Fairy Tail: My Magic is the Sun

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Escanor Returns

On this day, across the vast Magnolia Continent, every Magus—regardless of rank or power—felt an inexplicable pull, a silent call drawing their gaze toward the distant horizon. Awe and reverence filled their hearts like a rising tide.

The weaker Magi fell to their knees in unspoken worship, while the mightiest—the top four of the ten Wizard Saints, transcendent Grand Magi from Heart of Grimoire and Tartaros—stood rooted, their eyes wide with recognition and dread.

"Someone... is becoming a god," murmured the Master of Heart of Grimoire, disbelief coloring his voice.

Ultear, standing close by, clenched her fists inwardly. "It's him," she thought, though her face betrayed nothing but calm resolve.

Meanwhile, Escanor himself felt no fanfare within. His transformation complete, he reined in his colossal aura and set course for the Fairy Tail Guild.

Rumors had spread like wildfire—Magus Guilds and kingdoms dispatched investigators to scour the Sun Mountains, but all they found were shattered peaks and scorched ruins. Even those with powerful magic senses felt a lingering tremor of something immense, almost divine, radiating from the place.

Breaking the sound barrier, Escanor descended upon Magnolia like a blazing comet.

"Hey! Everyone! I'm back!" He called out as he pushed through the guild doors, his voice booming with joy.

"Escanor!"

"You're back!"

"Finally, you decided to show up, you brat!"

Escanor's face lit up at the familiar shouts, making his way to the guild bar.

"Mira, I'm back, you know," he said warmly.

A teary smile blossomed on Mira's lips. "Welcome back," she whispered.

"A banquet for Escanor's return!" Makarov declared, his excitement contagious.

The guild erupted in cheers—glasses raised high in celebration.

"You do know how sad Erza and Mira were without you?"

"Yeah! Making the two beauties cry... you're a true sinner, Escanor!"

"No news at all. If it weren't for your magic crystal here, we'd have been worried sick."

Escanor grinned sheepishly. "Sorry, sorry… Training took longer than I thought."

Mira stepped closer, concern heavy in her voice. "Did you solve your problem?"

"Mhm, it's solved. Don't worry," Escanor assured.

After the night's festivities wound down, Mira and Makarov remained. Escanor learned that Erza, overwhelmed by his absence, had thrown herself into missions, her pain channeled into relentless work.

Makarov, eyes bright with curiosity, asked the question on everyone's mind:

"Escanor, what level have you reached now?"

Escanor smiled slyly, drawing a controlled aura that filled the room with palpable power.

"You feel it yourselves."

Makarov's eyes widened. "That magical pressure—it was you today?"

Escanor nodded, scratching the back of his head with a bashful grin.

"My grandson has grown beyond my imagination," Makarov murmured with pride. "Escanor… have you truly become a god?"

"Not yet," Escanor answered thoughtfully. "I've only just knocked on the door. My body and magic have transformed, but to truly ascend, I must merge my magic source fully with my body, and the soul must evolve as well. I have some clues about the last step, but no answers yet."

Mira said little—her heart was content knowing he was safe and strong.

"So becoming a god is a process of transformation?" Mira finally asked.

"More than that," Escanor said. "It's about listening to the will of heaven—the authority that shapes the world. We mortals are but small pieces, but gods grasp the unseen forces and command them. For now, I can borrow the power of the sun—to strengthen or to strike."

"Manipulating the power of the world itself…" Makarov's voice trembled with awe.

"Not quite. I'm not a god yet—I can only borrow it."

"Still, it's terrifying."

Makarov excused himself, citing age and the need for rest, leaving Escanor and Mira alone.

Escanor hesitated, looking into Mira's smiling eyes.

"No need to say anything," she said, gently covering his mouth. "I know everything."

"You've been through so much. I won't leave you anymore. Never again. I'll stay by your side forever."

The power within Escanor had shifted his heart as much as his body. No longer would he hide from his feelings.

He wrapped his arm around Mira's slender waist, and with a burst of magic, they soared upward, wind insignificant against their strength.

Beneath the full moon's watchful glow, Escanor held Mira close, his voice low and earnest.

"Mira, I'm serious. Will you entrust me with the rest of your life?"

Tears shimmered in Mira's eyes—her dream realized sooner than she dared hope.

"I do. No matter what you become, I will be faithful until death."

She grinned playfully.

"But what about Erza and Ultear?"

"This… this… all of you! None can escape!"

Escanor laughed.

"You greedy man…"

A deep kiss silenced her teasing.

Under the radiant moon, the man and woman became one, bound by love and strength.

"Let's go to my place… Elfman's on a mission. I'm all alone tonight."

Escanor lifted Mira gently, flying toward her home.

Tonight was destined to be another sleepless night.
