt the space around me tremble under the force of my energy. The air became dry, hot every molecule vibrating with the tension of impending catastrophe. The sun blazed high in the sky. Noon was approaching.
