Chapter 216: 209 Combat Readiness (Part 2)

Apart from the two main classes of main battle ships, the Star Alliance Universe Army's shipbuilding plan also includes a rich variety of other ship types. The list of warships in Bai Zhongqi's construction docket still has a large pile, ranging from cruisers, carrier cruisers, destroyers, escort ships to reconnaissance ships, logistics ships, comprehensive engineering ships, and others that are used in conjunction with the fleet.

To make construction easier and the training more universally applicable, the new batch of shipbuilding plans primarily focuses on building only one or two classes per ship type. For instance, after building six Cloud Dragon Class heavy cruisers, which Bai Zhongqi had high hopes for, their construction has been put on hold. Instead, the Sichuan Class heavy cruisers, modified based on the foundation of the Rampaging Bear Class, will begin mass production.

This is also the first time the Star Alliance has adopted terrestrial place names from Earth as the naming methodology for a class of ships, with the first batch planning to build as many as 48, all using the names of relatively famous cities on Earth. After the Universe Army proposed the new ship class, there were some verbal disputes among various countries to secure a ship name that each could call their own.

Bai Zhongqi studied the construction parameters of the warships and felt slightly relieved, "After a high degree of standardization and simplification, the construction time for the Sichuan Class heavy cruiser has been reduced to two months. Its standard armament should still hold a decent advantage when facing Teizene warships of the same class."

Bai Zhongqi's true positioning for this new class of cruisers was that of a hunter-killer of small starships. Once both sides truly engaged in a firefight, the main battle ships would basically form formations and engage in close combat, and the starships below the level of the main battle ships would basically be unable to participate in that level of contention. Regardless of the interstellar civilization, the most numerous in any fleet would definitely be the escort ships. To better destroy the enemy's medium and small ships, a warship with particularly fierce firepower and effective striking capability was needed. The previously produced Cloud Dragon Class had even stronger firepower and more comprehensive functions, but they were built to serve as semi-main battle ships. Now, what Bai Zhongqi was seeking was cost-effectiveness and value for money, for warfare against medium and small starships, making the Sichuan Class even more valuable.

The destroyer class also adopted a completely new class of ship. In the past, Iridium Star destroyers undertook more Planet-Killer Ship missions, but in the face of Teizene invasion, the Star Alliance has expanded the role of destroyers to focus more on anti-air duties. Likewise, letting Earth's nations claim the names, the new destroyer class will likely have hundreds of destroyers built, all using the ship names currently in use by the navies of various countries on Earth. The first destroyer will be named Mahan, a name inherited from Lighthouse Country, so this level of destroyers will be known as the Mahan Class. The Americans also pushed for names like Ticonderoga, Spruance, Pensacola, and Zhongyun, while names from other countries like Bold, Terrifying, Dragon Cavalry, and Modern will also appear in the Universe Army's fleet.

In terms of general-purpose escort ships, the Universe Army of the Star Alliance is still very satisfied with the use of the Tai Ping Class and does not plan to continue replacing them with new warships. The Tai Ping Class will become the most mass-produced main combat vessel in the Universe Army, with the final number possibly exceeding three hundred.

"A Tai Ping Class can be produced from a dock in a month, and the Tai Ping Class can also stably suppress the opponent's escort ships. In a relatively larger battlefield, the escort ship formations can handle the enemy's multifaceted assaults," Bai Zhongqi thought to himself.

Two days after the summit ended, Bai Zhongqi had been at the Star Alliance Defense Department in Tai Ping City, discussing the shipbuilding plan with the Universe Army personnel. Although after the Genetic Advantage Liberation, even several days without sleep would not affect Bai Zhongqi's energy, he still felt somewhat tired now.

Xu Lanzhou also noticed the fatigue on the Chancellor's body and consoled him, "Your Majesty, within two years, we will definitely be able to achieve the goal of constructing six hundred main combat vessels. Plus, since we're fighting on home ground, we can set up various effective galaxy and planetary defenses within the Local Interstellar Cloud—Teizene's offensive is nothing to fear."

Bai Zhongqi nodded and said, "Warships are actually the least of my concerns. We will be able to assemble a sufficiently large fleet before the enemy arrives. What truly worries me is that it will be difficult, within two years, to train an army of personnel capable of piloting hundreds of warships."

He did not conceal his current anxiety and concern, saying, "The new crew members will come from various countries on Earth, each with different languages and cultural customs. We plan to mix them up, assign them to work and fight together, but truly forming them into a combat collective is not going to be easy."

"I plan to perform human modifications on all the recruited crew members after genetic optimization liberation," said Bai Zhongqi calmly.

Xu Lanzhou was somewhat surprised; human modifications had always been considered taboo on Iridium Star, allowed only with special permission.

"I do not intend to create any monstrous soldiers, but I do need them to become easier to work with in combat," Bai Zhongqi explained.

The route for soldier body modification was somewhat similar to his own, of course without implanting an overly powerful biocomputer in the soldiers' bodies. This implanted chip would allow soldiers to access some important information. Two years was too short, even with deep immersion learning, they needed a backup information library.

Additionally, languages from various countries could be integrated into the biological chip, so when a Gaul speaks French to a Raging Boomer, although what the latter hears is French, the chip translates it into a meaning understood by him, directly sending neural signals to the brain. This method is somewhat more intuitive than using a translator, but essentially there is no significant difference.

At the very least, in this way, soldiers from around the globe will be able to understand each other. Only if the fleet's crew members can communicate with each other can they really cooperate.

Bai Zhongqi continued, "Our warships all have warship AI and a complete system. Theoretically, unmanned navigation and combat are possible. But we all know that in the absence of human decision-making, a single ship's self-sustainability and flexible combat abilities will greatly decrease in the battlefield context."

Xu Lanzhou knew what Bai Zhongqi meant, as Iridium Star had conducted experiments in the past. In most environments, warships with autonomous navigation and combat command hold certain advantages. However, the unpredictability and genius of humans cannot be replicated by artificial intelligence, so the all-unmanned fleet lost almost all of the exercises when facing a combination of human crews and advanced intelligent systems.

Bai Zhongqi could not predict whether, in two years' time, a Universe Army truly comprised of people from all over the globe would be able to withstand Teizene's first wave of invasion, but he was full of hope.
