As the ambush tightened, Razor, seething with grief and fury, tore into the Parademons with raw, relentless power. Blue energy crackled from his ring as he blasted through the horde, blinded by his need to strike down anything that dared stand in his path. Saint Walker quickly realized the trap at play, recognizing the tactical nature of the assault.
"Warth, Hynn, flank the enemy," Walker ordered, his voice steady yet urgent. "Sercy, stay back and protect the others. Keep vigilant—there could be more lying in wait."
"Understood, Brother Walker," Warth nodded, his tone solemn as he moved into position.
Walker turned to the others, his gaze filled with conviction. "Stay alive. And remember—we're in this together."
But Razor was already deep within enemy lines, his attacks tearing through Parademons with brutal efficiency. At the edge of the swarm, he reached what seemed to be the last of them, but a whisper of movement caught his eye. He twisted, but Kanto was already there—his blade aimed with lethal precision at Razor's back.
A burst of blue light deflected the strike just in time, as Walker materialized beside him, intercepting the deadly blow. Kanto's eyes narrowed, but a sly smile crept across his face. "Saint Walker. A pleasure to see you join the fray."
Walker didn't respond with words; his stance spoke volumes. He stepped forward, summoning a shimmering blue shield and drawing Razor back. "Stay focused, Razor. He's not like the others."
But Razor's rage was barely contained, his fists clenched tight. "He killed Shon, Walker! He's going to pay for that." Without waiting, Razor lunged, aiming a powerful punch at Kanto.
Kanto dodged effortlessly, his movements swift and graceful, almost as if he were dancing around Razor's attacks. With expert precision, he countered, striking Razor's arm and torso in a series of quick blows, but Razor refused to relent. Walker joined the attack, coordinating his strikes with Razor's, each blow intended to close off Kanto's movements. But Kanto remained elusive, slipping through their defenses with unnerving ease.
Razor's attacks grew more frenzied, each strike infused with the fierce blue light of hope and tinged with unyielding rage. "Stop running and fight me!"
"Oh, I am fighting you," Kanto replied, his tone mocking as he sidestepped another of Razor's attacks. With a sudden twist, he spun toward Walker, his blade flashing as he aimed for a weak point. Walker parried, but the force sent him stumbling back, forcing him to draw on his limited reserves of power.
Razor's frustration boiled over. "You coward!"
"Calm yourself!" Walker urged, trying to ground him, "Follow my lead!"
As Walker and Razor launched into their coordinated assault, Kanto began his counterattack with chilling precision. Every move from Kanto was a masterclass in combat; he read their stances, anticipated their strikes, and attacked with ruthless efficiency. Razor threw a fierce punch, but Kanto evaded, slipping just out of range before retaliating with a vicious elbow to Razor's ribs, sending him stumbling back.
Walker immediately stepped in, aiming a powerful blast of blue energy, but Kanto deflected it with a flick of his wrist, his armor barely scorched. He closed in on Walker, his movements fluid yet devastating. In an instant, he twisted Walker's arm, wrenching it painfully behind his back, and delivered a swift kick to Walker's knee, buckling it and sending him down.
Kanto sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "Is this all the Lantern Corps has to offer? I was hoping for more of a challenge."
Razor, his face twisted with rage, charged back into the fray, unleashing a barrage of energy blasts. Kanto dodged effortlessly, weaving through the attacks with almost playful ease. Then, with a sidestep and a brutal punch to Razor's stomach, he forced him to double over, gasping for air. Kanto followed up with a sharp strike to Razor's jaw, sending him sprawling across the battlefield.
Walker rose again, summoning all his willpower to launch a powerful shield of blue light, hoping to pin Kanto down. But Kanto merely laughed, slipping out of the trap and darting behind Walker with impossible speed. His hand shot forward, striking a nerve point at Walker's shoulder, sending a wave of numbing pain through him and forcing him to drop his defenses.
"You two are just as weak as the last Lantern I killed," Kanto taunted, his eyes glinting with cold amusement as he toyed with them, savoring their pain and struggle.
Walker struggled to regain his footing, blood trickling from his mouth as he gasped, "You won't… get away with this."
