Chapter 16: Filler: Cosmic Arm Wrestling 1

"Ladies and gentlemen! Tonight, you will witness a spectacle both grand and thrilling!" The booming voice of the Grandmaster echoed across the arena. "Today, we present the ultimate cosmic arm-wrestling championship! And for this special occasion, the dwarves of Nidavellir have crafted a true masterpiece a table strong enough to withstand the power of the Infinity Stones!"

The stadium erupted in cheers. In the center of the arena, illuminated by thousands of lights, a colossal, gleaming table emerged a true work of art. The master craftsmen, the dwarves, had forged it specifically for this event. As they marched onto the field, the ground trembled beneath their heavy steps, as if acknowledging their sheer might. Reaching the center, they placed the table down, and it pulsed with energy, merging seamlessly with the stone foundation.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, let the games begin!" the announcer continued. "For our first match, two veterans, two comrades, and at the same time bitter rivals! In one corner Captain America! And in the other his former brother-in-arms, now his fiercest enemy, the Winter Soldier!"

Spotlights blazed to life, illuminating the two contestants as they stepped forward. One was clad in a pristine uniform, the iconic star on his chest gleaming under the lights, a shield strapped to his arm Steve Rogers. His opponent his metal arm glinting ominously, eyes cold as ice Bucky Barnes.

"What's going on? Where am I?" Steve demanded, looking around in confusion. But as his gaze landed on a familiar face, his eyes widened. "Bucky?"

"Ah, a classic reunion," the Grandmaster chuckled. "But let's not get sentimental. We have a match to play."

"The rules are simple! Three rounds! The one with the most points wins. And the loser…" His voice dropped into an eerie, menacing tone, his grin stretching wider. "…dies."

Steve clenched his jaw.

"I don't know what's happening here, Bucky, but we're getting out of this together."

Bucky's expression darkened, but he remained silent. The two opponents took their places at the glowing table, steeling themselves for the battle ahead.

"Enough talking, Steve. Fight." Bucky placed his vibranium hand on the shimmering surface.

"Don't make me do this, Bucky," Steve replied, his voice firm but tinged with regret.

Before emotions could take hold, the announcer cut in:

"This table has been crafted with the most advanced technology!" he declared, just as a sudden surge of energy coursed through the contestants, forcing agonized screams from both. Any thought of resistance was instantly crushed. "And now… Let the match begin!"

Bucky struck first with inhuman speed, twisting Steve's wrist down in an instant. The first round was his. But in the second round, Steve gritted his teeth, mustering all his strength, and fought back securing victory with his right hand. Back and forth they went, each round pushing them to their limits.

"We have a tie!" the announcer finally declared, pressing a hand to his ear as if listening to some unseen force. "And that means… no winner! What fate shall befall our contestants?"

A deafening chant erupted from the stands:

"Death! Death! Death!"

The crowd's bloodlust grew, their cries shaking the very foundations of the arena.

Then, without warning, a blinding beam of light shot down from above, tearing through the air engulfing both fighters.

The spectators gasped, a mix of exhilaration and terror rippling through them.

The announcer spoke again, as if nothing had happened:

"And now that we're done with the warm-up, we move on to the next match! In one corner Escanor, the child of the sun, the invincible giant! In the other Juggernaut, a true death machine, unstoppable by any force!"

Escanor stepped onto the arena, his footsteps echoing like thunder, his very presence radiating the warmth of the sun. He halted, gazing at his opponent, and without waiting for the battle to begin, confidently declared:

"I have already defeated you once. In this contest, there is no equal to me, for my name… is Escanor."

Juggernaut responded with nothing but a predatory grin, clenching his massive, metal-clad fists, ready to crush anything in his path.

The announcer's voice boomed again:

"Such admirable spirit, gentlemen! Let's get to the battle!"

The crowd roared, eager to witness the clash of titans.

"I will crush you," Juggernaut growled.

In the next instant, their hands met above the table, sending out a shockwave that lifted dust and debris into the air. A loud countdown echoed across the stadium. The moment the count hit zero, the entire arena trembled as a massive explosion of energy erupted signaling the beginning of an intense struggle.

"Is this all the strength you have?" Escanor's voice cut through the tension like a blade, calm and unshaken. He kept one hand behind his back, as if the effort was beneath him.

Juggernaut let out a furious roar, throwing his full weight onto the table. His muscles bulged, and he pressed down with all his might, trying to overpower his opponent. But Escanor didn't even flinch.

"Shut up! I'll grind you into dust!" Juggernaut snarled.

"How dull," Escanor muttered lazily, before effortlessly slamming Juggernaut's hand onto the table.

Juggernaut was sent flying with such force that he crashed into the ground, leaving deep trenches in his wake. The arena trembled once more as the crowd gasped in shock.

"Aaaaargh!" Juggernaut bellowed, forcing himself to his feet, staring at his mangled arm. The metal plating of his armor was twisted and ruined, but it didn't stop him. With fury in his eyes, he raised his other fist, preparing to unleash a devastating strike on Escanor.

But before he could, the announcer's voice cut through the air, louder than even Juggernaut's roar:

"Ah-ah! No rule-breaking! The battle is only permitted at the table!"

In an instant, Juggernaut vanished in a flash of light. The crowd murmured in confusion, but no one dared to protest. The announcer, clearly pleased, continued:

"We have an undisputed winner! Escanor of Earth!"

Ignoring the spectacle behind him, Escanor turned to the audience, raised a hand in victory, and calmly walked away, leaving behind a shattered arena.
