Flame and Crimson: OC x Ruby (DBXV x RWBY)

Hey Guys! I'm back with a new chapter. Last chapter briefly recapped what the different group were up to during the 3( or 4 in this story lol) month time skip. This chapter will get volume 4's story rolling as last 2 chapters were just wrapping up the fall of beacon and the aftermath of it.

The war between the Dark Elves and Atlas will come into play in some capacity during this volume, it just may not be highlighted or expounded upon. For now, just assume it is still raging during the travels of our cast. Also, the devils will be making their first appearances to even further complicate things in this volume. Ruby's abilities as she's changing into an elf will rear its head... eventually in this story, just not sure when is a good time for them to revealed yet lol. So the timing may be kinda random.

Anyways, I've gone over several options of pairings for Hailfire and I've determined that Sun is out of the running. This mainly is because he'll end up with another female character that i think is the better option for him. Below is a list of possible pairings for Hailfire, feel free to vote for which one you guys think is best:

Anyways, that's  it for now, onto the story!

Opening:



Opening theme: Hibana (Tales of Arise opening 1)

Visuals: Starts out showing Odyn walking forward with Ruby following behind him as it pans up to the sky upon showing the title card: Flame and Crimson. The screen briefly goes to a shot of Odyn's hands before cutting to field surrounded in flames. Ruby looks up to the sky as the silhouettes of her family members are seen walking in the background of her mind. The camera then pans to Odyn reaching a hand towards Ruby, who accepts it as the they walk forward. The camera then pans to others within the group of friends, ranging from Khanna and Mercury fighting off Grimm, to Syrrai and Jaune training as they clash swords. Roy and Yang are seen sparring before she falls to the ground frustrated with herself momentarily before Roy offers a hand to help her up to her feet. It then pans to several lights, representing the group of friends. Odyn reaches out towards Ruby and the two of them grab hands before standing back to back with their weapons drawn. The dark elf then draws his blade as he rushes towards a giant Grimm. After slashing it, a few times and dodging it with Roy accompanying him. They're saved by a shot from Ruby's sniper scythe. The scene then pans to Baron and Flare fighting off a wyvern Grimm with Blake, Shallot, Yang, and Sun helping. As the beast closed in, Syrrai rushes in and knocks back the beast with an Arte from her shield. This opened up things for Daikon to blast the beast away. Odyn is then seen to be clashing swords with someone in dark armor briefly before both gain distance and charge in again for a final clash. The clash causes the screen to go white, fading into a field where everyone meets and walks off towards mistral together.

Chapter 28: Future Steps part 1

The screen comes up to a blue sky above a green forrest as foot steps  are heard on the groumd of the forrest floor. These foot steps belong to a group of friends, teenagers heading on a long journey. It is revealed to be the group of Jaune, Syrrai,  Ren, Nora, Ruby, and Odyn walking along a dirt road with trees surrounding them as they are heading towards Mistral.

Nora Valkyrie, the hyperactive ginger of the group, is heard talking.

"I'm just sayin', it only makes sense to name us that...", Nora is heard saying.

Ren, who is seen next to her, just listens as Nora states her case about something.

"Think about it, Ren. There are more members of JNPR than there are of RWBY in our group right now. It just makes the most sense to go with that one!" Nora continued.

Ruby turns to her boyfriend and speaks her mind.

"So uh... any idea what they're talking about, Odyn?," Ruby asked.

Odyn smiled and chuckled as he answered with a little bit of a tear running down the back of his head.

"😅 I think... it involves something about a team name perhaps? I'm not really sure, I don't speak "Nora".," the  blue haired dark elf answered sweatdropping.

Ren is then heard countering his friend's argument.

" But "Juniorr" isn't a real color, Nora...," Ren replied.

Nora is seen groaning in frustration at this as she speaks up again.

"Ugh, how can I be any more clear?," Nora responded with a groan of frustration.

Nora puts out her hand and the letters JNPRRO appear above them as she uses three fingers to point out the first 4 letters of JNPR to illustrate her point.

"One! Two!, Three!, Four! That's more than one.," Nora replied back as she pointed to the R of Ruby's name.

