Chapter 18: Week 2 : Day 5 : Ryohei + Lussuria : When what blooms may not just be Sakura (3))

Hibari took Saya away, with Ryohei and Tsuna, in full-out battle mode, flying closely behind. Tsuna mentioned that Yamamoto had volunteered to take care of Jinnai and would escort him back to the hospital himself.

A loud explosion erupted once more at the research institute, followed by a thick plume of black smoke rising into the sky. Amidst the destruction, a gigantic flower suddenly sprouted from the building, as if it had been coiled up for a long time. It was a white flower with dense leaves that made it resemble a floating mass of vegetation.

The people within the institute fled in panic, running past Squalo and Lussuria, who stood frozen in shock. Meanwhile, Gokudera, Jeanini, and Shamal, who had been escaping as well, turned back to look at the enormous flower that had burst forth.

"Holy—!!!" Lussuria's face turned pale as he gaped in horror before screaming at the top of his lungs.

"We're doomed!" Gokudera shouted, hastily opening his Sistema C.A.I. box, only for Jeanini to cry out in alarm.

"If you use your weapons, Gokudera, the flower might be permanently destroyed! There are only a few of these flowers left in the world!"

"Tch! Then what the hell are we supposed to do?!"

"I doubt we're making it out alive, haa…" Lussuria groaned, prompting Squalo to snap at him, "Don't go saying crap like that at a time like this!"

"Don't say the word…."

Huh? Huh? I wonder… What's for lunch?

The giant flower suddenly spoke, its petals darkening as it twisted itself into a strange shape. Then, with a loud groan, it released a thunderous fart from its stamen, scattering dense yellow spores all around.

I wonder… why does it feel so nice after letting one out?

"This is bad!" Gokudera quickly fired his Flame Arrow to blow the spores away. The wind carried them in the opposite direction, but as they landed on a group of people who were fleeing, the victims suddenly froze.

"I wonder how many kilometers I can walk on my hands?"

"I wonder how much sushi I can eat?"

"I wonder how many times I can run around the world?"

One by one, the affected individuals began acting on their bizarre curiosities as if compelled to test them. A researcher attempted a handstand walk, another dashed off on a world-running mission, and one more sprinted toward Yamamoto's sushi shop.

"If you breathe in those spores, that's what happens," Gokudera muttered grimly.

"Exactly. That's why it took Hayato forever to make the antidote—he inhaled way too much of that stuff," Shamal added with a smirk.

Gokudera instantly turned on him. "Shut up! You didn't have to tell them that!"

"Back then, you were so curious about (censored), and then there was (censored), (censored), and that whole thing about (long, heavily censored phrase) …" Shamal continued to rattle off details until Gokudera, burning red from either fury or embarrassment, snapped back with a retort so obscene it barely avoided censorship.

"Anyway," Shamal said, lazily picking his ear before flicking out some earwax, "what do we do about this flower? It started off small, but now it's turned into a massive monster."

"Looks like I'll have to..." Squalo muttered softly, his face turning pale as he realized he had made a grave mistake. The flower had now turned black, releasing spores that enveloped both him and Lussuria. Even though Gokudera had fired shots to redirect the spores elsewhere, it was already too late.

"I wonder... if I swing my sword thirty million times, will it be able to cut through dimensions?" With that, Squalo started swinging his sword wildly, while Lussuria...

"If I open a dance stage with Kuu-chan, do you think we could become world-class idols?" The Peacock of the Sun attribute was summoned, and the two of them began dancing together in perfect synchronization, defying the very heavens. Kuu-chan emitted a bright glow of Sun flames, causing the Curious Flower to grow even larger.

Now, it had doubled in size, towering as high as a five-story building!

"Hey, Squid-head!" Ryohei called out, followed by Tsuna and Saya.

"Gokudera-kun!"

Gokudera turned around, only to freeze in shock at the sight of Saya in Hibari's arms. But what truly baffled him was the pair of handcuffs linking Saya's wrist to Hibari's. "What the hell did you do to her?"

Hibari ignored the question, refusing to put Saya down. Instead, he simply asked, "Where's the medicine?"

"In the research lab," Shamal replied, wondering why Hibari was carrying the girl around despite being cuffed to her with a Vongola Box Weapon. Seeing it was Shamal speaking, Hibari twitched his brow in irritation.

"By now, it might already be gone. But if we use that flower, we can make more," Shamal added.

"Is that so?" Hibari muttered, glancing at the massive plant. But before he could do anything, Shamal quickly warned,

"Don't even think about destroying it. We need it alive."

"Tch. So annoying," Hibari clicked his tongue in displeasure.

