Chapter 118 - My Lord Deserves a Break
Atlas wiped the sweat from his brow after a long day of intense training. His body was exhausted, and he decided it was time to rest and recover before the evening's discussion. To clear his mind and recharge, he headed toward the Luminaria Grove.
Even though it was night, the area around the magical tree remained untouched by artificial lighting. The faint glow emanating from the tree itself provided an illumination.
Approaching the small island encircled by the flowing stream, Atlas waded into the cool water, letting it rise to his knees. Closing his eyes, he allowed the tree's soothing magical aura to ease his fatigue and lighten his exhaustion.
Scooping the water with his hands, he splashed it over his face and hair, the coolness refreshing him instantly. The faintly sweet taste of the water lingered on his lips, invigorating him further.
Sitting down near the stream, he contemplated fully submerging himself to embrace the water's rejuvenating effects.
"My Lord…"
A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.
Turning his head, Atlas saw Mira approaching, her rabbit ears twitching slightly. Her expression was bright, her smile wide as she hurried over to him.
"Hi, My Lord," she greeted cheerfully.
"Hi, Mira," Atlas replied.
By now, Atlas had grown used to Mira's almost overwhelming cuteness. Enough that he could keep a straight face when she was around. Still, if he wasn't careful, lingering eye contact with her bright, enchanted expression could make his thoughts drift more than he'd like.
Mira sat beside him, a wooden basket full of fresh carrots resting neatly on her lap.
"My Lord… after a long, hard day of training, eating sweet crunchy carrots will fill your tummy with strength again!" she said, her voice light and cheery. "They're nature's little energy sticks. Chew, chew, and poof! You'll feel strong like a bunny knight!"
Atlas laughed under his breath. "Sure, I like carrots," he replied, reaching into the basket.
"That makes me sooo happy!" Mira beamed. "I was thinking, maybe I could make you a carrot feast tomorrow! Carrot stew, carrot juice, even carrot muffins! Mmm… carrot everything!"
"My Lord…" she continued softly.
"Yes?"
"Let me just…" Mira leaned in a little and reached out, her fingers brushing gently across his forehead and cheek. "This… soot and sweat," she said with a light laugh. "You've been training sooo hard, My Lord!"
She pouted ever so slightly. "If you keep this up without resting, even your handsome face might get all tired and grumpy. And we can't have a grumpy Lord, can we?"
Atlas laughed at her earnest scolding, clearly amused by her playful concern.
Mira smiled warmly. "You always take care of everyone else, but someone has to take care of you too, okay? So sit still… Mira-cleaning-service is now in session!"
She pulled a small cloth from her pocket. How she always had one ready was anyone's guess, and began dabbing gently at his face with the utmost focus, as if it were a sacred ritual.
"There! Nice and shiny again," she announced proudly. "Now you're ready to conquer kingdoms and carrot dinners!"
After taking a brief journey into her past some time ago, Atlas began to see Mira in a slightly different light. The cheerful, ever-optimistic girl who brightened the mood wherever she went turned out to have a history no one could have expected.
Mira was brilliant. It was evident in how she had transformed the island into the lush, beautiful haven it was now. Her over-the-top obsession with carrots aside, she had created a balanced environment with areas for relaxation, gathering, and dedicated spaces for farming.
Despite her carefree and bubbly demeanor, Mira had a unique way of leading the workers who assisted her. They labored from dawn to dusk, yet none of them ever seemed exhausted. Instead, they completed their tasks with laughter and smiles.
Atlas often wondered if this was how Mira had led her floating island in her own world.
And then there was the last battle. Mira had joined the offensive force and revealed a completely different side of herself.
In combat, she displayed a ferocity that rivaled even Morganna's infamous brutality. It was a stark contrast to her usual demeanor, as though she entered an entirely different state when the battlefield called for it.
Atlas chuckled to himself, recalling Mira's surprisingly fierce fighting style. She was full of unexpected layers, and those little contradictions only made her more captivating.
"Mira…"
"Yes, My Lord?" she replied, tilting her head.
"Is there a place you'd like to visit in this world? I've never taken you down to the Lower Lands before."
"Woah…" Mira's eyes widened in delight, her mouth curling into a surprised smile.
She nodded rapidly. "My Lord… I want to go to the beach! The real one! With waves and seashells and sand and everything!"
"The beach?" he echoed.
"Yes!" she said, her voice bubbling with excitement. Her ears gave an eager twitch as she kept nodding, practically bouncing in place.
"I've only ever read about it in books! I want to feel the sand in my toes, and run along the shoreline, and. And make the biggest, fluffiest sand-bunny ever!"
Atlas couldn't help but smile.
"Oh! And I want to collect shiny shells, and maybe find a starfish, and eat snacks under a big umbrella!" She paused, clutching the basket to her chest. "Can we, My Lord? Can we really go?"
"The beach…" he murmured, still half-lost in her enthusiasm.
Mira leaned in with a grin. "If you take me, I promise I'll build a sandcastle so amazing, it'll have carrot towers and defense bunnies!"
As luck would have it, the quest he had received to unlock a new skill from his new Tempest Warden class involved heading to a coastal area.
[Quest 1: "The Crushing Tide"]
[Objective: Train to control and manipulate large waves near the coastal area, directing and breaking tidal forces without losing balance.]
[Location: Coastal cliffs or a waterlogged training ground.]
[Challenge:]
[- Redirect the force of incoming waves.]
[- Break multiple tidal surges using precise spear strikes infused with water energy.]
The quest clearly required a coastal area with massive waves to meet its challenge requirements. While this might theoretically be possible on some floating island, he doubted that lower-ranked islands had any locations that could provide such conditions.
If they were to descend to the Lower Lands, it might take some time to locate the perfect spot. However, as luck would have it, their floating island was currently positioned near the coastal regions of the desert continent below. Some of those beaches might have exactly the kind of large waves he needed for the quest.
"Let me talk it over with Edrik and the others," Atlas said with a grin. "If it's doable, I'll take everyone on a little beach trip."
Before he could even finish processing her reaction, Mira launched herself at him, throwing her arms around his shoulders and hugging him tightly. Rocking him side to side with uncontainable joy.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you, My Lord!" she squealed. "You're the bestest Lord in all the realms! Mira-promise I'll be a good bunny and not sneak too many seashells into my pockets! Maybe just five… or ten… or a hundred if they're really shiny!"
Atlas let out a soft laugh as she clung to him.
"I'll even pack carrot sandwiches for everyone!" she added, pulling back just enough to beam up at him. "Beach day with snacks and smiles. What could be more perfect?"
