Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Late Night Call & A New Invitation
A Late Night Call
Lee lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. The city lights of New York flickered through the window. She had spent the evening catching up with friends, but now, alone in her hotel room, she sighed and picked up her phone.
She scrolled through her messages. Gen hadn't texted her.
"Tch. That woman usually never shuts up," Lee muttered to herself.
After hesitating for a second, she dialed Gen's number.
The call rang twice before Gen picked up.
"Finally, my runaway wife remembers me," Gen teased, her voice amused.
Lee rolled her eyes. "I told you I'd call."
"You sound tired," Gen said. "Did you have fun?"
"It was nice catching up," Lee said, rubbing her forehead. "What about you?"
Gen smirked. "I had a little family meeting."
Lee raised an eyebrow. "Your family?"
"Nope. Nam's parents," Gen said.
Lee blinked. "Wait, weren't they out of town during the wedding?"
"Yeah. They had some urgent business," Gen explained. "So they invited me over today to congratulate me."
Lee sat up. "And?"
Gen chuckled. "They want to meet my 'wife' and have dinner together. So, once you're back, we're visiting them."
Lee sighed. "You told them?"
"Of course," Gen said smugly. "I proudly introduced my lovely wife."
Lee groaned. "Gen…"
"Don't worry," Gen said. "They were happy. Just be ready when you return."
Lee rubbed her temples. "And what if I don't want to go?"
"You have no choice," Gen said cheerfully.
Lee sighed. "Fine. But only because it's Nam's parents."
Gen grinned. "That's my good wife."
Lee rolled her eyes. "I'm hanging up."
"Wait," Gen said. "Did you eat?"
Lee hesitated.
Gen sighed. "I knew it. Go eat something, then sleep."
Lee frowned. "You're not my mom."
"No, I'm your wife," Gen said smoothly.
Lee groaned. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, babe," Gen teased.
Lee hung up and flopped onto the bed.
Why did talking to Gen always make her feel something she didn't want to admit?