"Oh, I already have," Kanto replied smoothly, his blade flashing as he slashed at Walker, who barely managed to deflect the blow with a flickering shield. Razor, watching his comrade suffer, gritted his teeth, his rage swelling to an unbearable intensity.
"You… you're going to pay for that!" Razor spat, charging at Kanto once more, his fists blazing with blue energy. But Kanto countered with terrifying skill, catching Razor's wrist mid-swing and twisting it, forcing him to his knees.
"You really think brute force can save you?" Kanto taunted, driving a knee into Razor's chest, each strike calculated to break down his defenses and shatter his will. and then a kick sending him flying away
Walker struggled to his feet, pushing back his pain. "Stay calm, Razor! Focus!"
Suddenly, Razor rushed forward, abandoning his defense, attacking with reckless abandon. Kanto saw his opening and struck, his blade piercing Razor's side in a swift, deadly thrust. Razor gasped, feeling the pain shoot through him, yet he didn't falter. His chest heaved as a strange, overwhelming power began to rise within him.
Then, in an instant, a surge of crimson erupted from his other hand as a new ring—glowing red with seething rage—materialized. The ring slid onto his hand, merging with the blue of hope on the opposite hand. Razor's eyes burned with both the intense red of wrath and the cool blue of hope, creating a swirling, chaotic energy that pulsed through him.
The light from the two rings exploded outward, shattering Kanto's stance as Razor's power ascended. He looked down at Kanto with fury burning in his eyes, his voice low and filled with resolve. "You took my friend, and now you're going to pay for it."
Kanto moved to attack, but Razor was faster. His newfound power overwhelmed Kanto's defenses, each strike fueled by the unyielding hope of the Blue Lantern and the primal rage of the Red. Kanto barely managed to block the first few blows, but as Razor's relentless assault continued, his defenses began to crack.
The assassin's smirk faded as Razor's power intensified, each punch sending shockwaves through the battlefield. Walker watched, awe-stricken, as Razor—now wielding the dual forces of Hope and Rage—pounded Kanto with a fury that couldn't be countered; Walker's eyes widened as he saw the transformation. "Razor… you—"
Razor finally delivered a brutal finishing blow, sending Kanto crashing to the ground. The assassin attempted to rise, but Razor's glare pinned him in place. Summoning the last of his energy, Razor raised his fists, then brought them down with the full force of his combined rings, ending Kanto in a single, final strike.
As Kanto's form stilled, Razor's shoulders heaved, his dual-colored aura dimming as exhaustion claimed him. He stumbled, collapsing to his knees as his vision blurred. In his mind, a flickering image of Shon's smile appeared, bittersweet and haunting. With a heavy heart, he whispered, "This one's... for you, Shon."
As the dust settled and the battlefield lay quiet, the Blue Lanterns gathered around Razor, their faces etched with a mix of pride and sorrow. Shon's absence weighed heavily on them, but his dream of a peaceful world felt closer now, carried in their hearts by the sacrifice and courage they'd witnessed.
Walker stepped forward first, wrapping his arms around Razor in a silent embrace, followed by Warth, his tusked face solemn as he placed a comforting hand on Razor's shoulder. Sercy and Hynn joined them, pulling Razor into a tight, collective hug, each member lending their strength and warmth to their grieving brother.
"We will carry his light forward," Sercy whispered, her voice gentle but unwavering. "For Shon, and for everyone who believes in a better world."
Warth's deep voice rumbled as he tightened his embrace. "Hope will guide us, Razor. Together, we'll make the world Shon dreamed of."
Hynn nodded, his usually stoic expression softened with respect. "We'll honor his memory with every step forward."
Walker, still holding Razor, looked into his eyes with resolve. "We'll never let his sacrifice be in vain. Together, we'll create the peace he fought for. You have my word, Razor."
Razor, his red ring now faded to a faint glimmer, closed his eyes, feeling the weight of their words. Surrounded by the warmth of his comrades, he allowed himself a moment of vulnerability, taking in the shared strength of his fellow Blue Lanterns. He breathed deeply, nodding as he found solace in their support.
"For Shon," he said softly, a renewed light in his voice. "For the peace he wanted for all of us."