Sarai (Syrrai) then looked towards Jaune perplexed at where this conversation between Ren and Nora was going.

"Umm... 😅 do you even know what they're arguing about anymore, Jaune?" Syrrha asked sweatdropping.

Jaune was also confused, but was trying to figure out their location too. He decided to add his two cents into the conversation while trying to figure out where they were exactly.

"I'm not even sure myself to be honest Sarai. Also, JNRSRO sounds so much cooler.," Jaune said.

Nora turned to Ren with a look that said : "I told you so!" Just then. Sarai sighed as she mentally facepalmed herself.

"Jaune, don't encourage them please...," Sarai said slightly groaning in annoyance.

Jaune laughs nervously and then relents.

"R-Right, Sorry Sarai..," Jaune says apologizing.

The ground then rumbles causing the group of teens to become alert. Sarai gains a determined look as she then speaks to the group.

"It's here.," she says.

Odyn then speaks up.

"Everyone, ready youresleves that "thing" is coming and will be here any second!," Odyn said.

The teens then ready themselves for their eventual quarry coming to them.

Small time skip...

The scene then switches to a view of Ruby Rose  flying backwards from trees, firing Crescent Rose in the direction she came from.

A collection of floating boulders with a Grimm mask moving the trees out of the way behind it is seen. It's ssen to be clearly chasing her. Ruby doesn't pay attention to where she's going and ends up crashing right into Odyn as the two end up on the ground. The girl is seen rubbing her backside in pain and slight discomfort.

"Really.. bad... landing.. strategy!," Ruby said before feeling something behind her.

Looking behind her, she recognized that it was her boyfriend who broke her fall. Smiling she thanked him.

"Thanks for the save, Odyn!," She said with a smile.

He nodded back to her with a smile before he was seen to be blushing due to the position they were in.

"Y-Yeah no problem, little Rose. Byt uh... you think you could stand up now? I really don't want the others to be getting the wrong idea about us here.,"Odyn asked slightly embarrassed.

Ruby looks and also goes red in the face upon seeing how their positioned. She shoots to her feet before apologizing.

"Wah! S-Sorry Odyn!," Ruby said blushing before refocusing on the battle in front of her.

"Not to worry, little rose, just be more careful next time. And... try not to be so reckless..," Odyn said.

Refocusing, Ruby then uses her Semblance to fly past the Grimm. Odyn kept pace with her, supporting her by using his magic to cover for her.

Jaune, Ren, and Nora look up as Jaune shouts an order.

"Let's get that thing off of them.",Jaune ordered.

Jaune blasts off towards the grimm, his energy blazing wildly around him, while Ren jumps into the tree nearest to them.

Nora then shouts to het the Grimm's attention.

"Don't forget about me!," Nora yells pulling out her dust weapon, Magnhild, shooting it at the ground.

She uses the force from the shots of her dust weapon to propel herself into the air with excited whooping before landing next to Ren on his tree branch.

"We need to draw its attention away from Ruby!," Ren said.

Ruby is still seen flying around the grimm as it constantly swipes at her, one time barely missing due to Odyn snatching his girlfriend away from the intended blow.

She laughed nervously at this, not meaning for Odyn to have to bail her out.

"Sorry Odyn!"

He sighed and chuckled.

"It's not a problem. What am I going to do with such a reckless young woman as my fiancée?," Odyn said aloud.

Ruby looked him in response and said the first thing that came to mind. However, she couldn't even stop the words spilling from her mouth before she knew what happened.

"Marry me, that's what!," Ruby said.

This caused Odyn to blush before he cleared his throat.

"A-Ahem! I'm happy you feel that way, but let's focus on the task at hand first. We can.. see about that ceremony once things calm down a little bit.," He said still blushing.

It was only a moment later that Ruby's words finally caught up to her as she was now blushing and if one looked closely, they could see steam rising from the girl's head.

She refocuses and takes to the air once again, looking for a good vantage point. She's once again dodging swipes from the Grimm, while Odyn attack it with light magic, unfortunately it doesn't really do anything other than make the creatures chase after him now.

"Could use a little help over here!," Odyn said looking towards his friends.

Nora shoots it in the back, distracting  it briefly. This is while Ren runs up the length of its rock arm and comes down on it with stormflower, his dust weapon. This doesn't even scratch it.

