Chapter 228: Chapter 228-266
[Gray's her hometown is a small, isolated village on the "Grave of Blackmore", Blackmore being one of the 27 dead apostle ancestors in the Tsukihime timeline, but in the Fate one he apparently died even before Arthurian times. Blackmore doesn't come up that much, but it makes the graveyard a hot spiritual spot, and the gravekeeper was Gray's first master. In any event, her village has passed on a couple of relics of Artoria in the same way that Bazett's family held on to Fragarach, and they both know the truth of Artoria being a woman and kind of low key worship her in a quiet way that wouldn't get the Holy Church to come after them.
Part of all this is that they're hooked on the legend that King Arthur will one day return to save Britain in its hour of need, and have long since been working on a ritual to try and reincarnate or copy Artoria. They had mostly given up on it and only spoken about it in traditions and folktales, but that changed ten years ago when Gray's appearance suddenly changed to be a splitting image of Artoria. Having to do with Saber being summoned in the 4th Holy Grail War. Gray's transformation energized the village elders and made them look seriously on the plan to bring back King Arthur. They started regulating Gray's lifestyle to the finest detail to try and increase her compatibilty as much as they could.
In the Nasuverse people are made up of three components: the body, the mind, and the soul. To remake King Arthur they would need all three. Grey now held the perfect body. Unknown to Gray, in their catacombs they had a sort of mental construct of Artoria, a sort of magecraft Al like the ones in Add or Trimmau that could replicate a personality, but didn't have a soul. The design was a little bit different, but it was implied to be sort of similar to Lancer Artoria Alter in FGO. It would serve as the mind. The last part is the soul, and that was where they got stuck, since manipulating the soul like that requires the third magic. But they were given information from the ongoing case files antagonist about the 4th Holy Grail War and the upcoming 5th, and they decided to bet everything that Artoria would be summoned again and they could intercept her soul coming from the throne of heroes by providing a perfect vessel. So basically they planned to overwrite Gray's personality with the Arturia mental construct as the 5th war began and use it to trap Saber's soul before it could go to Shirou, giving them a perfect Artoria.
There were various other third parties like the church and Zepia from Atlas involved, but Waver visited there before the events of Case Files in the hopes of borrowing one of the gravekeepers of Blackmoore. They're famed anti-spirit specialists, and he hoped they would be a trump card against heroic spirits in the 5th HGW. After a tour of the village and spending a night there, a certain murder happened, and the Blackmoore gravekeeper, Gray's first master, pushed Gray off onto Waver and told them never to return to the village.
Then follows the Atlas contract incident.]
T/N: Basically, more or less what happened. If you're interested, you can read El-Melloi Case Files yourself. This whole thing took around 40 chapters, I felt it was too long for something that's not even the main storyline. I guess this was just a way to get more chapters, but subsequently, I'll be removing things like this that take a lot of chapters and don't have any significance.
If you feel I shouldn't, let me know 🫡.

[The video ends here.]
Iskandar: "Haha, kid, you're overthinking this. Just let it happen naturally."
Waver: "That's just like you."
Tohsaka Rin: "But this video has explained Gray's life story pretty thoroughly."
Sisigou: "Yeah, it's full of twists and turns, even tying in the seven weapons of the Atlas Academy."
[The second question is over, and now we start the last question of today.]
[This is a multiple-choice question. Please look at the following 4 pictures and choose the Heroic Spirit whose class is Caster.]
[Answer the question in 5 minutes. If you choose the correct answer, you will be rewarded with 1 Saint Quartz. If you choose the wrong answer, you will lose 1 Saint Quartz.]
[If you select all correctly, you will receive 5 Saint Quartz as a reward.]
Kayneth: "As expected, this time it's Caster's turn to take the spotlight."
Waver: "I just hope we won't see any more Servants with job descriptions that make no sense."
[A: The picture shows a woman with braided hair and purple eyes, exuding a noble and gentle demeanor. She holds a silver cross-shaped staff and is dressed in a red papal robe.]
Kotomine Risei: "!!!"
Kotomine Kirei: "Well, this is unexpected..."
Tohsaka Rin: "What's with the reaction? Why so shocked?"
Sisigou: "...If I'm not mistaken, isn't the woman in the picture wearing papal attire?"
Waver: "The Pope?"
Tohsaka Rin: "Wait! Was there ever a female Pope?"
Kotomine Risei: "There was, indeed..."
Kotomine Kirei: "According to records, there's a legend about a woman named 'Johannes Anglicus' who supposedly served as Pope from 853 to 855 AD. However, she was later revealed to be a fictional figure created around the 13th century, likely fabricated by critics of the Church. By the 19th century, it was thoroughly debunked as a myth."
Tohsaka Tokiomi: "So, this could be a Heroic Spirit based on someone who never actually existed in history—an invention of a bygone era."
Kayneth: "Assuming this really is her and not some gender-swapped interpretation of another figure."
Kotomine Risei: "That's simply out of the question!"
Waver: "I have to admit, Heroic Spirits truly are mysterious beings."
Tohsaka Rin: "If she's tied to the Pope, then her class must be Caster."
Tohsaka Tokiomi: "Don't jump to conclusions just yet."
[B: This picture shows a young man in a sleeveless top. He has long black hair and tattoos of symbols covering his body. The only thing that seems off is his hands.]
Tohsaka Rin: "Chihiro, do you recognize him?"
Chihiro: "How could I? There's barely any distinguishing features here to identify him!"
