Chapter 37: Reality Fractured: Calibur’s Hell
Calvados, Normandy – the heart of the [Great Book]
A gray rain drizzled over the ruins. The aftermath of battle still smoked, the stench of burnt metal and human ash mingling with the damp air — thick with the stench of death.
Charlemagne — one hand gripping his sword stuck in the ground, breath ragged, bloodshot eyes — glared at the man before him: clad in armor as dark as midnight, twin crimson eyes glinting behind a helmet like dried blood. It was none other than Heroic Spirit Emiya Shirou – Kamen Rider Calibur.
Beside Charlemagne, Astolfo and Bradamante lay motionless. Further off, a single sword remained stabbed into the earth — the final relic of Roland, who had returned to the Throne of Heroes.
Emiya calmly raised his sword — Kuraiyami. He slid the [Jaaku Dragon] Wonder Ride Book across its blade, as if waking a long-slumbering demon.
[Hissatsu Read! – Jaaku Dragon!]
From the blade, a torrent of dark violet mist spewed forth — dense and vile, like living darkness. The sky itself dimmed, as if about to split apart.
[Kurayami Hissatsu Geki! – Shuutoku Issen!]
Emiya pulled the trigger. Took stance. Raised the sword overhead — and slashed downward in a death blow.
From the tip of his blade, a massive dragon of darkness erupted — formed entirely from Kuraiyami. Its eyes glowed red like twin hell-wounds, shrieking like a banshee as it lunged at Charlemagne, jaws like a forest of spears set to impale.
"WATCH OUT!!"
Bradamante burst from a pool of her own blood, using the last of her strength to shove Charlemagne out of the dragon's path.
She was swallowed whole.
And exploded mid-air in a blast of darkness — gone before a scream could even leave her lips.
"BRADAMANTE!!!" ×2
Charlemagne and Astolfo screamed in horror.
Eyes burning red, lips trembling. The comrade who had fought by their side across so many eras… now reduced to ash in an instant.
Emiya stepped forward, his voice cold as rusted steel dripping blood:
"A shame… But everything ends here."
He raised Kuraiyami high, ready to bring it down on Charlemagne—
"LORD… CAMELOT!!"
A roar split the despair like thunder. A white light surged forth, divine and absolute, slamming between sword and target.
Emiya stepped back slightly, narrowing his eyes.
From within the mist stepped a girl in black armor, violet hair fluttering in the rain — holding aloft an indomitable shield: Mash Kyrielight, Shielder of Chaldea.
"…" Mash said nothing. Her face was colder than ever, eyes burning with rage. The friend who just fell — Bradamante — was a fresh wound bleeding in her heart.
"Tsk… How troublesome." Emiya exhaled, voice dull like a bored executioner. He snapped the [Jaou Dragon] book closed on his Driver—
[Jaou! Hissatsu Dokuha!]
[Jaou! Hissatsu Giri!]
He sheathed Kuraiyami into the Driver, spun the blade once, and yanked it skyward. From the tip, a piercing violet-black energy screamed like a demon unleashed.
Five shadowy dragons burst forth, spiraling madly, roaring like they meant to devour the world itself — all targeting Charlemagne.
[YOU ARE OVER.]
"PRINCE CHARLEMAGNE!!" ×2
Mash and Ritsuka screamed, lunging forward in panic—
Too late.
The violet-black light swallowed Charlemagne whole. The earth quaked under the sheer force of the blast.
"No way… He was—!"
"…Don't mourn just yet."
Emiya turned his gaze to Ritsuka's group, voice like a death knell:
"Because... you're next."
"…You sure about that?"
A new voice rang out — cold, like steel scraping stone.
[BOOM—!!]
Where Emiya stood moments ago exploded in a flash of pure light. A storm of radiant spears followed, crashing down like a divine purge.
Emiya leapt back, his expression now grim.
"Hmph… So Vlad fell quicker than expected."
"And you… will be the next."
