Chapter 26: Chapter 26 - Miyajima Tsubaki (Part One)
As the sun began to rise, the first golden rays of light filtered through the sheer white curtains, casting a warm glow on the face of Ito Yoshito.
His long eyelashes fluttered gently as he stirred from the depths of a chaotic slumber, gradually opening his eyes to the blurred morning light.
"It's time to head to the Miyajima dojo," he thought to himself.
A cool morning breeze carrying the delicate fragrance of flowers brushed against his skin, fully awakening him from the cozy warmth of his bed and infusing him with energy.
Checking the dim morning sky, Ito Yoshito made his way to the train station.
There were only a few passengers on the train, and the pale overhead lights illuminated the empty space, creating a rather eerie atmosphere.
Upon arriving at the street in front of the Miyajima dojo, he spotted two striking figures standing gracefully in the courtyard, seemingly in conversation.
When they caught sight of Ito Yoshito approaching from a distance, they both waved their arms energetically.
He quickened his pace and jogged up to the dojo, greeting Miyajima Sakura and Miyajima Tsubaki.
"Sakura-nee, Tsubaki-san!"
"Yoshito!"
Their enchanting voices chimed in unison, weaving a familiar and affectionate call directed at him.
"Yoshito, you've been discharged from the hospital, and you didn't come to see me!"
A soft and magnetic mature voice emerged from Tsubaki's lips, brimming with mock reproach.
"You've already been to see Mira, and now you decide to visit me!"
Tsubaki complained, her knowledgeable tone laced with a hint of longing.
"Ahaha," Ito Yoshito scratched his head awkwardly, unsure how to respond.
By this time, both Miyajima Tsubaki and Miyajima Sakura had donned their pristine dojo uniforms.
The fitted fabric accentuated their alluring curves, crafting a captivating silhouette.
Tsubaki playfully swept aside a lock of her hair, leaning on her elegantly curved wrist.
Her long, slender eyebrows arched slightly, and her gentle eyes glimmered with a hint of sultriness.
Despite the warm smile gracing her lips, the forlorn expression in her brow seemed heavy enough to drown Ito Yoshito, filling him with an overwhelming pressure.
Feeling desperate, he cast a pleading glance at Miyajima Sakura, who was watching the spectacle with amusement, almost like a wounded little beast in need of rescue.
In an instant, this plea hit the sweet spot, prompting Sakura to step in and prevent Tsubaki from bullying him any further.
With that, Sakura lowered her hand, lightly approached Tsubaki, and playfully wrapped her arms around Tsubaki's delicate waist, gently pulling her toward the dojo.
"Alright, Tsubaki, don't pick on Yoshito. We should start our morning practice."
"Fine," Tsubaki responded, her excitement palpable as she addressed Yoshito, "Let's have a match after practice! It's been ages since I've had a thrilling bout!"
"Okay, Tsubaki-san," Yoshito replied without hesitation, knowing full well her passion for kendo and her impulsive nature.
If he had refused her, Tsubaki, displeased that he had visited Mira's place first, might have lost her temper and tackled him right there in the dojo courtyard.
Following closely behind the two women, Ito Yoshito navigated the pebbled path that led into the Miyajima dojo.
Familiar with the routine, he opened his locker in the changing room and switched into his dojo uniform.
However…
"I think I've grown taller again?"
Observing how the uniform that had once fit him perfectly now strained against his frame, even the collar struggling to hide his delicate collarbone, he sighed in frustration and rubbed his forehead.
"Sigh—guess I'll have to spend money on a new one…"
As Yoshito stepped out of the changing room, both Miyajima Tsubaki and Miyajima Sakura's eyes lit up at the sight of him.
Tsubaki glided next to him and touched his strong arm.
"Yoshito, you've gotten stronger!" she remarked softly, her deep, dark eyes shimmering like a hidden abyss, radiating an enchanting allure.
"The fruit is nearly ripe! I think I need to discuss this with Mira…"
"That means I'll need to buy a new dojo uniform!"
Yoshito sighed helplessly.
"Yoshito, if you can manage to defeat me in our match later, I'll take care of your new uniform!"
Tsubaki said with a playful smile.
"It's a deal, Tsubaki-san," Yoshito said confidently.
When he first started learning, he was just a novice under Tsubaki's guidance.
Later on, during middle school, he became quite skilled and could hold his own against a lenient Tsubaki.
By the time he reached his third year in middle school, Yoshito had rapidly developed,
His physique grew stronger, allowing him to achieve his first victory over Tsubaki when she had underestimated him.
Since then, Tsubaki had often challenged him to matches.
However, after that initial win, he was no longer able to best her against her serious onslaught.
"Alright, it's time for our morning practice," Sakura reminded them from the side.
Morning practice consisted of repetitively performing the fundamental kendo movements, known as suburi, and engaging in what was called "air swinging."
Suburi itself was a rather tedious exercise, but behind the brilliant displays of martial prowess was the accumulation of these painstaking practices.
Exercising alongside these two beautiful women, who kept an eye on one another, Yoshito found a renewed sense of patience and focus, keeping his boredom at bay and ensuring his movements remained sharp and accurate.
After some time, the three of them paused to catch their breath, their sweat-drenched bodies testament to their effort.
"Yoshito, it seems you haven't been slacking off during this past period! Your movements remain as powerful and precise as ever," Tsubaki exclaimed with delight.
Long ago, she had been quite strict with Yoshito, and after he defeated her in their third year of middle school, she seemed to regard him as a peer, raising her expectations even higher.
Now, despite being hospitalized for a month, Yoshito's kendo skills had not diminished, suggesting he had spent considerable time solidifying his practice.
This realization thrilled her, and her yearning only grew...
"Thank you," Yoshito smiled at Tsubaki, the golden sunlight glistening on the droplets of sweat on his forehead, casting a radiant glow.
His bright smile seemed to envelop him in an aura, leaving Tsubaki slightly dazed and her heart racing, urgently craving a fierce battle to quell her rising fervor.
"Sorry, Tsubaki, I can't hold back any longer. I'll be the first to reap the fruits of the Plan! You will surely understand me, right, Tsubaki?"
While Tsubaki's internal monologue ran wild, Sakura approached Yoshito with a towel, gently wiping the perspiration from his forehead, leaning in to whisper.
"Yoshito, after your match with Tsubaki, let's have a bout too!"
"Sure thing, Sakura-nee," he replied.
At this hour, it was still early, with no other students yet present in the dojo, lending an air of spaciousness to the place.
The morning breeze, carrying a coolness, quickly dried the sweat from the three of them.
