Even Hell’s Affairs Depend on Gold – I Got Fired, but I’ve Acquired an Alchemy Cheat Skill, So I’m Aiming for a Major Life Turnaround

Volume 1 Chapter 34 - The Potion is Sugar Water

We left the house and headed to the real estate agency.

They showed us various rooms, but we couldn’t find one that we liked, so we didn’t decide on anything.

The real estate agent was polite and said he would look for more options for us by the next time we came. We agreed to come back, and I parted ways with Kaede-chan at that spot and went home.

The next day, I transformed into Eleanor-san, drank an invisibility potion, and left the house.

When I found a place with no one around, I deactivated the invisibility and took a taxi to the Ikebukuro branch.

I got in the taxi, and after a while, I could see the Ikebukuro guild. A large crowd of media was waiting in front of the guild.

“Customer, you’re Eleanor Ocean, aren’t you? What will you do?” the taxi driver, who seemed to recognize me, asked.

“Well, that’s to be expected.”

“I don’t want to cause you any trouble. Please drop me off here.”

I figured if we went any further, the taxi would be surrounded.

It would be a nuisance.

“You should call a taxi in advance for your return.”

“I will.”

I paid the driver and got out of the taxi 50 meters from the guild.

Then, the media immediately noticed me and came running.

“Eleanor-san, may I speak with you!?”

“What language were you speaking yesterday?”

“Is it true you’re auctioning a 1000-kilo item bag?”

Annoying.

I ignored all the questions and managed to walk to the front of the guild.

When I reached the guild’s door, I turned around.

“One question per person, please. Go ahead, one by one.”

As I said that, the media people looked at each other.

Then one reporter raised his hand.

“Yes, go ahead.”

I pointed to that person.

“I heard you’re auctioning a 1000-kilo item bag. Which monster dropped it?”

“A slime.”

“Eh? Is that true?”

“It’s true. Yes, next.”

I turned my gaze from the reporter who had asked the question, and another raised his hand.

“Go ahead.”

“What was the word you said yesterday? I heard that people from all countries can understand it.”

“I can’t answer that now. I’ll have to go through the guild at a later date. I’m an adventurer, so I must follow the rules.”

“There are also voices saying that you’re from the Frontier, right?”

The same reporter asked again.

“One question per person. I have work to do.”

“Oh, well, that’s my question.”

Another reporter raised his hand.

“I’m not from the Frontier. Besides, do Frontier people even exist? I think I learned the same thing as you all, but I’ve never met one. Next.”

I continued to answer the questions concisely.

Then, the last person raised their hand.

This person was the beautiful announcer from before.

“Yes, go ahead.”

“Thank you for the other day.”

“No, thank you. You helped me when I was nervous during my first time on TV, and I appreciate it.”

I really do, thank you.

“Can you make an item bag?”

Interesting…

“Heh. That’s an amusing thing to say. If there were someone who could do that, I’d like to meet them. The answer is no. I dropped the item bag from a slime. That’s all. Now, I’ll go to work. Also, I’ll be on break from tomorrow for a while. Farewell.”

I raised my hand, said goodbye, opened the door, and entered the guild.

I said that, but they’ll probably still be swarming around tomorrow.

Probably until the auction is over.

I sighed and went to Kaede-chan.

“Good work,” Kaede-chan bowed.

“Thanks… You’re not causing any trouble to the guild staff, are you? With all the questions?”

“It’s fine. Guild staff come in through the back, and no one can enter the back door. And interviews with guild staff are strictly forbidden. That’s absolute.”

The guild staff know a lot, don’t they?

“As long as everyone’s not bothered, it’s fine. How about the Guild Master?”

“He’s here.”

Kaede-chan led me to the usual reception area and let me in.

We went to Satsuki-san’s room.

◆◇◆

“You seem to have a hard time,” Satsuki-san smiled, sitting across from me on the sofa.

“I knew it would be, but it’s annoying.”

I replied, sipping the coffee that Kaede-chan had brewed for me.

“The publicity was good, though. And I was refreshed to see Mimura’s panic.”

“Is he famous?”

“He’s famous for calling himself an expert without being an adventurer or having been to the Frontier. Also, he’s annoying. I appreciate that he’s studying a lot, but in the end, he doesn’t know anything about the Frontier or adventurers, so he speaks from speculation.”

Yeah, annoying.

“Hmm… I didn’t know that since it was my first time, so I went to greet the performers before recording, but he touched my butt when we parted. Also, he cut me off and said a lot of things. Accused me of stealing, selling fakes, and even called me a monster.”

On the other hand, Tsuchiya, a former adventurer, was polite.

I didn’t like his annoying questions, though.

“That’s the worst. I’ll protest.”

“Please do.”

If I ever go on TV again, I don’t want that to happen.

I’ll make it a non-negotiable appearance.

