Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Team Giova
"Mr. Lin, our leader requests your presence."
On the fourth day, the white-haired boy named Xiao Qi visited again.
Lin Yu immediately knew that his time for rest had come to an end.
"Let's go."
After giving Bai Wei a brief word, Lin Yu followed Xiao Qi to the headquarters of the Black Snake gang, located at the center of the camp.
"Brother Lin, how have you been resting these past few days?"
As soon as Black Snake saw Lin Yu, he greeted him with a smile and used a more familiar address.
"Not bad."
Lin Yu wasn't very good at small talk, so he chose to get straight to the point: "Let's just discuss the matter at hand."
"Hehe, alright. The reason I called you here is naturally about the transaction from last time."
Black Snake nodded and said, "The main person has arrived, and I was just about to go greet him. I'd like you to come along and meet him."
"Sure, let's go."
Lin Yu was actually a bit curious about who could warrant such a grand reception from Black Snake, but he didn't ask further and simply nodded in agreement.
Thus, as soon as they reached the center of the camp, before he could even take a seat, he was led by Black Snake and others to the large gate on the west side of the camp.
They waited for about a quarter of an hour.
A convoy approached through the dust of the Wasteland and finally stopped at the camp entrance.
Lin Yu casually glanced at the convoy, which consisted of a leading jeep, a camper van, and three fully enclosed heavy trucks.
Especially the three fully enclosed heavy trucks, their compartments were so large that it was impossible to see inside.
Bang!
The car door was slammed shut, and six people got out of the leading jeep.
The leader was a bald, muscular man wearing a metal mask that resembled both a restraint and a respirator, with cybernetic implants visible on his limbs and chest.
Behind the bald man were three men and two women, some dressed in camouflage military uniforms, others in jackets and jeans, and some cloaked in hoods. In short, they were dressed in bizarre styles, but all bore the marks of prosthetic modifications, fully armed with guns and grenades hanging all over them.
The six did not immediately approach Black Snake and his group but instead turned around and retrieved a handsome young man with a fair complexion from the camper van.
The six surrounded the young man protectively before stepping closer to the Black Snake camp.
However, they ultimately stopped a short distance away, with only the bald man stepping forward.
"Giova…"
Black Snake beamed with a smile and stepped forward to warmly embrace the masked man.
"Where's the helper you asked me to find?"
The bald man's voice sounded somewhat distorted through the respirator.
"He's right here. How could I neglect your request?"
Black Snake's smile faded slightly as he turned around and pointed to Lin Yu: "This is him; I guarantee you'll be satisfied."
"Hello."
The bald man looked Lin Yu up and down, his gaze slightly puzzled.
But after glancing at Black Snake and seeing the other's seemingly smug smile, he suppressed his confusion and extended his large hand, resembling a fan, toward Lin Yu in a friendly manner.
One couldn't help but notice that the bald man had an imposing presence, his physique robust like a giant bear ready to pounce, and the extensive mechanical prosthetic modifications on his body made him seem like a humanoid mech.
"Hello."
Despite being a bit worried that the bald man's mechanical hand, larger than his own head, might accidentally crush his small arms and legs, Lin Yu still reached out his hand.
"Lin Yu, Giova."
Black Snake's smile returned as he continued to introduce the two.
"Follow me."
After a slight nod, Giova led Black Snake and Lin Yu toward the six people behind him.
At this point, Lin Yu began to understand the situation.
Giova and the few who had just gotten out of the jeep were likely the mercenary team that Black Snake had mentioned would be acting together.
The reason Black Snake sought him out was that Giova had given him a heads-up to help find a helper.
As for the young man being protected, he was probably the employer for this mission.
"Mr. Zhao, this is…"
Giova brought Lin Yu to the handsome young man surrounded by guards.
However, just as he was about to introduce them, a middle-aged man in a suit and glasses hurriedly ran down from the camper van, quickly approaching the young man and whispering a few words in his ear.
"Sorry to interrupt your reunion, but I need to head into the city quickly to meet someone."
The handsome young man, guarded by Giova and others, politely interrupted the group with an apologetic tone.
"It's alright, Mr. Zhao, your business is more important. We are here to assist you."
Black Snake played the mediator.
Since the employer had spoken, there was nothing more to say; they naturally prioritized him.
The group had to temporarily set aside other matters and followed the young man named Zhao as he quickly entered the camp.
They did not head to the headquarters of the Black Snake gang but instead followed the middle-aged man in glasses, who led them skillfully to a certain location in the camp.
The further they walked, the more familiar everything felt to Lin Yu, until they finally stopped at a junkyard.
Old Zhang's junkyard.
"You all wait outside for a moment."
The large group arrived at the entrance of the junkyard, and the young man named Zhao halted everyone, taking only the middle-aged man in glasses with him as they stepped inside.
However, since the junkyard was open for business and there were no obstructions around, everyone could still see what was happening inside.
Old Zhang was still lying on a lounge chair as usual, covering his face with a tattered hat, leisurely basking in the sun.
"Excuse me… is this Old Zhang?"
Hearing the footsteps, Old Zhang had initially planned to lift his hat and get up.
But upon hearing the polite and respectful voice of the young man named Zhao, he immediately halted his movements, letting the hat fall back over his face, and irritably waved his hand, saying, "What Old Zhang? There's no one named Zhang here."
"…"
The young man named Zhao and the middle-aged man in glasses were directly met with a closed door, exchanging glances and then looking at the glaring sign that read 'Old Zhang's Junkyard' made of broken plastic sheets and red paint, feeling at a loss.
"Could this Old Zhang be some hidden master?"
Lin Yu watched this scene from outside and was quite surprised, turning to look at Black Snake.
"From the looks of it, he probably is."
Black Snake's expression turned serious as he nodded in analysis.
"What do you mean by 'from the looks of it'? Aren't you the head honcho of this camp?"
Lin Yu was somewhat speechless.
"Do you know how many cockroaches and mice are in your house?"
Black Snake's face remained expressionless.
"...Alright, that's reasonable."
Lin Yu was left speechless.
"I've heard that you often frequent these places? You should be more familiar with it, right?"
Black Snake asked.
"Not too familiar, just had dealings with Old Zhang two or three times, but he does have a sharp eye."
Lin Yu shook his head.
"Who's talking bad about me behind my back? Hmm? Wait, that voice sounds a
bit familiar?"
Perhaps hearing Lin Yu and Black Snake's conversation, the 'sleeping' Old Zhang suddenly began to curse, but soon seemed to realize something, no longer bothering to pretend to sleep, and sprang up from the lounge chair.