From above, Romulus descended. Each step shook the very earth, his eyes ablaze with divine wrath, body glowing like a second sun.
No words were wasted.
Romulus immediately unleashed Nine Lives — "Roma!"
A barrage of radiant spears sliced through the air, raining down like a meteor storm upon Emiya's location. The ground shattered, clouds of dust engulfed the battlefield.
"Hmph."
Emiya merely flicked his cloak — BOOM!!
All the spears were stopped cold. The light twisted and warped the moment it touched the dark violet fabric, bending unnaturally before vanishing into nothing — as if devoured.
"!? What the hell…!?"
Everyone froze. That cloak wasn't just some piece of clothing — it was a living barrier, a wall of malice that consumed both magecraft and willpower alike.
Astolfo, his body in tatters, still forced himself up, face soaked in blood, screaming:
"EVERYONE, BE CAREFUL! THAT HOLY SWORD OF HIS — IT CAN SEAL NOBLE PHANTASMS!!"
The team felt like their chests were being crushed.
"Seal... Noble Phantasms?"
Just those few words were enough to send chills down every spine. Attacks can be dodged. Spells can be countered.
But to lose your Noble Phantasm… was like having your wings torn off mid-battle.
Behind the helmet, Emiya's lips curled. Not a smile — just a hollow, numb expression.
"Too noisy."
He lunged forward — a black slash ripping through space like a streak of ink tearing the world apart.
Astolfo didn't even have time to turn—
"A-AAH—!!"
One slash tore straight through him.
Astolfo was flung backwards, his body shredded by the dark energy… until he shattered into light and vanished, returning to the Throne of Heroes.
"ASTOLFO!!!" ×2
Mash and Ritsuka screamed. Grief and fury exploded in their chests like a wildfire.
Each death carved deeper wounds — and Shirou moved on as if brushing trash off the road.
"Noah! Distract him, I'll strike from behind!"
"Got it!"
Romulus and Noah split instantly — Romulus unleashed a continuous barrage from afar, while Noah dashed in from behind like lightning. But—
Emiya stabbed Kuraiyami into the ground. A surge of cursed darkness erupted like a demonic tsunami, blasting through their defenses.
Noah was thrown back, rolling across the ground, but he pushed himself up with a snarl, gritting through the pain.
At that moment— Emiya summoned a jet-black bow and mounted Kuraiyami as the arrow.
"I am the bone of my sword."
"…Calibur."
The bowstring thrummed — Kuraiyami shot forth like a bolt of black lightning, ripping through the sky at unimaginable speed.
Romulus immediately activated his Noble Phantasm barrier — [Moles Necessarie] — but it was useless.
Kuraiyami pierced through the shield, exploding like a falling star, sending Romulus flying.
"Seal."
Emiya whispered — voice cold as a blade drawn across a throat.
From the sword's remnants, black chains of evil surged up, coiling around Romulus' armor. They tightened, squeezing like a serpent devouring its prey, dragging him downward.
Romulus clicked his tongue in frustration. He raised a hand to fire another volley — but…
"Wh–What is this… Rome… my Noble Phantasm's sealed!?"
"Aah… His Highness's Noble Phantasm is sealed!? That sword is… totally broken!"
Ritsuka's face turned pale, voice trembling.
"Hmph. As for the rest of you…"
Emiya raised Kuraiyami skyward.
Purple-black thunder exploded, raining down across the battlefield like judgment from hell.
"Kh—!"
"Everyone! Release your Noble Phantasms, now!"
Noah roared as he staggered upright.
"Switch Òn — Airgetlám!"
"Le Grondement de la Haine!"
"Noah Ark!"
Three Noble Phantasms lit up at once — divine light, hatred, and salvation clashing at the heart of the battlefield. The very air trembled with power.
"Tch. You think it'll be that easy?"
Emiya muttered, stabbing his sword into the earth, one hand placed over his chestplate.
"I am the bone of my sword… R'ho Aias."
