Fate: The Forged Arthur Pendragon

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Detour

The council at the Temple of Artemis concluded.

The great Conqueror Queen ordered her army to spare no effort in bringing about a banquet fit for a king.

Though the Queen paid it no mind, as the council ended, General Parmenion, who had remained silent throughout, volunteered and requested the Conqueror Queen to relieve his son, Hector, of his command as the Third Regiment Leader of the Companion Cavalry and allow him to serve as an ordinary soldier under General Seleucus to atone for his sins.

Hector stepped out of the temple and looked up slightly.

The dark, oppressive sky that blanketed the entire wasteland mirrored his mood.

He understood his father's painstaking efforts and the current situation in Macedon—

The ambitious Conqueror Queen was diligently reorganizing Macedon's military system, establishing her royal authority through a series of conquest wars. His father, Parmenion, an old minister of Philip II and the de facto commander of the Companion Cavalry, was actively cooperating with the Conqueror Queen's reforms.

After all, this Queen was completely different from the old King;

in her wrath, let alone an old minister like his father, the entire world would be strewn with millions of corpses for her sake!

He also understood what a foolish thing he had done—

To become a 'hero,'

he had acknowledged Edoardo's achievements, brought about the miracle's advent, and at the same time, made an oath against the Queen's authority over Edoardo's remains.

"I shall spread your heroic spirit, proclaim your deeds, and bestow upon you glory!"

"I shall honor your dying wish, collect your remains, and return them to your homeland!"

The oath itself was not problematic, but the crucial point was that the miracle pointed not to the deceased Edoardo, but to the British King.

The most critical issue was,

that fellow wasn't dead yet!

In a very abstract sense, Hector had placed himself in the position of Sir Bedivere from the 'King Arthur Legend,' who returned Excalibur to King Arthur and buried him after the Battle of Camlann, becoming the non-existent third 'burial knight.'

Before Su Ya died, he had to complete the first half of the oath, which, as Callisthenes had said, was almost indistinguishable from pledging allegiance to Su Ya.

That was why Callisthenes had mocked him as 'the Knight of Britain.'

But,

But,

Despite understanding all of this,

Hector still couldn't let go.

As a semi-hero, if he couldn't become a true 'hero' in the terrifying war to come, then even if his father was Macedon's foremost minister, and even if he himself had possessed countless advantages since birth,

when the Conqueror Queen's chariot truly began its final journey,

Facing the impending bloody battles, such a 'weak' self,

had only one path: to be crushed into dust!

Thinking of this, Hector exhaled deeply and descended the temple steps with a gloomy face.

"Regiment Commander!"

"Regiment Commander!"

As soon as he stepped out, Sir Wulfwin and Sir Lars approached, looking at Hector with concern.

Hector lowered his head and waved his hand dejectedly: "Don't call me that anymore. Now, I am just an ordinary Macedonian soldier."

Seeing this, Wulfwin and Lars exchanged glances for a moment, then immediately knelt on one knee, bowed their heads, and loudly declared:

"Knight Hector, even if you are no longer the Regiment Commander of the Companion Cavalry, you are still the master we swear allegiance to!"

Hector nodded, exhaled deeply, and asked gravely:

"How about the direction of those people I asked you to investigate?"

Wulfwin immediately replied: "We've sent scouts to confirm their direction and also sent men to sabotage one of the main roads. We've also notified the Lycaean magicians as per your instructions."

"If their journey proceeds normally, within three days, they are bound to encounter the magic team we've arranged at Pandenburgh, in front of Sol City, where they've set up their workshop!"

At this point, Sir Wulfwin's face showed a hint of worry as he spoke:

"However, with Sir Ector's protection, I'm afraid those people won't be able to stop them."

Hector finally heard some good news, his tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly, and he let out a cold laugh,

"Excellent, then there's no problem!"

It was originally just a casual move, but who knew he would learn from the King that Sir Ector was actually a fake.

Then, with what Hector knew about the capabilities of that squad specializing in hunting down professionals hiding in the army,

Once the two sides met,

that damned brat who deceived him, led him to his current predicament, and forced him to swear allegiance—

Would surely die!

Theoretically, under normal circumstances, Su Ya and his group would indeed run into Hector's trap in three days.

However,

Back on Su Ya's side, eight hours after the weary knights left Sir Ector's manor, they encountered an immediate problem—

"What did you say?"

"No food left?"

"And, that brat isn't... His Majesty is hungry again?!"

In the makeshift camp,

Lucan stared at Merlin, who had come to find him, asking incredulously:

"Didn't we find two warehouses full of stored food at the manor? And we've had water all along the way. Even if we could only take one warehouse of food, it should have been enough for half a month, right?"

Merlin shook her head and corrected him: "In fact, a whole warehouse of food was already consumed at the manor."

"The food we have now is indeed enough for the knights for half a month, but—"

Merlin pointed to the cavalrymen not far away, who had transformed from a knight order into a cooking team, bustling around, and Su Ya, sitting obediently at a small round table, waiting to be fed.

He even elegantly tied a napkin.

Merlin's face darkened, and she said heavily: "But that's just one meal for him!"

"If this continues, we'll all starve for six whole days before we even reach Sol City!"

At this point, Merlin glared indignantly at Lucan, pointing her index finger at his nose and demanding:

"Lucan, what exactly did you teach him this morning?"

"Why did you open this Pandora's Box!"

Hearing this, Lucan was stunned, his mouth slightly agape,

"You mean, he alone ate half a month's worth of food for a cavalry regiment in one meal!?"

He had thought the frightening scene this morning would consume a lot of food, but he never expected the number to be so exaggerated.

What kind of glutton is this?!

"No matter what, Lucan, this is all your doing. Don't expect me to help you. I'm only responsible for training these cavalrymen into cooks. As for feeding His Majesty, you must take responsibility!"

Merlin snorted coldly and walked away.

"Asking me to work overtime? Absolutely impossible!"

Hearing this,

a bead of cold sweat trickled down Lucan's forehead
