Chapter 14: Ch.13: Purchases and Testing
The system shop is a very hungry beast. Many of the most expensive things in the shop cost millions of caps.
133,621 caps may sound like alot and it is if I were to spend them in Diamond City. But in the system shop? I'm still a peasant.
As I browsed the shop, I knew I had to be frugal after seeing all the prices.
What did I need? What will be the most useful?
Well considering my plans, a powerful weapon or some mode of transportation would be nice. Or maybe a good suit of power armor?
It took me awhile but I found some things to purchase right now as they will be the most helpful in my current state.
[Legendary Core] - 10k caps.
[Legendary Module] - 10k caps.
[Power Armor Chasis] - 10k caps.
[Auto-Doc Mark IX] - 60k Caps
["PHOENIX" Monocyte Breeder Implant] - 12k caps.
Everything came out to 102k, leaving me with 31k. Too bad [Hard Bargin] and Charisma doesnt change the prices of the shop.
To break down what I bought, I purchased a Legendary Module which can add a legendary slot to a weapon or armor.
The Legendary Core can allow me to fill that slot with a legendary effect.
So in essence, the creation of a legendary weapon or armor will cost me 20k each time at the minimum.
That's not cheap.
Maybe I can still find Legendaries out in the wild but I am still not sure.
Too be honest I dont know how legendary weapons or armor even work. Are they magic? Is there some technology there that I dont know that enables those effects?
Well I'll find out soon because I plan to make a weapon soon.
The next thing I got was a power armor chasis. I have plans for various sets of power armor already learned. I figured it was time to make myself one.
I didnt plan to wear the thing all the time but in situations I need a little more protection, it will come in handy.
I'll just pull it out of my inventory when I need it and go full on Iron Man on some bitches.
Now, the Auto-Doc... I realised the lack of medical facilities in my vault which was a problem.
Sure I have a room with medical equipment but nothing fancy. It's all just a few medical cabinets and a bed and table with scalpels and syringes as well as a Sympto-Matic.
The Auto-Doc is an amazing tool that can synthesize cures and even perform surgery on its own. Something I really need because I can't count on Savannah to know how to stitch me up in emergencies or perform complex procedures.
The Mark IX is shaped like a Pulowski Preservation Shelter and is among the best version of the Auto-Doc.
What really pushed me to get it was actually the last item. The "PHOENIX" Monocyte Breeder implant.
"Another variant of the Phoenix implant series, which speeds up cell regeneration by breeding monocytes (a type of white blood cell responsible for destroying pathogens and tissue repair) in a manner similar to lizards and sea creatures. This is the most expensive implant available at the New Vegas medical clinic. The "mild regenerative effect" closes wounds rapidly."
...is what the description said.
Using the Auto-Doc, I can have this implanted in myself and increase my healing factor to another level. And it also boosts my resistance to diseases too which is a win.
The goal is to be as unkillable as possible. And I'd like to think I am making good progress.
With the Adamantium Skeleton and my healing factor, I should be able to contend with many of the dangers of the wasteland.
But... it still isnt enough for me to feel totally safe.
I'm still nowhere near the level of Wolverine in terms of defences and rate of regeneration.
I'm at the level of a sturdy punching bag that self repairs over time so you can keep punching it.
After I was done purchasing the items, I started to make use of them.
I placed the power armor frame on my enclave version power armor stand. And then opened the craft menu.
"Shit!" I groaned in frustration.
"I don't have the enough materials to complete a set of X-01 or Hellcat..." All I can make is t-45 and the raider variant which I thought looked ugly.
"Well T-45 it is. I'll upgrade later. This should be enough until I can find something better."
I assembled the components such as molded plastic, steel, ballistic fibers, springs, adhesive, etc. And then I pressed craft to create each piece of the armor.
With a swirl of colors, the scrap blended together and armor pieces appeared on the frame.
"Shhh, that's nice!" My hands traced over the cold armor as I admired it.
"Hehe, let's take it for a test drive!" I grabbed one of the few fusion cores I had and went behind the armor.
I plugged the fusion core into the receptacle and then turned the hatch handle.
With a hiss, the armor opened up and I eagerly climbed inside.
The armor hatch closing behind me, sealing me in.
The helmet's hud lit up and I could see a display on the screen indicating the armors condition.
"One step forward..." The controls were not easy at all. My first step looked like a toddler's, and then my second and third. It took about five minutes just to get walking down without nearly toppling over.
The space in my lab was small so I had to take it easy.
"This is going to take some practice..." luckily for me I had the Swift Learner perk so I would save 10 percent of the time it takes to learn.
I exited the armor back at the stand and planned to resume training with it later.
I moved over to the weapons workbench and began browsing the weapons I could make.
"10mm... no. 44? No... hm."
I couldnt decide. 10mm sounded like a safe bet. The ammo is abundant and it is a solid weapon even up to end game if the legendary is right.
I had many gun plans unlocked but I wanted to use dual pistols and explosives as a secondary. But the options I had for pistols didnt appeal to me.
"Well I might as well spend a little bit more to get something I like..."
And with that I opened the shop again and found one of the pistols with one of the ones with the highest damage but an uncommon ammo type.
"12.7mm pistol... looks like a sleeker version of the 10mm but has a considerably larger stopping power. Perfect for attacking the vital points of larger beasts and still light enough not to slow me down..."
The only downside with the 12.7mm is the ammo. It will not be common to find but I should get the plan for that ammo type once I learn the plan for the gun. So I can make it or I could purchase from the shop in emergencies. If I take the [Ammosmith] perk later, I would also gain knowledge of scrapping ammo and get a 50% percent bonus to the amount of ammo I craft using the system.
Without further thought I spent 18k for the plan.
Once I learned it, I went back to the craft menu and then crafted two of them. I needed to be careful going forward since my materials were not infinite.
I pulled out one of my completed pistols and tested the weight in my hands.
"Not bad. I could still easily manage carrying two. I just need to get more related perks like [Gun Fu] and [Master Gunslinger] and I could be a monster. Especially if I get more perks that help me move through enemies unharmed like [Dodgy] and [Serendipity]."
I started thinking of my completed build. Moving in and out of combat like a ghost and delivering high precision damage to critical points.
Like an angel of death.
After a few moments of daydreaming I snapped myself out of it and focused on the task at hand.
I started modifying one of the pistols with the legendary module. A round slot appeared on the handle of the gun but was still empty. It was as large as a penny and deep as a pinky nail.
I then applied the legendary core and a sub menu popped up with a list of effects. All the classic legendary effects were there but of course things wouldn't be so easy.
"It costs experience points to add any effect?"
It was a bit of a shock but not much and the amount was not that high.
2500 XP that I had towards the next level disappeared in an instant after I confirmed my choice.
It seems the cost create a legendary effect might be calculated as 100xCurrent level=cost.
'So maybe it's better to create them at a lower level? But at higher levels XP would be easier to get... Hm, Something to think about.'
A green jewel like orb now filled the slot. It had a slight glow to it but wasnt bright enough to illuminate anything.
With my first weapon complete I bought a box of ammo which came with fifty rounds. I loaded the magazine and then tested the gun by firing at a mannequin I had set up for testing.
I breathed in and out slowly while lining up my shot.
*bang!*
I fired the bullet and activated VATS to see the damage in slow motion.
The bullet hit the mannequin's chest and a small explosion went off.
The mannequin had a baseball sized hole where the bullet hit and the area around that was scorched.
I had added an Explosive legendary core and this was the result.
"My god... So cool! I shall name you... Fuckbringer!"