A black-violet shield bloomed in front of him like a seven-petaled flower.
Bigger. Stronger. Impenetrable.
Fortified by the holy sword Kuraiyami, this Rho Aias was no longer just a shield — it was a wall forged from pure darkness.
An immortal fortress that stood before him, unshakable.
The three Noble Phantasms struck at once—holy light clashed with cursed steel, petals scattered in the storm, but the shield did not break.
"A-! You've gotta be kidding me!?" Jeanne Alter roared, face flushed with rage.
"And now… it's your turn." Emiya raised his blade, eyes devoid of emotion, as if killing were as natural as breathing.
"...Prepare to die."
He swung his sword—the dark energy slashed across the field, tearing the ground apart like paper.
"Kh…! Damn it! If I'd known there were holy swords like that, I would've dragged that lazy bastard here myself!!" Jeanne Alter groaned, clutching her head.
"Miss Jalter! Please hang in there!" Mash gritted through her teeth, her shield trembling under pressure.
"If we fail here—this Singularity will destroy the entire world!"
"I KNOW THAT ALREADY!! DON'T NEED YOU TO REMIND ME!!"
Just as despair threatened to swallow them whole, a familiar voice cut through the chaos like light breaking into hell:
"We'll take it from here."
"That's right. Leave this to us."
Taigong Wang, Nero, and Tezcatlipoca emerged from the distance, divine radiance trailing in their wake, casting long shadows over the battlefield.
"Ah! Reinforcements!" Ritsuka exclaimed.
"Be careful! His sword can seal Noble Phantasms!" Noah barked.
"We're aware."
Taigong patted his beast, his gaze cold as tempered steel.
"Leave the rest… to us."
"Hmph. Throwing more bodies into the fire, are we?"
Emiya caressed Kuraiyami, red eyes glowing like he was watching corpses yet to fall.
He swung his sword—a slash of black energy ripped through the air toward Nero.
She evaded quickly, countering with a fiery arc from her crimson blade.
Emiya merely flicked his cloak—the flame vanished instantly.
"Is that all?"
"Listen well!"
"You shouldn't underestimate others so easily!"
Taigong cracked his divine whip and charged like the wind. But Emiya raised his sword and blocked it effortlessly.
"Seal."
Black chains burst from Kuraiyami, coiling around the divine whip like vipers.
"Damn it!" Taigong pulled back, unease flashing in his eyes.
"Shaken already?" Emiya smirked, voice calm—like a predator playing with its prey.
"Good. Then let's end this."
He placed a hand on his chest and began reciting a familiar chant, his voice echoing like a funeral bell:
"I am the flesh and bone of my own sword.
Steel flows through my body, and fire is what courses through my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to death, nor known to life.
Many times I have withstood enormous pain to create thousands of weapons.
And yet, those hands that have braved so much will never hold anything.
So as I pray now, I call forth—Unlimited Blade Works!"
[BOOOOOOM—!!]
Flames erupted, devouring everything. Reality cracked.
The entire squad was pulled into the Reality Marble.
A world dyed in blood.
The ground: molten steel. Countless swords stabbed into the earth like gravestones.
Above: enormous gears turned slowly—eternally.
"...Is this... a Reality Marble?" Noah stammered, face pale.
"This is... terrifying..." Mash took half a step back, shaken.
"Afraid?"
Emiya raised his blade. His crimson eyes burned like the fires of the underworld.
"Well then… time to end this."
He clicked the Wonder Ride Book on his Driver—
[Jaou~ Dragon!]
In the skies above, a violet rift tore open—five black dragons roared as they descended, circling Emiya like a dark king's retinue.
"This is it—Round Two begins now."
He hefted Kuraiyami onto his shoulder, eyes narrowing with deadly intent.
The Reality Marble trembled with each breath, like a war drum pounding the death knell.
And the whole squad now stood in the middle of a crimson graveyard—
Hell, at last, had opened its gates.
