Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Thus I Strike

[3rd POV]

He felt impatient and uneasy.

While meditating on the back mountain, Kyouya inexplicably sensed a wave of unease that disrupted his previously perfect meditation and forced him to wake up.

[You feel an inexplicable sense of unease. You understand where it comes from and realize you don't have many attachments in this world.]

Something has happened to the temple.

He quickly figured out the source of his unease. He activated his "Divine Eye" and soon saw what was happening inside the temple.

A group of samurai had arrived at the temple, forcing Master Sifu to destroy the Buddha statue and reveal the hidden sword.

It's too late.

Kyouya didn't like to assume the worst in people, but he wasn't foolish enough to expect too much from them either.

This is an era of war—could anyone really expect these samurai to have high moral standards?

The problem now was that the back mountain was too far from the temple. He could not reach it in time, but he still began to run.

However, it was too late. Through his "Divine Eye," he saw the samurai leader already raising the cursed sword, heading toward his master, Sifu.

[You remember a story from the Buddhist scriptures. It says everything has Buddha nature, but you don't see even a trace of Buddha nature in the people before you.]

Even if all things have a Buddha nature, only a few throughout history have actually become Buddhas.

He understood that when a person decides to kill, they must be prepared to be killed in turn.

[You must save your master. You have made this decision and are prepared to break the vows.]

Vows?

That kind of thing is no longer needed.

He had come to terms with it.

Even if killing would disappoint his master, it was better than letting his master die, and disappointing him was nothing compared to that.

[You have seen through the true nature of the vows and understood their purpose as a tool. Nothing can stop you now.]

[The "Divine Feet" awakened: You're free to travel anywhere at will and arrive instantly.]

At this moment, space no longer held meaning for Kyouya.

As long as they were within his reach, the Three Realms and Six Paths were but a step away... he could reach them instantly.

He picked up a wooden stick from the ground and then took a step forward. In the blink of an eye, he crossed countless distances and arrived directly behind the samurai leader.

"Bang~"

Blood splattered everywhere.

No one had anticipated Kyouya's sudden appearance.

The samurai leader was struck with a heavy blow, lost his grip on the cursed sword, and fell to the ground.

He slowly stepped forward and picked up the sword.

However, he could already feel the murderous intent surging inside the blade when he grasped the sword.

Kill.

It wasn't just the instinct of a wild beast.

It was something darker—an evil force made purely for destruction, existing solely for the sake of killing and living solely to kill.

[You grasped the sword, and it feels like it has become one with your flesh and blood. You can feel its will and understand that this is the cursed sword you have been waiting for.]

[You have obtained "Cursed Sword Murasame." You feel the true essence of slaughter. The Noble Phantasm is unlocked.]

[Noble Phantasm "Thus I Strike" unlocked: You can cut through the doubts in your heart, sever the confusion within your heart, follow the teachings of the World-Honored One, and carry out the wrath of the Wisdom King.]

"Muku, you..."

Sifu stared in disbelief at the person before him.

He had hoped that since Kyouya wasn't here, the monastery's teachings would be preserved.

But now, everything was about to be destroyed.

"Master, please wait a moment. I'll handle this quickly."

"Muku… are you breaking your vows?"

Muku stared at him in disbelief, with his hand having already gripped the sword's hilt tightly.

Even though there was no killing intent in his eyes, the resolve to kill had already taken root inside him.

"Muku, you must leave now. You have the potential to become a Buddha, and don't let a few bandits ruin your path."

Although Sifu was merely a monk from a small mountain temple, he had traveled widely in his younger days and witnessed many things.

It was during that time that he had come across the cursed sword, Murasame.

He had never seen anyone like Kyouya, who could so easily enter a state of meditation at such a young age.

A person like this undoubtedly had the chance to become enlightened.

"Idiots! Kill him and take Murasame back!"

At this moment, the samurai leader had recovered.

He looked at the sword in Kyouya's hand, and an endless rage seemed to consume him. He couldn't care about anything else and only wanted to kill the person before him.

"Kill."

The loud shout of "kill" echoed nearby, but Kyouya didn't seem to hear them.

In the midst of this chaos, he once again entered a state of meditation.

The Buddhist scriptures say that in a single thought, there are ninety moments, and in each moment, there are nine hundred births and deaths.

For Kyouya, time was more than enough.

In meditation, Kyouya seemed to see the gods and Buddhas of the heavens watching from above, whispering and pointing at him for choosing to kill.

However, they didn't know that Kyouya didn't mind others guiding him, but he was deeply bothered by being pointed at by others.

Killing, vows, good and evil...

For the first time, Kyouya found these so-called "Buddhists" spoke nothing but nonsense, and he had only one response to those beings above, looking down on him.

"Evil demons blocking my path… Thus, I strike."

Without any hesitation, Kyouya swung his sword at the "Buddhas" before him.

A blinding light erupted, scattering these "Buddhas" in fear, revealing the ugly truth beneath their disguises.

They were not Buddhas but demons meant to confuse Kyouya's heart and mind.

When the illusions vanished, only one figure remained within his sight—a Bodhisattva.

Since the target of "Thus I Strike" had been those demons, it had no effect on this true Bodhisattva.

The Bodhisattva still sat with her back to him, not knowing what it was doing.

"Why does the Bodhisattva sit with its back turned?"

He asked the question that had been bothering him.

This figure had never turned to face him, never looked at him even once, and wanted to know why.

"I see."

The Bodhisattva still did not answer, but Kyouya had already found his answer.

He turned and left, disappearing into the space.

Through heard-to-heart without words, Kyouya received the answer just moments ago.

Why does the Bodhisattva sit facing away?

"It's because people are stubborn and unwilling to repent."

Kyouya's meditation ended.

The moment he opened his eyes and turned to strike, the tranquility that had once enveloped him shattered and remained consuming, killing intent that devoured the person before him.

[You have completed the journey from meditation to killing. You feel that your meditation has finally become whole.]

[The "Boundless Zen" awakened: You suppress all killing intent and empty your mind, reaching the state of enlightenment or Buddha and then unleash a single explosive strike, and even a normal strike will become much stronger.]

[You have finally broken free from the limitations of the vows. You have killed a person, and you feel your blade rejoicing.]

["Human-Slayer" awakened: You have a special advantage against humanoid enemies, and this advantage grows stronger as you kill more.]
