Chapter 16: Chapter 15: Defeating Rider, Archer’s Warning
Cú Chulainn's strike seemed to enrage Darius III, his massive black-and-gold battle axe swinging down in a devastating arc toward the Irish hero's head.
Feeling the sheer force behind the attack, Cú Chulainn knew he couldn't afford to block it directly. Instead, he leaped back, leaving a rune on the ground mid-air.
As Darius III's strike landed, flames erupted from the rune, engulfing both him and his war elephant in a towering inferno.
Cú Chulainn smirked. "That should do it."
But the moment he thought he had won, the ground trembled violently. The war elephant, its eyes burning with a ghostly fire, raised a massive hoof and stomped down, extinguishing the flames in an instant.
"Tch, this damn elephant is too tough!" Cú Chulainn cursed.
"Look out, he's coming!" Ryuu shouted.
Darius III, now consumed by fury, roared as he charged forward atop his war elephant. At his command, an entire battalion of skeletal warriors surged toward them like an unstoppable tide.
With no choice but to evade, Ryuu and Cú Chulainn darted through the battlefield, barely staying ahead of their pursuers.
"This guy's defense is ridiculous!" Cú Chulainn growled. "None of my runes are doing jack!"
Ryuu's eyes flashed as an idea formed. "Follow me, Caster. I've got a plan."
While dodging the relentless onslaught, the two quickly changed direction, leading Darius III toward a specific location.
However, something was off—Darius III suddenly halted his charge at the border of his territory. The moment Ryuu and Cú Chulainn stepped outside it, he refused to follow.
Ryuu clicked his tongue. "Damn, looks like he's bound to this area."
"You seriously wanna drag that monster after us?" Cú Chulainn asked.
"I'm not letting a walking pile of Demon King Points escape," Ryuu said, his grin sharp. Without hesitation, he lunged forward, slashing at Darius III's face with his Furyblade.
The strike left a deep crimson gash, and the sight of his own blood sent Darius III into a berserker rage.
Roaring, the Persian king abandoned all reason, charging after Ryuu even as he left his domain.
"Now he's pissed!" Cú Chulainn shouted as he followed.
The ground quaked beneath the war elephant's thunderous steps. Buildings crumbled in its wake as Ryuu and Cú Chulainn sprinted through the city ruins.
Finally, they reached their intended location—a street riddled with underground tunnels weakened by past battles.
"Here we go!" Ryuu shouted.
The war elephant charged blindly, its massive weight collapsing the weakened ground beneath it. With a deafening roar, it tumbled forward, its hulking body crashing into a deep chasm.
Darius III, caught off guard, was thrown from his mount, landing hard on the pavement.
"Now, Caster!" Ryuu commanded.
Cú Chulainn grinned. "Got it! Wicker Man—Burning Pyre of the Damned!"
A massive spectral figure formed from intertwining vines, ensnaring Darius III within its grasp. The more he struggled, the tighter the vines constricted.
Ryuu raised his hand, Infernal Dragon's Flame! Black fire erupted around them, merging with the Wicker Man's flames, turning the entire construct into a blazing inferno.
Darius III's roars echoed through the battlefield—then, silence.
The skeletal war elephant and soldiers disintegrated, vanishing into golden dust.
Ryuu exhaled. "Another one down."
A system prompt echoed in his mind:
"Ding! Congratulations, host! You have defeated Servant Rider. 1000 Demon King Points awarded."
The notification brought a satisfied smirk to Ryuu's lips. The two collapsed onto the ground, catching their breath.
"Man, that was tough," Cú Chulainn groaned. "If Rider was this bad, how the hell do we take down Saber?"
Ryuu sat up. "Even if she has the Holy Grail, Saber isn't invincible."
Cú Chulainn scoffed. "You sure? I kinda miss having my Gáe Bolg right now. This mage stuff ain't my style."
Before Ryuu could reply, a crimson light streaked toward them, slamming into the ground with a thunderous boom.
"Son of a—again!?" Cú Chulainn growled.
A familiar figure emerged from the smoke, his red cloak billowing in the wind.
Ryuu smirked. "Took you long enough, Archer."
Archer, the Heroic Spirit, Emiya, stood tall, twin swords in hand. "I'm not here to fight."
"Then what's with the fireworks?" Ryuu quipped.
Archer's expression remained cold. "Saber asked me to deliver a message. She will be waiting for you at the Great Grail's chamber beneath Mount Enzō."
Ryuu's eyes narrowed. So Saber finally makes her move. "She said 'you'—as in me specifically, or both of us?"
Archer hesitated for a moment. "You'll find out when you get there."
Without another word, Archer vanished into the night.
Cú Chulainn spat on the ground. "That guy pisses me off."
Ryuu chuckled. "You and everyone else."
"So? Are we going?"
Ryuu shook his head. "Not yet. There are still Servants left, and I'm not passing up free Demon King Points."
Cú Chulainn sighed. "You're seriously farming this world for points?"
"Hey, gotta power up somehow."
As the two warriors left the battlefield, the gears of fate continued turning.
Far away, in the year 2015, an explosion rocked Chaldea.
The world's final Master had been chosen.
And the true battle was about to begin.
