Fate: I Heard After Death, You Can Ascend to the Throne of Heroes?

Chapter 267: Changing Fate

(Words: 1869)

And just as Promise hesitated, unsure of how to respond, and the temperature around him began dropping rapidly, the cold becoming tangible, and the murderous intent in Morgan's gaze growing increasingly clear...when.

Suddenly, two knocks echoed from the door outside.

Then…

"Promise, are you back yet?"

Vivian's voice came from outside the door.

Promise was stunned for a moment and looked back subconsciously, but did not answer.

Instead, he turned back to look at the future Queen Morgan again, wanting to see how she would react.

However, what he didn't expect was that Morgan was gone.

When he looked back, all that remained was the fluttering window curtain swaying gently in the night breeze. If not for this trace, Promise might have thought that everything he had just experienced was nothing more than an illusion.

"I'm here," He replied and turned to open the door.

As the door creaked open, Vivian appeared before him, her face etched with worry, her eyes filled with a mix of confusion and suppressed pain.

Looking at the girl in front of him, he couldn't help but recall the Morgan he had just met—the Fairy Britain Queen who had literally stepped from the distant future to block his path.

For a moment, he fell silent.

"Are you okay?" Vivian asked naturally, noticing the strange look in Promise's eyes.

"Nothing's wrong," Promise shook his head, then thought of a moment before, speaking with a hint of curiosity in his voice, "But why have you come back? Weren't you just trying to convince me to leave just now?"

Vivian was silent for a moment before replying.

"I've come to take you with me."

Then she explained, "Because you're a real human, I absolutely can't let you die here… Are you willing to trust me?"

As she spoke, Vivian raised her head, her beautiful azure eyes locking onto Promise's.

Those sky-blue eyes were indeed stunning, but they made Promise feel uncomfortable.

Because it was hard to ignore the fact that only moments ago, equally beautiful eyes had been gazing at him, devoid of emotion yet brimming with killing intent.

"Of course, I trust you. And… I couldn't resist you even if I wanted to,"

Promise replied quickly, regaining his composure.

After all, even though his Heroic Spirit Class Card was currently unusable, his experiences and knowledge were not illusions.

With a smile, Promise even joked,

"After all, you are my esteemed master."

"I've told you so many times—stop bringing that up!"

Vivian couldn't help but retort loudly and glared at Promise again, but she didn't realize that as a result, her spirit, which seemed to be about to be crushed, was actually relieved a lot.

As a fairy from Paradise, Vivian had been raised with proper education within the Rain Clan's territory.

So, even in the twisted world of the Lostbelt, she inherently understood that treating humans as pets and slaves was wrong and utterly rejected such notions.

Had it not been for her ability to see through Promise's true humanity and her desire to protect him, she would never have allowed him to become a slave, not even in name.

"Enough of this! Promise, we need to leave immediately! If we don't go now, it'll be too late!" Gripping his hand tightly, Vivian urgently tried to pull Promise away with her.

But the latter didn't move.

Vivian turned back, puzzled as to why he wasn't following her.

"You just said that everyone here will die, didn't you?"

Promise's voice was calm as he looked at her and asked, "If we escape now, what about them? Vivian, did you tell them what's going to happen?"

Hearing his words, Vivian understood what he wanted to say and her expression turned bitter.

A sorrowful smile graced her lips as she replied, "The moment I learned about the future, I told everything to the clan leader immediately, but…"

She trailed off, not finishing her sentence.

But, in fact, even without her saying it, as a transmigrator, Promise already knew what happened next.

Vivian escaped.

But she was the sole survivor.

To ensure that Vivian, the fairy from Paradise, could survive, not only did the fairies of the Rain Clan sacrificed themselves, but the clan leader even disguised her own daughter as Vivian, allowing her daughter to die in Vivian's place.

Even in their final moments, their only concern was Vivian's future.

Promise, understanding this tragic truth, naturally asked, "Vivian, have you never thought about changing all of this?"

"Change?"

Vivian looked at Promise, a faint, bitter laugh escaping her lips as though mocking his naivety. "Do you even understand what kind of war this is? It's not a battle—it's a massacre.

"Four fairy clans joined forces to annihilate us in a single night. There's no escape."

"This… is already a destined fate!"

Vivian's trembling voice was laced with a sadness she could no longer suppress.

"Destined fate, is it?" Hearing these words that seemed to come from a long time ago and that he had never heard before, Promise couldn't help but feel a little dazed for a moment.

However, he soon chuckled softly and responded to Vivian, "Fate may already be written, but it is not unchangeable."

His words carried an ease and a peculiar confidence that startled Vivian as she instinctively turned to look at him, her gaze locking onto him.

