Chapter 24: Windy Weather [2]
What's your usual reaction to getting something new? Obviously, show it off to your friends.
"Fascinating," Enkidu said as he walked around me, looking over my new wind form.
I was back in Uruk by the next day, and the first thing I did was go to the castle and show Gilgamesh - who was done with his work and less annoyed, -thankfully- and Enkidu my new element.
"You said you had the ability to gain new elements by interacting with them?" Enkidu asked, recalling my quick explanation.
"That's right," I said with a nod, my voice being slightly different than usual.
My voice in my wind element sounded a little hoarse and like I was putting too much air into speaking, which isn't really a surprise.
"Truly interesting," Enkidu rubbed a hand on his chin.
"Normal elementals require a great deal of effort to change their core element. Yet, you did it through simple interaction. You really are the elements given a conscious, aren't you?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "Can't tell you. I still haven't figured out exactly what I am," I replied.
"So, now you can turn yourself to into a pile of wind?" Gilgamesh commented while crossing his arms.
"What am I supposed to be impressive in this regard? Were you supposed to amaze me by creating a breeze in the hot summer?"
"You're just jealous that I actually got something new but you didn't," I said back.
"Jealous?" Gilgamesh scoffed and narrowed his eyes.
"What reason do I have to be jealous? I have all this world's treasures."
"Ah, but do you have the ability to turn to air? I don't think so," I gloated, putting my hands on my waist and puffing my chest.
Was it petty and childish? Absolutely. Did either of me or Gilgamesh care? Apparently not.
"Humph, you still have not found a use for that new form, Tree," Gilgamesh grunted, looking less and less patient.
"I actually have a few ideas for that, but first, you might want to back off a few steps," I said as Gilgamesh and Enkidu raised an eyebrow each before complying.
"What do you have in mind?" Enkidu asked.
"I honestly do have an idea on how to help with this new element, but I want to first test if it can grant me a certain ability," I explained before looking at my hands. "That ability being flight."
Interest was sparked in their eyes as they looked on to me and what I was doing.
I closed my eyes and focused. I started feeling the air around me and tried my hardest to focus on that.
The sound of wind began picking up slowly. I kept focusing and the change only became apparent after a few minutes when I began feeling my feet being lifted off the ground.
(It's working!) I cried out in my head. (I'm flyi-)
I didn't even get to finish that though as the wind suddenly exploded violently in random directions... which sent me hurling towards one of the castle walls. I obviously wasn't hurt, being made of wind and all, but I still smacked pretty hard, and the sound was probably heard all over the castle followed by the sound of me dropping on the ground from the wall.
There was utter silence for a moment... "FUFUHAHAHAHA!!!" Until it was broken by Gilgamesh's howling laughter.
