Chapter 284: Battle Dragons
Su Yan strode into the fray, mace crackling with Overlord and Armament aura in hand. The other guilds had dispatched their Dragon Slayers to finish off the smaller beasts, leaving the great red wyrm to him.
He advanced step by step, the ground fracturing beneath his feet.
"Be careful!" Natsu called, unleashing flames against a wyvern's flank. "Its scales are almost invulnerable!"
The red dragon sneered. "Another puny human? Your magic cannot harm me!"
Without hesitation, Su Yan swung his mace—and the impact rocked the dragon to its core. It howled in pain and careened backward, its massive form slamming through buildings.
On the palace balcony, Zirconis the Emerald Dragon chuckled. "Which of you should I devour first?"
Wendy summoned her courage. "Zirconis… remember your promise!"
Carla shook her head. "He's an undead spirit—talking won't work."
Zirconis draped his great wings. "Then I'll feast on you all!" He unleashed a beam of emerald light.
Lucy dove forward, shielding Wendy and Carla. The blast blasted the soldiers' armor and clothing clean off—leaving them standing, red-faced and naked.
"Humans taste delicious, but clothes… unpalatable," Zirconis chuckled. The soldiers shrieked and fled, too embarrassed to fight unclothed.
"So men are tough, but women…" Zirconis licked his lips.
Lucy trembled in his grasp. Wendy whispered urgently, "Is that… an innate dragon spell?"
Zirconis grinned. "All dragons wield magic. Mine strips you of dignity."
Wendy raised her staff. "Then I'll strip your power away." She cast a strengthening charm on Erza and Mila, who arrived in flight-capable armor at Su Yan's command.
"Erza! Mila!" Lucy gasped as Erza fetched her from Zirconis's talons.
Mila's eyes glowed. "Your meal has been taken—now face justice!"
Zirconis roared and raked the ground with claws, fissuring the plaza beneath their feet. Then he beat his wings and ascended. "How can mere humans reach me?"
He opened his maw to swallow Lucy whole—until Erza hurled a flying mace that clipped his jaw, sending her friend tumbling free.
"Happy!" Lucy cried as the Exceed swooped in to catch her.
Mila and Erza alighted side by side, cloaks billowing. "Come at us together," Erza challenged, sword gleaming under the moonlight.
Zirconis snorted. "Very well—then shed those garments!" With a blast of his aura, he stripped their armor clean off.
Wendy cried out, "We'll pay you back in kind!" and with Carla's help, flew in close to shield her friends.
Above them, Rogue's silhouette watched in the moon-shadow. His plan to break the mages' spirit was in motion… but he needed more despair.
From the sky, the Dragon Motherglare unleashed its brood: dozens of dragon eggs plummeted into the plaza, cracking open to spawn draconic whelps that roared and swarmed the defenders.
Mages scattered, weapons at the ready.
Mavis's voice rang out through the chaos: "Dragon Slayers, finish the great dragons! Everyone else, defend against the hatchlings!"
A rallying cry rose: "Ooh!"
As sword and spell met scales and flame, the tide of battle surged on—mortal will and draconic wrath locked in a deadly dance beneath the Blood Moon.
