Fairy Tail: Jinchuriki

Chapter 171: 171. The Hero Returns

When Alex has just returned, everything seems fine. Of course, everyone he greets like the town people he knows are really surprised when they see him still alive, but it's a normal reaction when seeing someone they thought had died.

He contacts his acquaintances outside his Guilds and also shocks them. Those like Ur, Ultear, Lyon, Jura, guys from Blue Pegasus, etc, are coming to Fairy Tail quickly to confirm it, and of course, they are very surprised.

Soon, his return became the headlines of many newspapers. It shakes the whole Ishgar because someone who they thought to have died is actually still alive. He even gets called by the Magic Council to be questioned about many things.

Fortunately, this is a Magic World. Even something like a resurrection isn't entirely impossible here even though it's a taboo and those who try to do it will be punished by God like Zeref and Mavis.

The Council is more curious about whether Alex is also performing a taboo that can enrage the God of Life or not. So when they confirm that he is alive because of a very powerful defensive spell, they calm down quickly.

After all, resurrection is a type of Black Magic that is banned in Ishgar. Not only will it bring the wrath of God, it is also against the moral. So the Council was worried that a forbidden spell was used to resurrect Alex.

The Council doesn't just want to question Alex about it, they also want to offer him to be a Wizard Saint. Their reason isn't because he is powerful, but because of his fame and influence as the hero who stood beside their former strongest Mage, God Serena.

Alex, being someone who doesn't like troublesome things, obviously refuses. He knows how busy a Wizard Saint can be after seeing Makarov for years. They can suddenly get summoned or tasked to solve troublesome things when they want to rest.

"Did Gildarts also get offered to be a Wizard Saint?" Alex asks Makarov on their way back from the Council Headquarter.

"Yeah, and he refused with the same reason as you. Honestly, why didn't either of you just accept and replace this poor old man. It's already time for me to retire, you know. I can't be a Wizard Saint and a Guild Master forever."

Makarov has tried to pass down the position of Guild Master to Gildarts in the last 6 years. But that middle-aged man always refused. He still likes to work far away and very rarely returns, so he doesn't want to be a Guild Master.

Makarov also offered it to Alex when they were going back from Tenrou Island. Alex is one of the strongest and everyone in the Guild listens to him, even the troublemakers. So Makarov thinks he is a very ideal candidate.

But just like Gildarts, Alex refused. His reason is mostly the same as Gildarts. He still enjoys working as a Mage and traveling around the world. Being a Guild Master will take too much of his freedom.

"What about Laxus?"

"He is also one of the troublemakers. Instead of someone who will stop the fights and scolding them, he is someone who will join them."

"Well, we are still too young to stop working as Mages and we still need to see more of the world to gain more experience. The most ideal candidate is Gildarts if we consider age and experience. But if it's still not possible after a few more years and you really want to retire, just choose Macao, Wakaba, or any senior member. Everyone will support your decision and help them."

"Macao, huh? I can imagine him cowering in the corner during meetings with other Guild Masters or even the Council with all the pressures from those strong Mages."

It's not really an urgent matter currently, so they can think about it slowly. When Makarov really needs to pass down the position, like if he starts losing to old age, then Alex will help him "convince" Gildarts to accept the position.

After all, with his age, Gildarts will need to settle down and stop taking too dangerous jobs soon even if he still has the power to do it. His daughter is already at a marriageable age, so he might get a grandchild soon and it will be easier to convince him then.

"If you want to make him a Guild Master, you should talk to Cana instead of Gildarts himself."

"Hmm, I guess you're right."

Anyway, the commotion caused by Alex's return is so big it drowned the news of this year's Grand Magic Games. Sabertooth won this year's event, just like in the series. But it doesn't feel special without the main Mages from the big Guilds that didn't participate because Fairy Tail didn't participate.

The big Guilds still send representatives, but mostly are just newbie Mages or their average level members that they sent to gain experience because their strong members didn't see any point in participating without their main rival, Fairy Tail.

Thanks to that, Sabertooth could easily win the competition. They are also a big Guild that rose very quickly in the last few years. In the previous Grand Magic Games, they even competed for podiums with the big Guilds, but couldn't take the victory yet.

Now they finally won, but they are still displeased because it's like the victory was given to them for free without the strong Mages from other big Guilds. So it's like they can only win when others aren't serious and of course, they don't like it.

Fairy Tail as the one that caused it becomes the target of their anger. Furthermore, Fairy Tail takes away the spotlight from them with Alex's return, frustrating them even more. They swear they'll crush Fairy Tail and win the next event, so they work hard to raise their power.

Well, it's not just Sabertooth that tries to get stronger for the next event. The other big Guilds are also working hard to increase their power. After all, Alex has told them that he wants to join next year's event which motivates them greatly.

All of them want to fight the man who could survive a battle with the Black Dragon of Calamity that could even kill the strongest Mage of Ishgar. They have a year to prepare and those who know Alex will also know that it won't be just them who prepare for it, but Alex too.

So for the next 1 year, Alex's plan is to keep training and take difficult jobs to polish his skills again. He needs to get used and find ways to utilize his new ability, the Rinne-Sharingan.

But before that, he needs to do something very important. He needs to visit Layla's tomb. 2 years ago, Layla's condition dropped. Her already weak constitution got even worse. It kept getting worse that she couldn't even leave her bed.

Then just last year, she finally succumbed to her illness. Before she passed away, Lucy told her that Alex was still alive, but trapped in a crystal. It made her happy even though she couldn't see him with her own eyes.

Layla's death was devastating for both Lucy and Jude. Even Alex was very sad when Lucy told him about her mother's death. But he was also glad that he could give their family additional years to stay together because Layla was supposed to die when Lucy was just still a child.

Losing a mother they love is devastating for any child at any age. But losing her when one is an adult is easier than when one is still a child. At the very least, Lucy's childhood was still complete with both of her parents loving her now.

Only after paying his respect to Layla in her tomb and putting a bunch of her favorite flowers there does he start working as a Mage again. He takes his favorite Dark Guild subjugation quest as his first job after 6 years.

The number of Dark Guilds actually grew significantly in the last 6 years. There are even cults that worship Acnologia appearing in some countries. It's assumed that those Dark Mages believe that Ishgar is powerless against Acnologia and only Zeref can stop him, that's why many chose to side with Zeref and the more retarded ones even sided with Acnologia.

Alex has a different guess though. It can be Alvarez's scheme to plant more spies in Ishgar by making these Dark Guilds. Another possibility is Tartaros that now stands alone above all Dark Guilds is expanding their power.

With Grimoire Heart destroyed, they don't have any competitor in the Dark Guild world. So they are free to move and expand their influence, creating many new Dark Guilds to help them with their unknown goals.

Well, Alex is more than happy to eradicate them and find out their real motives. He starts with those based in Fiore before targeting the ones in other countries. Alex is so fast in eradicating Dark Guilds that he even takes some Dark Guild subjugation quests at once.

For a year, he only takes Dark Guild subjugation quests. When he's not working, he is training with his Guild Mates, increasing their Guild's power. Then just like that, the time for year X791's Grand Magic Games finally comes.
