Chapter 31 - Spirit Source Tier 2 Post

Chapter 31: Spirit Source Tier 2 Post

Concubine Fang was usually reticent, but faced with piles of spirit stones and spirit pearls, she seemed to have something to say. Yet, after several hesitant glances, she ultimately remained silent.

Wu Yuan, though exhilarated, noticed her demeanor but chose not to probe. If she truly wished to speak, she would reveal it in time.

Now that he had gathered enough spirit pearls to upgrade the post, Wu Yuan no longer wanted to linger here, waiting for more spirit stones and pearls to be unearthed. However, before returning, he needed to arrange matters concerning the spirit stone mine.

Since operations had already begun, there was no turning back. He had to station personnel to both guard and continue mining. Fortunately, he had anticipated this before arriving, so among the post’s soldiers was a preselected candidate for the role of overseer.

This man, named Song Qinglou, was one of the recruits from the second batch of refugee camps. When he first arrived at the post, his physical cultivation was only at the mid-stage of Muscle Training. Now, after just over twenty days, he had reached the peak of the Muscle Training realm.

While his cultivation speed was impressive, it wasn’t the reason Wu Yuan valued him. Currently, there were at least eighty people at the post with higher cultivation than Song Qinglou. What set him apart was his intellect.

Less than a day after Wu Yuan returned from Blue Star, Song Qinglou had requested an audience and presented him with a proposal for restructuring the post’s management system. This proved he was not only well-read but also capable of independent thought and practical application of knowledge—qualities Wu Yuan highly prized.

Admittedly, many of Song Qinglou’s ideas were rough and one-sided, far from the refined strategies Wu Yuan had honed over centuries of dream memories. Still, Wu Yuan adopted some of his suggestions.

For instance, the role of overseeing the public treasury, previously handled by Cai Yu, was formally named the “Public Treasury Office.” Cai Yu became its director, and the fifty enslaved women under her were redesignated as “treasury clerks.”

Hei Niqiu was appointed as the Public Treasury Office’s inspector, responsible for supervising the inflow and outflow of major resources and participating in monthly audits.

Once decided, Wu Yuan swiftly issued his orders:

“Song Qinglou, from now on, you are the overseer of the cave mine, responsible for guarding and supervising the extraction of the secondary spirit stone vein. You will command twenty armed post soldiers for now.”

“Understood!”

Song Qinglou accepted the assignment solemnly, his expression betraying excitement. Clearly, he didn’t view this as a hardship.

“Chuan Yu Tower will also station personnel at the mine—two agents, one male and one female, for now.”

Wu Yuan instructed Luo Xiangluo on the spot, then announced further arrangements:

“Currently, mining operations here are minimal, but two female clerks from the Public Treasury Office will oversee accounting, supervise scheduled transport, and manage the distribution of mining supplies. The Wooden Fort Supervisory Office will dispatch a hundred enslaved men to assist in mining, along with ten enslaved women to handle food and logistics.”

Luo Xiangluo bowed. “Your plans are thorough. I have no objections.”

“Then let’s go.”

With that, Wu Yuan led the way out of the cave.

Twenty post soldiers, including Song Qinglou, remained behind. Shortly after, two agents—one man and one woman—were sent to join them, selected from the four spies Luo Xiangluo had brought.

Wu Yuan and the rest of the group immediately began their return journey to the post.

Due to the need to guard against monster attacks along the way, the trip took half a day.

Luo Xiangluo returned to Chuan Yu Tower, while Wu Yuan headed back to the post.

Before upgrading the post, Wu Yuan issued two orders—one to the Public Treasury Office and another to the Wooden Fort Supervisory Office—instructing them to select personnel for the cave mine and request an armed escort.

Additionally, to prevent any anomalies during the upgrade, all post personnel were temporarily evacuated.

With these preparations complete, Wu Yuan finally turned his attention to the upgrade pool and began tossing in spirit pearls.

Part of him wanted to recklessly dump all the pearls in at once, but considering their value far exceeded gold coins, he couldn’t bring himself to do it.

After some thought, he decided to replenish the post’s spiritual energy reserve to 10,000 points before stopping. The remaining pearls would be stored in his private treasury as part of his personal reserves.

The post’s current spiritual energy reserve, boosted over the past five days, had already reached 942 points.

He spent 185 spirit pearls to raise it to 10,000 points—meaning each pearl contributed less than 50 points on average. Still, he was satisfied.

In theory, a single secondary spirit pearl could yield 100 points, but in reality, the average was much lower. Fifty points was neither exceptionally high nor disappointingly low.

The remaining 850 or so pearls were all deposited into his private treasury. Content, Wu Yuan finally opened the post’s interface and selected the upgrade option.

“Hum—”

A clear chime rang out.

The screen before Wu Yuan’s eyes brightened instantly as lines of black text appeared one after another:

[Upgrade request detected. Calculating…] [Due to spatial reinforcement, upgrade requirements have been modified: Spiritual energy reserve requirement doubled. Resource requirement increased fivefold.] [Spiritual energy reserve sufficient.] [Resource reserve sufficient.] [Upgrade initiated!]

Brilliant spiritual light erupted inside and outside the post as countless runes surged from beneath the ground like swimming fish.

Simultaneously, a massive milky-white energy vortex formed above the post, expanding rapidly until it spanned several miles in radius—a breathtaking sight.

The post’s courtyard space grew continuously, soon dividing into front and rear sections. The towering piles of Hardgold Wood and Blue Steel Stone were steadily whittled down, shrinking by dozens of cubic meters every second.

Wu Yuan could sense the post undergoing tremendous changes. Its footprint expanded according to his will, new structures emerged, and existing buildings grew in size and interior space.

For instance, in the blink of an eye, he noticed the Spirit Suppression Tower had gained an additional floor, now two stories tall, with an elegant staircase leading upstairs.

The interface soon displayed the key changes brought by this upgrade.

Wu Yuan opened the post’s property panel to review everything at once.
