Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl

Chapter 192: Can We Slice Mr. Chen?

Xiao Song put down what she was holding and came over to grasp Dao Meihua's arm, pulling her aside to whisper about the poaching incident that occurred during the Chinese New Year period.

Dao Meihua, hearing that there had also been a poaching incident here and that the culprits had still not been found, flew into a rage instantaneously.

"What a load of crap. Dr. Chen, don't worry about it, I'll handle this for you. We definitely can't let these people delay the treatment of the clouded leopard."

Dao Meihua went aside with her phone to make a call. What she was saying was difficult for them to understand, probably in her local dialect.

The little assistant also frowned and whipped out her phone to tap away.

Chen Ying always had an uneasy feeling. He glanced at Duanmu and the others, frowning as he entered the treatment room.

No matter what, he had to establish the next step of the treatment plan based on the female leopard's condition, ensuring that even if he was absent for three days, the follow-up treatment would not be held up.

As for anything beyond three days, his teacher would definitely come to take over, so he wasn't worried about that.

When he had finished and stepped out, he noticed everyone was bustling and lively, setting up tables to eat in the forest clearing.

Besides Dao Meihua and the little assistant, there were the deputy director, Uncle Zhao, Uncle Yi, and a new forest patrol officer.

"When did you guys get here? I didn't hear any commotion at all."

"You were too focused; we didn't want to disturb you. Come and try the cured meat we brought."

"We came specially to check out the situation. We have a good idea of what's going on now. Wasn't there an earthquake in the highlands a while back? We thought it didn't affect us here, but this time we went up and found some activity at the top of Snow Mountain, though it was on the eastern slope. I guess the changes in the underground water flow might be related to the earthquake."

"Are you kidding? That earthquake was only a 2.5 magnitude and it was deep in the mountains."

"Who knows about that—you would need geological experts to figure it out. Anyway, after our inspection, there didn't seem to be much issue. The follow-up requirement is to check once a month, and if there are no changes, we'll leave it alone for the time being."

All of their protection areas fall within the highland seismic zone, and a little shaking was nearly becoming part of the daily rhythm.

As long as there are no significant changes to the mountain structures, everything should be fine.

Animals are far more sensitive to changes in the environment than humans.

The rock sheep and snow leopard they had encountered before might have moved down because of the earthquake.

While eating, Xiao Song and Dao Meihua sat together, chatting about girl stuff, while the deputy director quietly asked Chen Ying about the issue with the permits.

"Why don't you leave that to me? Just say Director Yin asked me to handle it before."

Their Forestry Protection department and Wildlife Protection fall under two subsystems of one larger system; their work overlaps but also has distinct focuses. Director Song really couldn't manage what goes on at their protection station.

And, with the reputation of the old director of the County Forestry and Grass Bureau as protective as he is, who would dare to provoke him?

Of course, this is as long as you also don't cross the line; otherwise, the old director will give you enough to handle.

Chen Ying accepted the kindness and kept the favor in mind.

"Brother Ying, Xiao Song said there have been some issues here; how about you continue the treatment at our place? I saw your little emergency aid station and it's perfect for the conditions in our area."

In Dian Province, each region is quite far from the others, and the forest areas are vast, so building large rescue stations isn't as practical as several small, micro-sized first aid and shelter facilities.

"I talked to my dad and brother about it a few days ago, and they support my idea. We plan to invest in building three emergency aid stations in two of the conservation areas near our house. But we don't have much experience and aren't clear on what we need. Brother Ying, could you take the trouble to make a list for us? My family will handle the procurement, coordination, and installation."

Damn it, I really am a tad envious of the rich!

Setting up this emergency aid station almost made Chen Ying sell his marriage house; it was only through finding a loophole in a project that he managed to establish it.

When other people talk about investing, they just do it, setting up six stations at once; his eyes turned green with envy.

The assistant quietly tugged on Miss Dao's sleeve.

"Besides, Brother Ying, if you need any equipment, just let us know. Collective procurement can—at the very least—knock the price down a bit."

Miss Dao had an extra bit of shrewdness, avoiding a direct offer of sponsorship. She feared Chen Ying would flatly refuse and dent her pride.

Chen Ying shook his head, "I don't need anything at the moment. My place is meant to provide emergency aid to small wild animals. If it's a large wild animal, the necessary examination equipment can't be provided here at all; they must go to large hospitals for examinations."

Like doing X-rays for a giant panda, they have to go to a human hospital and cut in line.

Those gadgets cost several hundred thousand to millions each, and with all the wealth in the world, it's impossible to buy them to use just once a year.

As for the list that Dao Meihua wanted, he had a file saved. He could just pull it up for her—no trouble at all.

In light of her rescuing the female Clouded Leopard, there was no way Chen Ying could refuse.

"You guys go ahead and eat, I'll just export the list."

Duanmu put down his bowl and exchanged a glance with Xiao Song. The two of them went upstairs to print the list.

"What did you just say to Miss Dao? Why did she suddenly invite Brother Ying to their place?"

"I didn't say much, just mentioned the incident of Brother Ying visiting home during the Spring Festival. Other than that, I didn't say a word; she figured it out herself. These kids from affluent families are not without their smarts."

The assistant and Little Sen got busy tidying up the kitchen, while Chen Ying returned to the ICU to check on the little female leopard's condition.

The little guy lay on his side, weak, looking better today, half-opening his eyes to peek at Chen Ying, his paw moved slightly.

Chen Ying sanitized his hands, donned sterile gloves, and reached into the chamber through the operating passage to check the healing progress of the female leopard's wounds.

Then he felt the spine of the little female leopard—good, no displacement.

"Little guy, well done. Just keep resting up, and in a few days, you'll be able to leave the chamber," said Chen Ying as he turned his body to guide her gaze out the window.

"See that one of your kind on the shelf outside? That's your brother."

The little female leopard opened her mouth but made no sound.

Chen Ying knew she understood, but guessed she probably didn't have much of a concept.

He asked the little leopard if she was hungry; she wanted some meat.

"You wait here, I'll go prepare your meal. I saved the tenderest part of the rabbit your brother caught just for you."

After leaving the room, Chen Ying curved his fingers and knocked on the Clouded Leopard's head, "Come on, let's go to the kitchen; you watch me prepare dinner for your sister."

Sure enough, the Clouded Leopard hopped down and followed him to the Ingredient Room.

The few people chatting in the forest watched their actions and, no matter how long they observed, they found it unbelievable.

"Mr. Chen is unbeatable with that trick of his. My goodness, 'Little Saber-toothed Tiger', behaving so obediently in front of him, doing whatever he says,"

The assistant was in awe.

He had previously rescued a Clouded Leopard with several other volunteers. Even the cats that were injured badly, screaming in pain whenever they moved, still bared their teeth and threatened fiercely upon seeing them.

If it weren't for the protective clothing, they'd probably all be accompanying them in the hospital right now.

But look at it now; once with Chen Ying, they just submit to getting an injection or to the fumigating medicines—a few of them are just like real kitty cats, with not the slightest bit of resistance!

Can comparing people really be this infuriating?