Saya whispered softly, "You can put me down now. My arms are getting tired."

Despite her words, Hibari remained still, acting as if he hadn't heard her. He glanced at her once before looking away again. Frustrated, Saya wiggled in his grasp and nearly shouted, "Hibari-san! I promise I won't run away!"

"Denied."

His calm response left Tsuna and Ryohei with strained expressions. Gokudera was no different, while even Shamal raised a surprised eyebrow. Saya blinked in disbelief, utterly confused.

"At this rate, I think we should use the Zero Point Breakthrough to freeze it in place. Ice should be able to preserve it until the flower returns to normal," Tsuna suggested. He then pressed his gloved hands together, fingertips touching but palms apart. "Zero Point Breakthrough."

Tsuna placed his hands on the ground, and ice surged forward, creeping into the research lab. Slowly, the ice climbed up, encasing the Curious Flower in a massive crystalline prison. Now, it could no longer move.

Saya's eyes sparkled with awe, having never seen anything like it before. The way the ice reflected sunlight made it glisten beautifully.

"Boss, how did you make such a scene without an Illusionist to cover it up?"

A soft voice spoke up, one Saya recognized instantly. A young girl with violet hair stepped forward, accompanied by two male students from Kokuyo. By this time, Tsuna had already exited his Hyper Dying Will mode.

"You arrived just in time, Chrome," Tsuna smiled at her. The girl nodded slightly and explained,

"Out-of-season sakura bloomed all the way to Kokuyo." Chrome said, "At first, I came to check since I thought it had something to do with Saya again, like last time. But then, Reborn contacted me, so I rushed over."

With just a tap of her trident on the ground, an illusion was cast. The scenery distorted before morphing back into the original state of the research facility.

"Tch. You guys always have to rely on Chrome," Ken muttered, while Chikusa walked up beside Saya. He took a glance at the strange situation between her and Hibari before silently turning away.

"Where's the medicine?" Hibari asked.

Shamal and Gokudera quickly ran into the lab, returning shortly after.

In Gokudera's hand was a single vial.

"The rest of the stock got destroyed. This is the only one left," Shamal said. "But at least this one is properly mixed and ready for injection."

Shamal swiftly grabbed a syringe, calculated the dosage, and injected it into Saya's elbow crease.

"Now, we just have to monitor her condition," the young doctor said. "I can't make any promises, but I think she should improve."

"Thank you, Dr. Shamal," Saya replied with a gentle smile. "At first, I couldn't quite remember because I was so young, but… you were the doctor who treated my sakura fever, weren't you?"

"You weren't even four years old back then, and yet you still remember?" Shamal responded, his expression tinged with a hint of sorrow. "That's unfortunate. I must not be very subtle."

"It took me a while to recall, but I remember you teaching me how to fold paper airplanes back then," the girl said, exhaling softly. "It's a shame I didn't keep them."

"Better not keep them, or you'll just end up missing me," Shamal chuckled lightly. "Though, I did consider proposing an engagement first and postponing the wedding. But looking at the competition now, I think I'll withdraw."

As he finished speaking, he glanced at Gokudera, who was now staring daggers at him. Seeing the exact reaction he had wanted, Shamal smirked.

Hibari eyed Shamal with distrust as the doctor walked toward the research institute. Raising his phone, Shamal contacted Reborn to report on the situation.

"Sakura fever, huh?" Gokudera asked Saya, his voice carrying an undertone of suppressed emotions that Saya could sense.

"Is something wrong?" she asked. When Gokudera met her gaze, he realized that this was something he shouldn't pursue. After overhearing their conversation, he didn't even dare piece the puzzle together.

Shamal had never hurt a woman—especially not a young girl. Despite his womanizing and inherently shady nature, Gokudera had known Shamal long enough to be sure that he wouldn't act without reason.

"It's nothing," Gokudera finally decided, taking a long moment before speaking. He hid his trembling hand behind his back. "Nothing at all."

But deep inside, he felt the presence of a dark truth—one that should never be touched. Yet, should it really remain a secret forever?

Upon returning to the hospital, they found Dino and Romario looking pale and exhausted, slumped on the lobby sofa. They had been running around handling the hospital damage all day, leaving them completely drained. However, the moment they saw Saya in Hibari's arms, they instantly shot up.

"Kyoya," Dino called as he rushed toward them. But Hibari walked past him, utterly indifferent, merely stating,

"I'm taking her to her room."

The group, still in a state of confusion and exhaustion, simply followed Hibari without saying a word. Dino, feeling increasingly bewildered, grabbed Tsuna to ask for an explanation.

