Chapter 12: the task
sapnap had been there fro about a day. he tried burning the paper. but his fire was still too weak only able to cause flurry's of fire. until finally. someone came in. dream.
"Dream!? what are you doing!??"
"sorry it had to come to this sap. you were a good friend. but your fathers caused this. remember that."
Sapnaps heart fell. dream was stood in the door still. not having to go over the most to talk to him. dream pointed at the desk.
"you are to write everything about your castle. or you'll face the consequences,"
"what? dream, come on, I'm your friend you can seriously be trapping me in here!"
dream just clenched his jaw and awaited for sapnap to comply. sapnap was in disbelief before dream turned. motioning to him while looking at someone. dream walked away as a few guards, three to four started into the room.
"dream!?"
everyone always had warned him dream was no good. after all, a dreamon was more dangerous than a demon. two guards grabbed his arms. he struggled before he felt something hit him harshly in the gut. sapnap double over in pain and surprise. he kept struggling. it was about an hour later before the three men walked out. sapnap, much to his dismay, had a chain around his ankle.
Sapnap was left slumped on the cold stone floor, chest heaving. He barely had the strength to move. His ankle was shackled, the thick iron links running from his leg to a bolt in the stone floor. His breath came in uneven pants as he tested it, only for the metal to hold firm.
sapnaps head hurt. he didn't know what to do, what was going to happen from now on. he knew one thing though.
Sapnap's hands trembled as he picked up the pen, his fingers sore and raw from the struggle. His breath was uneven, his ribs aching with every inhale, but he had no choice. His fathers wouldn't want him hurt. They wouldn't want him to die for pride alone.
The parchment in front of him was slightly crumpled from his earlier attempts to destroy it. He swallowed hard, staring at the blank page, the flickering candlelight casting eerie shadows over his writing hand. His mind screamed at him not to do it—to resist, to fight back—but his body protested even louder.
He dipped the pen in ink and began to write.
"The castle stands strong, fortified by thick stone walls reinforced over generations. The main gate is made of oak and iron, nearly impossible to breach without a battering ram. Guard towers stand at each corner, giving archers a clear line of sight over the surrounding land."
His stomach twisted as he detailed the secrets of his home. The same home he had sworn to protect.
"The southern wall is the weakest," he wrote hesitantly. "It was damaged in the last raid but has been patched with temporary reinforcements. If struck at the right place, it could collapse inward, creating an entry point."
He clenched his jaw, the weight of his betrayal pressing down on him. But what else could he do?
His vision blurred for a moment, exhaustion and pain pulling at his mind, but he forced himself to continue.
"The inner courtyard leads directly to the Great Hall, where most meetings are held. A hidden passage exists behind the throne—an escape route built by my ancestors."
sapnap paused. he wasn't going to write more. even if he didn't say a crucial detail. they needed his blood to let them in the escape route. because knowing how they have been treating him, than they might take a bit more than they needed.
and with that sapnap set the pen down, limping over to the bed and flopping down. his body was sore. and hurt quite a bit. and so, he shut his eyes. letting darkness consume him. he wanted his dads.
