Chapter 33: Ominous (3)
After the brief exchange, Fors conjured Leymano's Travels and surveyed the table.
"Everyone, I have here a mystical item. It has a total of 38 pages. Each page can help the user record Beyonder powers they encounter. They will then be able to release it when needed, but it will be slightly weaker than the original power… Each page can be repeatedly recorded. Each record can only be used once… Amongst them, three pages can be used to record demigod level Beyonder powers, but the chances of success are very low. It might not succeed one in ten times…"
Fors simply explained the traits of Leymano's Travels and its negative effects. It lit up the eyes of Audrey and company.
With them no longer being novices in the domain of mysticism or the Beyonder world, it wasn't difficult for them to tell the value of Miss Magician's notebook without her making it explicit to them. At the same time, they viewed it as a demigod-level artifact.
Taking the opportunity when Fors paused, Miss Justice raised her hand slightly and asked, "Miss Magician, how much do you wish to sell it for?"
Audrey believed that her father, Earl Hall, would also be able to recognize the value of Leymano's Travels, so it was certain that she could be reimbursed by him. Therefore, she planned on fully satisfying Fors's requirements.
Emlyn and Derrick were similarly interested in Leymano's Travels, but it was simply interest. They knew that they lacked the ability to provide anything in a fair exchange.
When she heard Miss Justice's question, Fors realized that she had forgotten to mention the most crucial point. She hurriedly added, "No, it's not for purchase. I'm only renting it. When you need it, you can rent it for a short period which will be witnessed by Mr. Fool."
'Rent? You can do that?'
Alger quickly realized the key to the rental transaction and was delighted. He asked, "How much is the rental fee?"
Fors had built up quite a bit of experience during her time in the Tarot Club, so after some consideration, she said, "Each rental basically starts at 300 pounds. Every additional day is an additional 50 pounds. And when returning it, the notebook needs to have two additional pages of Beyonder powers than when it was rented out. If there's only one blank page or no blank pages when it's rented, one just needs to fill up the full book."
Leonard leaned back in his chair. This was affordable with the money he had saved up as a Nighthawk. Moreover, now that he was a Red Glove, his salary had increased. Maybe he could rent it during a mission.
Sharron also thought it would be useful but she lacked money and currently had no need for it.
'In other words, I can borrow it for the next few days? If I have help from this notebook, those two primitive believers won't be able to pose a threat…' Emlyn looked around and turned anxious as he leisurely said, "Can I rent it for today and tomorrow?"
"400 pounds plus two pages of Beyonder powers," Fors directly announced the price.
Emlyn and Fors then discussed the details before completing the transaction.
'I can earn money quickly and also obtain Beyonder powers this way…' Fors suddenly felt that her future was bright as she hurriedly smiled.
"Alright, I'll get Mr. Fool to transfer it to you after the gathering."
After a few trades and exchange of information, Alger turned to look at Little Sun.
"Are you still in the City of Silver?"
"Yes, my recent mission is to acquaint myself with my powers and patrol the surrounding area," Derrick replied honestly.
Alger thought for a moment before saying, "Has that Shepherd Elder not looked for you recently?"
"No." Derrick paused. "The six-member council seems to be busy with the former Chief's mausoleum. As for what it is, I'm not privy to the information."
Alger instructed, "Take note of this matter. To investigate the former Chief's mausoleum at such a critical moment means that it's something important. It might bring you danger."
"Okay!" Derrick nodded strongly. "I'll do my best to figure out the specifics."
Sensing an opportunity at the boy's apparent naivety, the hunter, who had been silent until now, intervened, "What is the City of Silver?"
Hearing the question directed at him, Derrick honestly responded, giving even more information than expected.
"It is located in what you call 'the Forsaken Land of the Gods'," The Sun then proceeded to explain their city's living conditions as he had already told the other Tarot Club members.
Seeing his attempt fruitful, the adventurer seized the chance to get valuable information from the innocent teen and continued his questioning.
After a while, Alger 'rescued' the teenager unknowingly getting scammed and warned him to not tell too much for free, then felt guilty as Derrick looked at him with unconcealed admiration while being unaware that Alger had waited for him to spill information before stopping him. Unfortunately, the Hanged Man hadn't learned anything he didn't already know, and had thus stopped the Sun.
The hunter shrugged, as if his failure didn't affect him.
Experiencing his first Tarot gathering, Anderson watched the Low-Sequence Beyonders interact with a deity as if nothing was wrong, casually asking questions or rudely snapping Him back to attention—all that forming a harmonious picture.
Keeping a smile on his face, Anderson got chills.
The members' behaviors, the sense of dissonance witnessing such blasphemy and a high-level being supposed to be full of divinity tolerating it… His intuition and experience told him: something felt horribly wrong with this gathering.
And it was thanks to his intuition that the Strongest Hunter above the Fog Sea was able to survive until now despite provoking everyone around him.
Sensing the Fool's gaze briefly turn to him, Anderson pretended to be relaxed and participated, adopting a seemingly brazen attitude.
All of this felt so ominous.

"The dog is in a very precarious state. It's going to die again."
The Fool's voice resounded throughout Sefirah Castle, Miss Magician being the only listener.
As usual during the full moon, she had been summoned above the gray fog to escape from Mr. Door's ravings. Hearing the great existence's concerns, Fors, who owed Him her life, offered, "I studied medicine, maybe I can help?"
Although she didn't think she could succeed where a god had failed, maybe she could try.
The Fool considered it for a moment before standing up, seemingly accepting her proposal. Surprised, Fors got up as well and followed after Him.
She watched the Fool's back as the great existence led her deep into Sefirah Castle.
Come to think of it, she didn't think she had ever seen Him standing above the gray fog before. Apart from when they roamed Backlund, He was always sitting at the end of the long bronze table.
It felt new.
Fors looked around, scrutinizing the interior of the palace that she was seeing for the first time. She had never explored the gray fog either.
Then, the Fool stopped, and Fors refocused on her task.
"Where is it?"
Fors stepped forward to examine the animal, leaving the god's shadow to stand next to Him.
In response, the Fool gestured to the side.
"It's here. It's suffering. Do you think you can cure it?"
Fors was silent for a moment.
After a while, she looked toward the Fool, the god's gaze still fixed on the 'creature', before staring at the spot He had pointed to once more.
She hesitated before announcing, "There's nothing here."
"…"
The Fool didn't reply.
Trying her best to conceal her shaking expression, Fors anxiously inquired,
"…Mr. Fool, are you losing control?"
The Fool stood still for a while before raising His gaze.
He shook His head, a bitter smile on His face as He answered His blessed.
"…It's nothing."
In a lower tone, Fors could barely discern the god's next words.
"I guess I was just remembering the past."
It was unknown if He was speaking to her or whispering it to Himself.
Despite the numerous questions that ran through her mind, Fors didn't dare ask anything more after that.
