Chapter 171: Dragon Breath
"It's you!!!"
The King of Edolas, Faust, trembled at Su Yan's colossal form, but he quickly recognized the voice. The very one that had brought him so much humiliation moments ago.
A short while ago, Su Yan had indeed considered evaporating the entire royal capital with his dragon breath. However, remembering that countless innocent people were present—along with Natsu and the others still inside the palace—he abandoned that plan.
"I never imagined you were a dragon! No wonder your power is so immense. But even a real dragon can't stand against great Edolas!" King Faust roared. "Everyone, attack! All Royal Army and Legion units—attack!!"
Though afraid, the troops complied.
Rounds of magic bullets streaked toward Su Yan. They detonated on his gargantuan form, but he barely felt them. Like other Zoan-type Devil Fruit users, his beast form granted enormous vitality, defense, and recovery. These magic bullets were far too weak to pose any real threat.
Nearby, the Region monsters reared back to charge. Su Yan didn't bother attacking them directly.
"Tornado!!!"
Coiling his massive body in the courtyard, Su Yan whipped up several gigantic twisters.
"Ughhhh!!"
"Aaahhhh!!"
Buildings ripped apart wherever the howling cyclones passed. The Region monsters were sucked in, bellowing, and the Royal Army on the ground scattered in terror.
"It's like…some 'natural disaster'!" Citizens in the capital gaped at the palace ruins.
From another floating island high above the capital—Extalia, homeland of the Exceeds—its inhabitants watched, shivering at the sight of Su Yan's monstrous form. One strike had effectively annihilated Edolas's troops.
"Damn you!" King Faust yelled, shaken by Su Yan's destructive fury. But he refused to give in, obsessed with possessing all magic. "Die! Die!!!"
He steered Dorma Anim's cannon toward Su Yan and unleashed another massive laser blast.
"Boom—-!!!"
A blinding flash lit the sky, the explosion's shockwave rocking the capital below. Yet from that billowing smoke emerged Su Yan, swooping down unscathed.
"H-how?!" Faust's eyes bulged; his strongest attack had done nothing.
Su Yan's tail lashed forth, forcing Dorma Anim to leap aside. Then a giant dragon claw clamped down on the mechanical beast.
"Uh-oh!!"
Crrrack!
Dorma Anim's supposedly unbreakable armor groaned under the pressure. Inside the cockpit, alarms blared.
Faust's face twisted in sudden terror. He'd finally realized what kind of monster he had provoked. Su Yan hoisted Dorma Anim closer to his head, and through the viewport, Faust saw the dragon's gaze glaring right into him.
"You like firing beams to kill people, huh? Then let me vaporize you with my dragon breath!"
Power swelled inside Su Yan's open jaws. Even before it ignited, Dorma Anim's outer shell began to soften from the tremendous heat.
"N-no, spare me—help!!" Faust shrieked, seeing no escape from his fate.
Su Yan was about to obliterate the Edolas king when someone's voice called out:
"Su Yan, don't kill him!!"
"Heat Breath!!!"
A scorching beam erupted from Su Yan's maw, painting the capital in blazing red light. Instead of striking Dorma Anim, the blast shot past it, slamming into a floating island outside the capital.
In seconds, the island softened like wax under extreme heat, collapsing into torrents of magma that poured down from the sky. Soon, the island completely dissolved, molten rock raining onto the landscape below.
Everyone who witnessed it stood paralyzed, trembling with dread.
"The…floating island…disappeared!!!"
Natsu, Gajeel, Wendy, Lucy, and the others were already familiar with displays of Su Yan's power. Though it remained every bit as jaw-dropping, it didn't frighten them so much as thrill them.
But for those seeing it for the first time, the sight of a massive island simply melting away was overwhelming.
"That…that's…" Edolas Lucy's voice shook.
Natsu looked skyward, eyes blazing with excitement. "That's the strongest wizard in our Fairy Tail!"
"Aye!" Happy chimed in, equally elated.
At last, Edolas Lucy understood why Natsu and the rest had shown no fear in challenging an entire kingdom. With a wizard like Su Yan, who rivaled a god in power, their confidence had never wavered.
