Chapter 18: Dealing With Boredom [2]
You'd think that playing Uno with Gilgamesh of all people would make anyone nervous.
Well, You'd be right. But, after reminding myself that the only thing he has that can hurt me is most likely just Ea, it helped me calm down.
"I change the colour to green," I say as I throw in the colour changing card.
"A valiant effort but useless. I have many of those," Gilgamesh said as he threw a green .
Me, Gilgamesh, and Enkidu were at the throne room playing while sitting on the ground. Since paper and cards were obviously not invented yet, we were using big leaves that I grew that were colored with paint from Gilgamesh's Gates of Babylon.
How and why did he have paint there? I had no idea and no intention of finding out.
A few guards and servants passed by and just looked at us in confusion and bewilderment before walking away. I'm pretty sure I saw Siduri shake her head while doing that.
Anyway, back to the current situation, I made sure to establish all the rules before we started just to make sure that Gilgamesh doesn't say something like I made them up halfway through or that I was cheating.
At first, he wasn't that interested and was obviously playing out of boredom. But, the as the game went on, he seemed to get more competitive.
"Skip your turn, Zack," Enkidu said throwing his card. "Goddammit," I grumbled as I held my last two cards.
"And with this I achieve victory!" Gilgamesh said throwing his last card from his hand. He stood up and spread his hands wide. "While you two put up a fight, it was no match for my skills!" He declared, sounding like he just won a battle.
Enkidu smiles and I had to hold in a chuckle because I knew he'd be angry that I laughed at him.
Honestly, with all his arrogance, boasting, and anger issues, people tend to forget how young Gilgamesh still is. He gets bored and wants to have fun just like everyone else.
It's just that his idea of 'fun' is a little... off.
"Alright, let's set up for the second round," I said gathering the leaves.
"Humph, if you desire to taste defeat again at my hands, so be it," and with that Gilgamesh sat back down and we started shuffling.
It was honestly rather refreshing to see this side of Gilgamesh. I knew he had it, obviously, but I also knew that it was mostly preserved for Enkidu to see. So, seeing it for myself was a treat.
"Skip your turn, Gilgamesh, also Uno," I said as I held my last card and stopped Gilgamesh from winning again. "Damn you, Tree," Gilgamesh growled as he held his last card, most likely was about to win if I hadn't made him Skip.
"Don't worry, Gil, I won't let him get off easily," Enkidu said before throwing a wild-card. "I change the colour to red."
It was a good try, but unfortunately... "Hey, Gilgamesh, try guessing the card I have left?" I asked him which made him raise an eyebrow. "I'll give you a hint, it's not any of the four colours, nor a wild card."
It didn't take him long to realise which card was my
last. "No..."
"Yes," I chuckled.
"Are you really that heartless?" Enkidu asked in faux distress.
I guess he's caught in the atmosphere. I turned to my water element and looked at him. "As you can see, I have no heart," I said motioning to my transparent chest.
"Tree, don't you dare!" Gilgamesh threatened me with a glare.
However, I just gave him a challenging look, raised my hand... and slapped my last card on the pile. "Draw fou-"
"YOU LITTLE-!"
And that's how Gilgamesh became the first king in history to start swearing like a sailor.
It wasn't even a week before the guards and servants got used to the sound of splashing water as Gilgamesh's weapons kept passing through my water form for one reason or another.
