Chapter 93: Tai Sui
Chapter 93: Tai Sui
Ji Lingruo felt as though she were in a long, vivid dream—a dream that was not her own.
In the dream, she was Tai Sui—
I am Tai Sui.
But this is not my real name. In the distant recesses of my memory, my mother’s face is blurred, and I can’t recall what she used to call me.
I remember being a child, riding on my father’s shoulders, clutching a bamboo dragonfly. She ran joyfully through the fields, my mother chasing behind. The dragonfly spun round and round, making me feel like I was flying, my laughter ringing like a silver bell. I thought there could be no happier day.
Later, a group of celestial beings visited our village. They healed the sick, banished evil, and the villagers were grateful. They said I was a person of pure heart, a seed of true immortality, and wanted to take me to their sect.
I asked what it meant to be pure of heart. They said it was to have a heart as clear as crystal, untainted by evil. I asked if I could fly like them. They said yes, and that I would fly even higher.
Though my parents were reluctant, the thought of me being well-fed, warm, and becoming an immortal convinced them to agree.
So, I followed them to the sect…
That hellish place.
I didn’t know where I was when I woke up, surrounded by faint candlelight, cold iron chains, and a dark prison cell. Fear overwhelmed me, my cries echoing unheard in the cavern.
Eventually, people came. I begged for help, but they said nothing. They brought me food—a revolting gruel filled with eyes, tentacles, and bubbles. I refused to eat, so they forced it down my throat. The more I vomited, the more they fed me.
My body began to change. My feet, once dancing in the meadows, now had webbed toes. My hands… why did they look like this?
I thought nothing could be worse, but each day brought new torments. They said the results weren’t enough, so they brought in more grotesque creatures, like abominations from the deep sea. The stench, the slime—they all tried to burrow into my body.
In the dim candlelight, my body transformed. Bulging flesh grew, as if it had always been a part of me. One day, I broke free from my chains and tried to end my life, only to discover I couldn’t die.
They tightened my restraints, leaving me hanging like the ancient tree by the village gate, unable to move. I could only watch as the flesh grew, until one day, they entered my cell with a jade knife.
They cut off a piece of the strange flesh, but it rotted instantly. They told me to cooperate, to willingly let them cut the flesh, so I could return to my parents. I no longer believed them, but I reveled in their frustration.
Another day, a beautiful girl was brought in, her eyes vacant. She looked at me with disgust, saying if I didn’t cooperate, she would be next. I wanted to pity her, but I couldn’t even pity myself.
I still refused to cooperate, and their actions grew more violent. The pain was unbearable, but my body always healed.
“Does it hurt?” she asked, her form barely human.
“Yes,” I replied. It was the first time I had spoken to her. We talked more, sharing stories of love, friendship, and family. She called me her little sister, and I called her my elder sister. She couldn’t stop them, but she comforted me with stories, giving me the will to live.
One day, my defiance angered them again. They threatened her with the vile creatures and gruel, forcing me to cut my own flesh. I knew this day would come. My father had told me most stories were lies, and so was she. Her purpose was for this day. But in the endless darkness, even false hope was hard to resist.
I even thought that these people not using my parents to threaten me was a mercy. But perhaps my parents were already dead.
I cut off my own flesh and gave it to them.
They gathered around my elder sister reverently, and she spat on me, cursing me as “ugly” and “disgusting” before disappearing forever.
The next day, someone told me my flesh was effective, and I had truly become Tai Sui.
Tai Sui, from its inception, was destined to be food.
After that, I was placed in a coffin, seeing nothing. After an unknown passage of time, I awoke in a crystal cage. The people around me had changed, now more dignified and ethereal, calling me the sacrificial offering for the Immortal Ancestor.
My desire for revenge had long since faded. More than disgusting them, I wanted to end my life.
As I willingly walked into the so-called Immortal Ancestor’s tomb, a strange octopus-like creature appeared—the Dream-Eating Ghost. It rescued me.
I thanked it, but the Dream-Eating Ghost said its purpose was also to have me eaten, only by a different master.
The Dream-Eating Ghost hoped I would willingly become the key to the True Sovereign’s resurrection. In exchange, it would grant me one wish.
I was at a loss, unsure what to wish for.
I was kept in a pristine world within the Dream-Eating Ghost, hiding in the consciousness of various people. Their memories showed me the wonders of the world.
Knowing I couldn’t escape my fate, I wished to explore this world. But looking at my body, I despaired. I didn’t belong in this vibrant world. No one would accept me. Sweet pastries and genuine emotions were not for me; only cold prisons and empty destinies awaited.
Finally, we reached our destination. This time, we hid in the consciousness of a handsome young man.
The Dream-Eating Ghost said he was the most suitable vessel for the True Sovereign in this city. I guessed it chose him for the same reason I was drawn to him—an inexplicable allure.
Entering his mind, we were surprised to find his memories shrouded in darkness. He was blind! Yet, his feelings for his Master, Master’s Wife, and especially his Junior Sister were profound, unhindered by his inability to see them.
But the Dream-Eating Ghost told me his Junior Sister was not human, but half a demon.
Jealousy surged within me. I used my wish to stage a selfish drama…