“So? What was that word? I didn’t hear it either.”

I hadn’t told this person that I could make recovery potions, item bags, appraisal glasses, invisibility potions, and gender transformation potions.

“It’s something called a translation potion. I was drinking it.”

“What’s that? Does it make you speak foreign languages?”

“I thought so too, but it seems a little different. According to the internet, people who understand multiple languages hear it in both Japanese and English.”

It was written that it felt creepy.

Shock!

“I don’t get it. I only speak Japanese.”

“Me neither. That’s why I didn’t notice. Anyway, please announce this. You can sell it if you want. Otherwise, people will treat me like a monster.”

If they call the Golden Witch a real witch…

Even if they call me a witch and then ask if it’s real, it’s still a problem.

“A translation potion, huh… Do you have it?”

Satsuki-san asked, so I took a colorless pet flask from my bag and handed it to her.

Then, Satsuki-san took out her glasses, put them on, and looked at the pet flask.

It must be the appraisal glasses I gave her.

“Hmm… First of all, what’s this material? A plastic bottle?”

“It changes with the container I use to make it. If it’s a glass cup, it becomes a glass flask. If it’s a plastic bottle, it becomes a plastic flask. I made an aluminum flask from a beer can yesterday.”

“Hmm… Please use glass for the ones you supply.”

“I know.”

All the flasks dropped by monsters are made of glass.

Since I’m pretending to have dropped them from slimes, I’m making the ones for sale in 100-yen store cups.

“It’s definitely a translation potion… The effect lasts for 24 hours… It’s tricky.”

It’s not permanent and consumable, so it’s not something you can just drink once.

“It doesn’t seem to sell high, so I stopped. Considering that Kaede-chan said it could be misused in tests and such, it would take time to sell.”

“Indeed, it would take time to review this, and there would be restrictions on its use. It probably won’t sell to the public. It will likely be bought by the government. And government purchases are cheap.”

It’s cheap, huh…

Well, it’s taxpayer money, so they probably can’t buy it high.

“I’ll give you a few, so please announce it with that. If you insist, I’ll sell it.”

“I understand. The head of the headquarters will have a hard time. Serves them right.”

So, it’s thrown to the headquarters.

“Do I need to do anything?”

“Just write a document about where you found the new item. Just write ‘slime’ or something. Nobody will believe you anyway.”

No credibility!

“Should I honestly say I made it?”

“Don’t. There might be those who suspect it, but don’t assert it. You’ll be inundated with requests from various places.”

I might even be kidnapped.

“Scary.”

“What else can you make?”

“For now, that’s about it. Oh, there’s a sleeping potion, but it won’t sell.”

“Drugs won’t sell. Nothing else?”

“Pure water, I guess. But as my level increases, the recipes will increase. So I’m leveling up now.”

I want to level up and make money.

It’s alchemy, so I should be able to make it.

“Report back when your level increases, and you can make more things.”

“I will.”

I want to raise my level and make money soon.

The guild’s auction is a big money-making opportunity.

“Try to level up as soon as you can. It’s good to have more items that sell, and you might get more items that can protect you, like the invisibility potion.”

“True. Then tomorrow, Okita-kun will go on an adventure. How about the auction?”

“Bidding starts next week, and the period is one week. Also, foreign countries will bid this time.”

“Foreign countries? I thought the guild’s auction was only for Japanese people?”

I thought I saw something like that on the internet.

“It’s a 1000-kilo item bag. They gave in to pressure.”

“Shameful.”

Weak.

“Price will go up, so it’s good.”

“Discrimination is not good. I think it’s a very good thing.”

Equality is wonderful!

“That’s why you should stay quiet for a while. And take this.”

Satsuki-san took out a smartphone.

“A smartphone? You’re giving it to me?”

“You should have two, and Okita-kun’s name is not good. I contracted it under my name.”

“Hmm.”

“Oh, the fee will be deducted from the credit card I gave you.”

Of course, the fee is on me.

“Thanks. Kaede-chan, let’s exchange contact information!”

“Okay. Although there’s almost no need to contact each other.”

Well, yes.

I can just talk to Okita-kun.

And to go further, we’ll live together.

I finished exchanging contact information with Kaede-chan and checked the smartphone.

“Oh, Satsuki-san’s is in here too.”

“Of course. Contact me if anything happens. I’ll respond until 9 pm.”

“What about after 9 pm?”

“I’m busy watching video sites.”

Oh, I see.

I’ll figure it out myself.

“Wow! I only have girls’ contact information!”

Playboy… girl!

“It’s just two people. It might increase later, though.”

“I don’t need it to increase. But if this number leaks, it’ll probably ring constantly.”

“I think so.”

I better not exchange it easily, and even if I have time, I better not take out this smartphone too much.

That day, I had a taxi called for me and went home quickly.