"We gotta get closer guys!," Jaune called after he struck it multiple times to no effect.

"How though? My blades don't even scratch him!," Ren asked confused and a little frustrated.

Sarai is seen to be striking it, succeeding in knocking it back at least.

"Tch! This guy's getting a little annoying..," she said.

The Grimm turns, standing upright.

"Ah...," Odyn started.

"Crapbaskets!", Nora finished a little panicked.

Ruby was wracking her brain of how to hurt it when she got an idea, hopefully it'd work. Taking a clip out of her belt with an image of a bolt on it, she inserted it into her sniper scythe. Before firing, she channeled abit of mana into it silently.

"How about this then?!," Ruby said firing a lightning type dust bullet at the grimm.

The bullet strikes the grimm as it is paralayzed momentarily. Sarai sees this and seized the opportunity.

"Nice work, Ruby! LIGHTNING BLADE!," Sarai said swinging her sword.

Her blade was coated with lightning as she then severed the paralayzed arm. The creatured roared in pain as the red lines then grew brighter on it's free arm before it slammed it onto the ground sending everyone flying back. The teens recovered quickly as they readied themselves for another attack from it.

She looks to Jaune and nods at him.

"Just like we practiced.," She said smiling at him.

He nodded and rocketed forward, followed by the others. Nora flew past them, shifting her weapon back into hammer form obviously mad.

"That's it!", Nora said angry.

She jumps into the air and hits it, breaking its arm apart. A large piece flies straight toward Nora, but Ruby gets between them and knocks it away. However, something happened that no one was expecting: the Grimm's arm regenerated!

"Okay... that's new.," Odyn said before joining the others.

The Grimm then uses it's newly regenerated arm to strike at the two girls. Jaune then has to stop as he suddenly has to dodge a barrage of rocks coming towards him.

"Wha? Whoa! Wha? Ho!," Jaune cries as he is seen to be comincally dodging the rocks heading towards him. "Hey! Careful!"

A rock the size of his head then heads towards him as he gains a determined look before smashing the rock to bits after infusing his fist with Ki energy. Off to the side, Sarai or the "new" Pyrrha was seen to be smiling at the blonde knight, he'd come a long way in their training together. No longer was he the scared, undecisive, man he was almost half a year ago.

If Pyrrha's "death" taught him anything, it was that he was far too weak and indecisive.  He needed to be stronger, more confident in order to protect those dearest to him. He would never be weak again, as long as he could help it at least.

Back with the others, The grimm is contantly trying and failing to hit an evasive Nora. While it was focusing on her, it was constantly being blitzed and bombarded by attack from Odyn, Sarai, Ren, Jaune, and Ruby.

Jaune paused his assault and observed the Grimm.

"Ah..." He said noticing something.

The Grimm's armless shoulder gains a glowing red circle with a symbol of an eye in the middle. The circle spins, and then a black, elongated arm with clawed fingers emerges from it. The arm rears back.

"Oh boy..." The blonde said.

The Grimm shoves its new arm into the tree Jaune was leaning against and lifts it from the ground.

"Big Mistake!," Ruby says switching the clip to one having a fire symbol on it.

She fired it at the Grimm's new arm, setting it ablaze upon the bullet's contact with it. Jaune fist pumps. The tree arm swings around to him, on fire. Jaune loses his smile.

Jaune then blasts away from it, The Grimm chasing him.

"Big Mistake!," Jaune says retreating from it.

The Grimm chases Jaune, swinging the flaming arm at him. It misses twice, but then Jaune falls. One of StormFlower spins through the air and makes a cut across the Grimm's mask. The Grimm falls.

The others notice this as they take note of the Grimm's behavior. Thy gather together, discussing their next move briefly.

"Alright, so how do we take it down guys?," Odyn asked.

"His body's too hard to break through.," Ren said.

"It doesn't seem to care about it's body.," Jaune said.

"Plus, it can keep grabbing new limbs or.. regenerating old ones!," Nora added.

"It does seem as though it protects its face alot.," Sarai said.

"We can't break it though!," Ruby said.

