Exorcist in America

Chapter 453: Chapter 453: Preparing for the Exorcism

Holy water has many uses: it can ward off evil, heal, purify, cleanse, cure diseases, exorcise demons, safeguard homes, dispel evil spells, and break curses.

Like the cross, it is a standard tool for clergy and is usually applied to victims or others.

But few would think to sprinkle holy water around to achieve a calming effect.

According to Bishop York, if you feel a lot of pressure or that the environment is affected by demonic power, you can sprinkle holy water to purify the space.

Father Diego poured it along the path and around the area as he led Duncan and Brother Vorawi into the house.

As soon as they entered, the once silent space suddenly became inexplicably eerie and unnervingly quiet.

No one knew why.

Duncan instinctively huddled closer to Brother Vorawi, looking at this now unfamiliar home with a wary expression.

It's terrifying when someone feels unsafe in a house they've lived in for over twenty years. That's the horror of spirits and demons.

If Bishop York were here, he would find this situation familiar.

This is the natural dark corruption of demons, akin to a passive skill in a game. The demon doesn't need to do anything; its mere presence can erode a person's sanity.

Mild cases lead to madness, while severe ones result in the victim becoming a soulless puppet, a slave to the demon.

Bishop York always first swept away the demon's passive corruption before exorcising it.

Father Diego exhaled, looking at the house that should have been beautifully illuminated by the sunset, and said solemnly, "Vorawi."

Brother Vorawi nodded, stepped forward with the briefcase, and opened it before Father Diego.

Father Diego looked at a nearby candle.

"Holy candles have the power to dispel darkness, bring light, and provide calm, clarity, and peace. Once lit, they can help escape the demon's influence."

Father Diego lacked Bishop York's abilities and didn't have as much holy power, so he had to rely on burning holy candles to remove the demon's mental influence. Otherwise, the failure rate of the exorcism would increase significantly.

Father Diego took out a prepared holy candle and lit it with a lighter.

The moment the candle burned, the atmosphere in the house changed instantly.

Duncan, being an ordinary person, didn't understand what was happening, but he knew that since Father Diego lit the candle, everything had returned to normal.

"This world is really..." he muttered to himself.

He wasn't particularly devout, but seeing this scene made him feel that his lack of true faith was why this retribution had come upon them.

Duncan felt a bit regretful.

But no one knew of his regret. Father Diego's face grew more serious. Holding the burning candle, he took a deep breath and continued toward the stairs.

"Let's keep going."

Duncan pulled himself together and followed quickly, with Brother Vorawi behind him.

The three of them stepped on the wooden stairs, which made dull sounds.

Fortunately, nothing serious happened.

But then, a chilling voice sounded.

"Heh heh heh, what do I smell?"

"Haha! My dear son Duncan brought a priest to kill me!"

The voice was eerie, not like a human's.

Duncan felt a chill rise within him and shrank behind Father Diego, not daring to make a sound.

"Heh heh heh!"

But he looked at Father Diego in front of him, pleading, "Please, Father, save my mother. The one possessing her must be a demon."

Father Diego replied seriously, "I will do my best!"

Ahead of him was a long corridor, at the end of which was a closed door. As a priest, he could feel the evil aura emanating from inside.

Just as Duncan said, the demon he was about to confront was likely not an unknown one, but one with a true name. Such demons are not insignificant; they rank highly even in Hell.

But that didn't shake his resolve. Father Diego, holding the burning candle, walked slowly toward the closed door, as if heading into true darkness.

"Heh heh heh!"

The voice continued to come from within, accompanied by growls like those of a beast.

Listening to these evil sounds, Father Diego slowly approached the door, took a deep breath, and pushed it open.

As his eyes adjusted to the room's layout and the sight of Mrs. Meheriban tied to the bed, a loud roar suddenly erupted.

With a crash, the door he had pushed open suddenly broke and came hurtling toward Father Diego!

"Watch out, Father!"

Father Diego watched, eyes wide open, as a burly figure blocked the incoming door, taking the hit.

With a thud, the door was shattered by Brother Vorawi.

This was the power of collision, but the broken pieces of the door still floated in the air.

"Heh heh heh! A monk?"

With the voice from the bed, the floating wood splinters trembled and shot toward Brother Vorawi, Father Diego, and the bewildered Duncan.

Judging by the speed, it was clear these splinters would be deadly upon impact.

There were so many that even if they didn't cause fatal wounds, they would still create serious injuries.

However, Brother Vorawi had already drawn his sword. With a calm face, he held the sword with both hands, pointing it downward, and thrust it into the floor.

A surge of energy burst from him, colliding with the flying splinters.

With a series of thuds, all the splinters were scattered by this force, shooting back toward their origin and piercing through the room's walls.

In an instant, the previously intact room became tattered.

"Heh heh! Impressive, I commend your strength."

Brother Vorawi's chest heaved as he looked toward the source of the voice.

There lay an old woman with disheveled hair, tied to the bed. Her face, ravaged by demonic corruption, was hideously gaunt, like skin stretched over bone.

Indeed, Mrs. Meheriban now resembled a skeleton, her eyes pitch black and surrounded by dark circles. She looked at them as if they were ants, her entire presence exuding a chilling aura.

Seeing the demon-possessed Mrs. Meheriban, Brother Vorawi pulled his sword from the floor and said calmly, "I don't need your praise."

As a monk of the church, he knew about demons. If a demon found even a small gap in your defenses, it could reach your soul and learn everything about you.

"Heh heh!" Mrs. Meheriban tilted her head at an unnatural angle, smiling at Brother Vorawi.

"Thank you, Vorawi."

At Father Diego's words and the touch on his shoulder, Brother Vorawi stepped aside, allowing his superior to step forward.

Monks generally handle defense and combat, while exorcisms are the priest's responsibility.

In the church, exorcisms are the domain of priests and bishops.

"I believe in you, though you're not ready, Father Diego."

Father Diego wasn't surprised that the demon knew his name.

When a demon possesses someone, it gains control over their soul and memories, knowing more about the person than they know themselves.

"It's not up to you to decide if I'm ready," Father Diego said calmly, looking at Mrs. Meheriban. He watched her extend her black, filthy tongue to lick her lips as he walked to the table and placed the burning holy candle on it.

"Disgusting aura, useless thing," the possessed Mrs. Meheriban hissed at the candle.

"This has no effect on me, Father Diego."

"I don't need it to affect you," Father Diego replied calmly, taking the exorcism kit from Brother Vorawi.

"I only need it to calm my mind."

"Are you afraid of me?" Mrs. Meheriban tilted her head, her black eyes widening slightly, as if finding something amusing.

"Father Diego."

Suddenly, in a crying voice, Mrs. Meheriban pleaded.

"Don't be afraid of me! Save me, Father, please! Save me!"

Her pleading voice was heart-wrenching.

But apart from Duncan, who held his breath and felt his emotions roiling, Father Diego and Brother Vorawi remained unmoved.

Brother Vorawi stayed vigilant, guarding his priest.

Father Diego slowly opened the exorcism kit, placed the Bible on the table, and said seriously.

"Prepare to begin the exorcism."

Brother Vorawi's expression turned solemn. "Yes, Father!"