In that moment, she did not know whether it was an illusion or not however, she felt as if the moonlight gathered solely upon him.

"Vivian, do you know? Waiting alone will not earn the favor of the Goddess of Fate."

Promise's voice was gentle, his emerald eyes as clear and bright as stars as they fixed on her. "Only when you resolve to give everything you have and show the Goddess of Fate the courage to create a brighter future—only then will she grace you with her favor."

Later, Vivian left.

Her expression was a bit dazed as she departed.

The truth was, in fact, she had never truly considered changing what she foresaw.

No, that wasn't entirely accurate.

It wasn't that she had never thought about it.

The rain clan was the only family she had, and she had this thought every moment.

But as soon as she had such thought she put it away.

Because of two simple reasons.

The immense disparity in power and the scarcity of time.

Though she had informed the clan leader of everything and hoped for their escape, deep in her heart, she had already abandoned the idea.

So, when the clan leader urged her to leave alone, Vivian, despite her sorrow, did not resist.

Shortly after she left and Promise returned to his room, closing the door behind him.

As he raised his head in a brief moment of absent-mindedness, he was shocked to find none other than Morgan, the Queen of Winter from the future, was actually sitting at the table..

Her veiled face remained steady, her sky-blue eyes fixed unwaveringly on him.

It took only a moment for Promise to understand what was going on.

After all, this was the Queen of the Lostbelt, someone capable of using magic to perform spirit particle transfers with ease.

For such a being, concealing herself from Promise and Vivian would have been nothing more than a trivial flick of the wrist.

In other words, Morgan had never left in the first place.

"What are you thinking?"

But now, Morgan, who reappeared in front of Promise, no longer carried as much coldness or killing intent in her gaze.

Having witnessed everything that had just transpired, a trace of doubt couldn't help but emerge in her mind.

"You intend to change the fate of the Rain Clan fairies, to prevent their massacre?"

Morgan's voice was calm, yet carried a hint of curiosity.

This was also the reason Vivian had been so dazed earlier.

Whether in the past or now, both Vivian and Morgan possessed the Fairy Eyes, capable of discerning lies and the essence of souls.

Thus, they could naturally tell that Promise had been completely serious in what he said.

"Yes."

Promise, snapping out of his thoughts, smiled once again.

He stepped forward and sat down directly across from Morgan, paying no heed to the unapproachable aura she radiated.

"I want to give it a try because… even though I've already died once, this is still my oath to her."

Having said this, he paused for a moment before he looked directly at Morgan and spoke.

"Besides, haven't you already rewritten your own fate? You were supposed to die, yet here you are, alive and well."

Not just alive but reigning as the Queen of Winter in the Lostbelt.

Hearing this, Morgan's gaze deepened as she looked at the young man in front of her, who clearly knew far more than he should.

"One small misstep and I would cease to exist. If I am no longer here, this world will be destroyed. Apart from the fairies from Paradise, no one else can withstand the calamity."

This was the most Morgan had said at once since appearing before him.

Promise also nodded in understanding.

He could grasp the situation because he knew that the so-called calamity was the punishment of the dead god upon the fairies of this continent.

The descendants of the six original sinful fairies were powerless against this punishment.

However, in this regard, the fairies of Paradise, who came from the Sea of Stars and were not resented by the god, were immune to its corruption.

"And I cannot trust you."

Without waiting for him to reply, Morgan glanced at Promise indifferently and said without emotion.

"You do not have the power to accomplish such a feat."

...Okay, let's be real for a second.

Isn't it possible that if you actually believed I had that power, you wouldn't be sitting here calmly talking to me like you are doing right now?

Instead, you'd be doing everything you could to eliminate me right here and now, wouldn't you?

Promise thought to himself with a clear sense of self-awareness.

After all, as Morgan, the Queen of Winter, had pointed out, her rise to become the ruler of this Lostbelt was an arduous journey.

A single misstep in her path could have led to the destruction of this world.

Under such circumstances, the sudden appearance of a true human, complete with memories and immense power, appeared in front of her.

If she truly perceived him as a threat, it was entirely within reason for her to erase him.

Her very presence in front of Promise carried the aura of a final boss personally arriving to eliminate a potential anomaly.

Especially since, unlike the innocent Vivian of this time, this future Morgan was well aware of Chaldea, the Lostbelt system, and many other secrets.

"But I still want to try,"

Even though he could not use the Heroic Spirit Class Card tied to the Greek pantheon, Promise still said with a smile.

After all, when he had rewritten an inevitable fate back then and brought shame to the petite goddess of fate, he was even weaker than he was now.

"I want to try to rewrite this fate!"