"Ugh, if only we knocked all of its limbs off at the same time..," Jaune said frustrated.

Odyn's eyes widened.

"Wait Jaune, what'd you just say?," He asked.

Confused Jaune raised an eyebrow before repating his answer.

"If we knocked all of its limbs off at the same time..?," Jaune said confused before he suddenly realized they had the answer.

"That's it! We just need to hit it, not harder, but at the same time.," Odyn said starting to explain.

Jaune caught on and finished his explanation .

"That way, once it's limbs are killed, we can focus on the core of the Grimm.," Jaune said in realization.

Ruby was confused. Was it really that simple?

"Is that all we have to do?", she asked.

Jaune nodded as Odyn explained their realization of its movements.

"He's Right, Little Rose. If we kill all of the limbs at the same time... " He trailed off waiting for her to catch on.

That moment came as her eyes lit up in realization.

"Then we can kill the whole thing?," She asked finishing the thought.

Odyn nodded. He looked to the other teens.

"Alright guys, you all know what to do.," Odyn said.

The teens nodded in agreement.

"Right, let's do this guys!," Ruby bellowed.

"Yeah!," Nora shouted in agreement.

"Right!," Ren said in agreement.

"Alright... Nora, left! Ruby, Right! Sarai, with Nora! Odyn.. back me up!," Jaune said directing the others to their spots.

He then turns to Nora briefly.

"Nora, ready to try out the new upgrade?," Jaune asked.

"Right, and I will-!," Jaune starts to say before an arm comes towards him to attack.

Odyn jumps in front of Jaune and blocks the arm of the Grimm as he holds it in place.

"You were saying, Jaune? You need to pay more attention.," Odyn said towards him.

He laughed nervously as he nods in agreement.

"Noted, Odyn. Ha ha, thanks for the save. I'll pay more attention going forward.," He replied.

A group of Ren, Sarai, and Nora are attacking the left side of The Grimm while a group of Ruby and Odyn attack the right side. More like a clone of Odyn was helping Ruby while the real Odyn was backing up Jaune at the moment.

Nora is seen to be activating a mechanism that generates a current of electricity across the hammerhead of Magnhild. Jaune runs around to make himself a target, waving at the Grimm.

The Grimm then goes after Jaune, but switches targets as Ruby, Ren, Sarai, and Odyn all attack it. Meanwhile, Nora is charging Magnhild even more with electricity as she then braces her feet.

Nora then smiles towards them.

"Ready!," the girl says.

Jaune nods towards her.

"Use everything you've got!," he said.

Ruby uses her Semblance to fly at the Grimm, taking Nora with her, and the red and pink swirls go right for the tree arm. Ruby slices the tree in half, opening the way for Nora to hit the mask with Magnhild. The rock body shatters and the ephemeral Grimm rises out of it and flies off.

Odyn shouts towards Ruby, encouraging the girl.

"Do it now Ruby, finish it!," Odyn encouraged his girlfriend.

Ruby nods and smiles before aiming a shot at the Grimm. The creature turns its face right into the flaming projectile as the camera shifts to a wide shit of birds scattering due to the explosion that occurred in the forest. 

Jaune stretches and sighs in slight exhaustion before proclaiming victory.

"Great job guys! Another victory for Team JNSRO!," He shouts.

Sarai then gives him a bit of a dry look.

"Then again... on second thought, I guess it doesn't really matter if we have a team name or not, heh heh.," Jaune said laughing nervously.

Sarai just sighed and chuckled with an amused look on her face, she couldn't stay mad at Jaune very long. This was most likely due to Pyrrha's influence on her soul since the two of them fused to become a single person now.

The scene transitions to Ruby shaking the hand of the town mayor with Odyn and the others behind them.

"We can't thank you enough for ridding us of that creature.," The mayor said thanking them.

"Just doing our job sir.," Ruby replied.

The mayor spoke again.

"That Geist had been plaguing our village for weeks. We were beginning to wonder if we'd have to relocate.,"

Ruby then spoke up again.

"Well, we are on our way to Mistral. You could always come along with us if you don't feel safe." Ruby offered.