After Hibari brought Saya to her new room to replace the old one, he placed her gently on the bed. Saya couldn't help but be surprised—was this really the same Hibari who had wanted to bite her to death just moments ago?

Without a word, Hibari removed the black handcuffs from her wrists before turning away and leaving. Shortly after, Yamamoto and Tsuna came to visit her, followed by Ryohei, Gokudera, and even Chrome.

As evening fell, Rinji and Naoka stopped by to check on her, and Kyoko arrived with Hana and Haru, her school friends, to visit as well.

Haru was a cheerful girl with dark brown hair tied into a high ponytail. Her large brown eyes sparkled with an energy so infectious it felt like she could brighten the entire world.

Hana, on the other hand, was someone Saya already knew. She had long, slightly wavy black hair and a tall figure. At first glance, she appeared aloof, picky, and sharp-tongued, often speaking in a sarcastic or blunt manner. However, once one got to know her, it became clear that she was simply sincere and straightforward. She was among the first people Kyoko introduced to Saya, and Saya liked her.

Everyone left around midnight, leaving only Lussuria, who remained to watch over her, and Gokudera, who now sat beside her bed, asking about her condition after the injection.

Jinnai, having sustained severe injuries, needed another day of rest and was unable to visit. Ryohei had to attend school the next day, so he had left with his younger sister, Kyoko.

"Lussuria, can you step outside for a bit?" Gokudera asked after removing his glasses, setting down his pen and notebook on the bed. "I have something important to discuss with Saya."

"Oho, a conversation between a young boy and a young lady, I see~" Lussuria teased before practically skipping out of the room.

Gokudera scowled in irritation, but once he was certain Lussuria was gone, he finally spoke.

"Saya-chan, have you known Shamal all this time?"

"Mm..." Saya thought for a moment before answering. "The doctor treated me for a while, and after I recovered, we lost contact."

"For a while, huh..." Gokudera paused when he saw the girl shake her head. "I see?"

"Do you know Dr. Shamal, Gokudera-kun?" This time, it was Saya asking.

"Just a little. He's an acquaintance," Gokudera replied while looking at Saya. Her blue eyes still had that innocent look, but he knew there was more to her than meets the eye.

"He's a good doctor, really considerate and kind. He'd let me go for a walk when I asked, and he wouldn't stop me from eating whatever I wanted."

Well, he's just a flirtatious doctor and a killer. It's in his nature to be bad and obsessed with women, only treating women, of course. And to top it off, he's my teacher.

Gokudera nearly spoke those words, his lips twitching, but he only responded with, "He's a good doctor."

"Right? Dr. Shamal is really kind."

Saya smiled, causing the young boy to pause in his thoughts before forcing a smile.

Seeing her smile and what she thought of Shamal, Gokudera decided that he wouldn't ask her any more questions about the Sakura Fever. He wouldn't tell her the truth about who was behind creating it. As for the truth that would come out later—about why Shamal tried to kill Saya back then—he would keep it a secret.

Gokudera wanted her to keep smiling like this. So, he decided that it would be best for Saya to continue seeing Shamal in this light. He lowered his gaze for a moment and then looked at her again.

"Are you free next week?" Gokudera asked.

"Huh?" Saya asked, confused. "What is it, Gokudera-kun?"

"...Would you... like to go see a movie with me? A sci-fi film is out, but I don't have anyone to go with," he said, his face turning slightly red as he avoided eye contact and spoke in a hesitant tone.

"Sure," Saya replied with a gentle smile.

Gokudera froze, not believing his ears as Saya smiled warmly. "If I'm free, I don't mind going as your companion. I also want to thank you for always helping me," she added.

The young boy was stunned. He didn't care about the second part of her sentence; it didn't matter. Right now, Gokudera was more focused on the first part.

His heart was racing so fast that he was afraid it might burst out of his chest. But according to the theory of science, organs are flexible enough not to let it happen.

But at that moment, Gokudera felt as if his heart was beating outside his chest. Upon hearing her agreement, a rush of joy overwhelmed him, as if Sir Isaac Newton himself was shouting in his ear, "I've discovered the theory of gravity!"

"You're shocked, aren't you?" Shamal chuckled softly from outside the room, watching with Luzuria. His stiff student didn't expect the girl to agree so easily. "From now on, keep it up, Hayato. There are plenty of competitors. The road ahead is long—winning her body is hard enough, but winning her heart is even harder. Good luck, my student."

"Good luck, octopus head," Luzuria whispered softly, but it seemed like Gokudera heard it, and he turned around with a murderous glare.

"Don't call me octopus head, damn it!!!"
