Chapter 209: Contact the Vice President at 202
Situated in his own modest official residence in Peanut Village, Camason, dressed in pajamas and barefoot, sat on a reasonably priced fabric sofa, gazing out the window into the night, looking somewhat puzzled.
America was sliding into the abyss, with a complete defeat of its military in East Asia—a carrier had been sunk, another captured by the people of Country C, and hundreds of thousands of American troops had been taken prisoner. The original two East Asian allies had also been conquered.
Even within the Lighthouse Country itself, it seemed that Iridium Star's special forces were continuously raiding targets that totally baffled him, primarily targeting invisible tycoons and leaders of large conglomerates.
As Camason, who held a certain sympathy for the suffering of the working people of the Lighthouse Country and leaned towards left-wing conservatism, he did not mind seeing those large corporate magnates being dealt with. But from what he saw at the scenes, the situations were extremely gruesome, with the Star Alliance's special forces even cracking open the victims' skulls, and their brains were all missing.
Feeling inexplicably chilly, Camason stood up, walked to the window, and closed it, holding a glass of whisky without ice and sipping it slowly.
"Looking at this city from here, the view is actually quite nice."
Startled, Camason turned around and found a man dressed in white, who had appeared behind him without notice.
The lighting in the living room was dim, and Camason's wife and children were already asleep. Camason immediately wanted to call his Secret Service bodyguards, but when he saw the man in white under the faint light, his voice seemed to be choked, and he couldn't make a sound.
The man in white smiled slightly and said, "Vice President, you can call for someone, I assure you no one will come to interrupt our conversation."
Camason frowned, saying, "Chancellor, your actions constitute illegal intrusion, which is not something to be proud of."
Bai Zhongqi somewhat presumptuously took a seat on Camason's sofa, helped himself to a glass, poured a drink, and said leisurely, "Iridium Star and the Lighthouse Country do not have an official diplomatic relationship, which means Iridium Star does not recognize the sovereignty of the Lighthouse Country, nor its laws. Therefore, your so-called illegal intrusion does not apply to me."
Camason was somewhat frightened, but he knew that the man before him was undoubtedly the most powerful person on Earth right now. His personal presence meant something important.
Bai Zhongqi took a sip of whiskey, which was very smooth, though he did not particularly like the taste, and placed it on the table.
"I am very sorry things have escalated to this point; in fact, achieving peace on Earth and bettering people's lives has always been my goal."
Unable to help himself, Camason sarcastically remarked, "Yet you are indeed the planner of wars, the weaver of deaths."
Bai Zhongqi shrugged, "I won't deny that, but now this war should end."
Camason was somewhat surprised, but even more puzzled, and said, "If there were to be a ceasefire, it should have been Country C coming into diplomatic contact with us, so why do you, the esteemed Iridium Star Chancellor, the true leader of the Star Alliance, visit my humble abode in the dead of night?"
Bai Zhongqi took out a smart device from his pocket, placed it on Camason's table, and a holographic screen popped up, showing various contents. He explained, "Actually, this war is not about the emerging powers challenging the existing ones, a Thucydides trap, but rather, it is part of an operation to truly liberate humanity, to break an astounding conspiracy."
"What are you talking about? I don't understand," said Camason, puzzled.
A picture of a Brain Worm appeared on the holographic screen. Its segmented limbs and the red and pale colors resembling a brain frightened Camason.
"What is this ghastly thing?" he asked.
Bai Zhongqi said, "This is a parasitic organism called a Brain Worm, and it's a highly intelligent parasite. They appeared on Earth over a hundred years ago, and in recent decades, these creatures have almost come to dominate human society, or rather the political power in Western society..."
Along with the text, images, and static videos on the holographic screen, Bai Zhongqi succinctly explained what exactly a Brain Worm was. Camason was shocked beyond measure; he couldn't imagine that the universal values he steadfastly believed in had become tools used by a group of brain-eating extraterrestrial parasites to confuse and rule humanity. He couldn't imagine that many people he encountered daily were, in fact, not human at all.
"...The Star Alliance waged war against the Lighthouse Country indeed to challenge the old global order, but more importantly, to challenge this inhuman system that enslaves people's minds, exploits human labor, and squeezes human creativity. With the entry of Iridium Star Technology to Earth today, even if the Earth's population were ten billion or seventy billion, we can ensure that everyone lives a materially and spiritually affluent life, free from exploitation and oppression. It's not about people singing praises for equality while being pegged to their social class, slaving their lives away creating wealth that ends up in the hands of the wealthy, or even the Brain Worm-infested humans, becoming their source of luxury."
"Now, in the Lighthouse Country's Congress, almost one-third of the members are Brain Worm-infested people; almost all the political sponsors behind the Lighthouse Country are shadowed by Brain Worms; including the current president, who is still deluded, he too is a Brain Worm," said Bai Zhongqi.
Camason's eyes widened in shock, "Tang is a Brain Worm, how is that possible? Then why would he choose me, and not a Brain Worm, as his deputy?"
"It's simple; this baseless businessman president needs someone who seems less high-profile to mitigate the vibe around him. You are actually a minor figure within the party, unlikely to draw attention, and you have a good reputation for integrity, making you the best political partner."
Camason was still grappling with everything as he trembled slightly and said, "So, all those victims across America who had their brains removed, were actually Brain Worms?"
Righteously, Bai Zhongqi said, "Exactly, that's correct. In the new society we are establishing, we will not allow any monsters that eat our brains to continue endangering the safety of our people."
Bai Zhongqi looked at the disheveled Camason, stood up, patted his shoulder, and said, "Mr. Vice President, I know this information is overwhelming, but the Lighthouse Country is awaiting salvation, the whole world is awaiting salvation. Tomorrow night, I will announce to the world the existence of the Brain Worms and initiate a global campaign to eradicate them. I hope that in this operation, there will be a contribution from those in Lighthouse Country who truly cherish justice and peace, who earnestly plead for the people." Camason looked up at him and asked, "What do you need me to do?"
Bai Zhongqi smiled, revealing a set of pearly white teeth, and said, "Contact the Commander of the National Guard stationed nearby, explain everything to him, and if he is willing to cooperate, you both will storm the temporary White House and wipe out the Brain Worms. I will provide your troops with devices that can detect the Brain Worms. If that Commander refuses to cooperate, my people will help you take control of the military, and you can still take over Washington within a day to eliminate the Brain Worms. After I send the message to the world, you will deliver a speech at the White House, denouncing the politics of the Brain Worm, restoring the Lighthouse Country and the entire world to a truly human-controlled, collectively created brilliant future."