Scenes of the idyllic life in the village are shown: people buying fresh produce from a cart, standing and chatting on open balconies overlooking the roads, tending to their horses and generally going about their daily lives peacefully. The village has plentiful trees and green spaces and cobbled roads.

The mayor allows an amused chuckle to escape his mouth as he reponded to the offer.

"Ha. I take it you're not from these parts. Anima is a large continent. I'm afraid our people would never survive the long trek to Mistral. It may be safer in the Kingdoms, but we prefer our way of life. I just wish we could pay you more."

Odyn then spoke up.

"Please sir, our previous arrangement is more than enough payment for this. Right guys?," Odyn said before looking to the other teens.

"It is as he says sir.," Ren said.

"Helping others is what huntsmen and Huntresses do. If we can help others along the way to our destination, it's a win win I'd say." Sarai said.

"We were just glad to be of service, sir.," Jaune said modestly.

The teens then walked out of the building and along the streets conversing about the day's events so far as they came to a certain shop. They did have to get going, but first... Jaune's armor could use a bit of an upgrade.

"You guys mind?," He asked.

The teens shook their heads and smiled at the blonde knight.

"Not at all Jaune, we can never be too prepared after all. Although...," Ruby trailed off.

"Yeah, we almost didn't recognize that it was you at first with that new-ish armor you've been wearing these days.," Nora said.

Jaune looked down at himself.

"Ah! Yeah, it... was a gift from the dark elves before they uh... you know.," Jaune said not wanting to bring up a certain topic.

"Went off to fight atlas?," Ruby asked.

Jaune nodded.

"You needn't worry about that Jaune. True it .. can be a bit of a sensitive subject, we're working on ending that conflict as soon as possible once we find the answers we seek in mistral.," Odyn replied.

The teens then went into the shop they were now in front of.

At a counter, a burly man with horns sets down a set of armor.

"There you go, lad. It'll be a bit heavier then you're used to but you'll thank me the next time you're up against a set of nasty claws." The blacksmith said.

Jaune was a little speechless as he didn't know hoe to thank the faunus man.

"Wow.. I uh... don't know what to say.," Jaune said rubbing the back of his neck with an embarrassed smile.

"You don't need to say anything, lad! Just put it on! I'll go get the rest of it for you.," The faunus man said.

The Faunus blacksmith turns and goes out back.

"So.... what are you waiting for?," Nora asked.

"Oh, uh r-right!," Jaune said removing his old chestplate.

"Guess I would grow out of it eventually..," Jaune said softly.

Ren speaks up, offering his wisdom for his friend and team leader.

" A sign of progress.," Ren said.

Jaune sighed before smiling.

"Progress.. right.," Jaune said.

As Jaune turns around to face the others, Ruby gasps and covers her mouth as she tries not to giggle upon seeing what's plastered on the front of Jaune's shirt as she points.

"What is it?," Jaune asked oblivious as to why his friends were trying and sometimes failing to hold back chuckles and snickers.

"What is that?," Ruby said trying hold back her giggling as she points to the emblem on Jaune's chest.

A bunny emblem on the front of Jaune's shirt is revealed to be the cause of near fits of giggling and snickering by his friends.

Jaune looks down at it.

"What? My hoodie? I've always had this.," Jaune asked curious.

Rubby snorts as she points at it.

"It's got a cute little bunny rabbit!," Ruby said pojnting at it and snorting.

She then laughs.

"It's Pumpkin Pete! You know, from the cereal?," Jaune replied matter if factly.

"What'd you do?! Send in a box top for a prize?," Ruby asked in near hysterical laughter.

"Y-yeah, 50 of them!," Jaune said turning away in embarrassment.

Ruby continues to laugh hysterically, her head stylistically expanding, before she falls onto the floor.

Odyn and the others just turn their heads from the friend attempting to hold back laughter.

"Well, I suppose we don't need to grow out of everything right away..," Ren said sagely.

Ruby chortles from the floor, feet in the air. The blacksmith returns from out back.

"Can't have a Huntsman without his weapon, can we?," The blacksmith said sticking a sword sheath onto the counter.

"Made all of the modifications you asked for too..." he continued.

The blade expands into a shield, highlighted by the metal headpiece that Pyrrha once wore. This made all of the teens smile upon seeing it.

" That was some fone metal you brought me. Accents the white nicely. Where'd you get it from?" He asked.

Jaune smiled.

" From a friend." He answered.

Odyn spoke.

"We'll wait for you outside, Jaune.," Odyn said as the other teens the exited the shop to wait outside.

Small time skip.....

Ruby, Odyn, Ren, Nora, and Sarai wait outside the shop. Jaune comes out wearing the armor. He pulls out the sword and expands the shield.

"He cleans up alright, don't you think?" The blacksmith asked.

The teens nodded.

"Have to say I agree with that.," Sarai said smiling at him.

"He certainly does.," Ren said.

"I still think a grenade launcher would've brought the whole look together more. But... I suppose this is alright.," Nora said.

"Nothing will stop Team JNRSRO now!" Ruby said raising her fist.

"Team JNRRSO!" Nora said.

"Again, still not a color.," Ren added.

"I don't think it really matters what we're called guys, as long as we're together!," Jaune said.

"You sure you kids won't stick around for awhile? You could do a lot of good here... And you've been real good to this town."

"As much as we'd like to, we've got another mission.," Ruby said.

The others nodded.

"Make it to Haven Academy no matter what.," Nora added.

"And meet up with our other friends along the way too.," Sarai said.

"Right, that too.," Nora said agreeing.

Odyn then shook the blacksmith's hand.

"Thanks for everything. We've heard the next village over has a working airship. It'll be much faster traveling by air rather than on foot.," Odyn said.

The faunus man nodded.

"Mmm, no way to know for sure. Scroll signals were weak enough out here back when Beacon Tower was still up. Haven't heard from Shion Village in a while. I have heard some troubling rumors though..."

"Well, only one way to know for sure!," Ruby added enthusiastic.

With a wave JNRSRO leaves as the blacksmith waves back to them and grunts.

"Food?"Jaune asks.

"Check!" Nora replied.

"Water?",he asked.

"Check!", Sarai answered this time.

"How about ammo?", Jaune asked.

"Locked and loaded, thank Schnee Dust Company!," Nora said.

"Got the map?," Jaune asked.

"Ren's got it.," Nora replied.

"No I don't,  you have it.," Ren said in denial of the claim.

"Wait, what?" Nora asked confused.

"Guys, please tell me you're joking.," Jaune said.

"🤦‍♂️ this is going to be a long trip, isn't it?," Sarai thought facepalming herself.

"Uh.. heh-heh-heh.," Nora laughs nervously.

"Guys! Guys? Guys...," Jaune says in mild panic.

"Nope.," Nora said.

"😅 well this trip just got real interesting..," Odyn thought sweatdropping.

Elsewhere...

The camera cuts to airships in the sky, Weiss Schnee's reflection becomes visible watching airships fly by through a window. She is sitting in a cushioned chair with her hands folded in her lap. There is a knock on the door.

She sighs before answering.

"Yes?," She asks.

A wide shot of the room reveals a large, open space on two levels. On the upper level are two arched bookcases built into the walls and a picture of a knight resembling the Arma Gigas hangs between them. A gilded mirror hangs above the mantle of a fireplace on the lower level. The door opens and Klein Sieben, a butler, enters.

"Pardon for the interruption, miss Schnee, but your father wishes to speak to you.," Klein said.

Weiss sighs again.

"Thank you, Klein.," She answers.

Klein.

Weiss looks out the window once more before getting up and walking out. Her heels clank across the floor and the door slams shut as the camera cuts to black.

Ending theme: Tales of Zestiria the X season 2

Visuals: Pans to different groups of the cast each fighting their own battles. Odyn and Ruby's group taking on Grimm, Roy training Yang who has her new arm, and the saiyans plus Neptune training against one another. The song ends with Odyn and Ruby ahead of the group of teens as they confront Cinder and Salem and charge towards them in a freeze frame.

And done! Didn't cover everything in this but... that's why this is a 2 parter! A little bit of further bonding between Odyn x Ruby next chapter will cover what exactly is occurring around our heroes.. especially since it involves members of Weiss's family. Also... the devils are making their move so there's a chance they may show up next chapter! Anyways just a quick update for you guys! Until the next one, see ya!
