Chapter 31: 31 - New Spells
Now that I had plenty of money and my first place in the college rankings was guaranteed, I decided to go out and treat myself.
Even though I was learning to cook well and my food was getting tastier as the days went by, I still wanted to eat something different.
'A barbecue would be great...' I thought as I imagined a beautiful piece of meat being roasted on the grill.
In the other world I also loved to eat barbecue, but unfortunately I didn't earn a high enough salary to support myself and be able to buy good meat to roast constantly, so I limited myself to eating barbecue only on special occasions.
Maybe that's why the thought of barbecue came to my mind now, unconsciously thinking that this is a special moment that deserves barbecue.
Not denying my desire, I left college in search of a good barbecue restaurant.
As the college was very close to the commercial center of the city, all these exits were easy to make on foot, but considering that I would be moving this week, it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a car or a motorcycle so that I could leave the house more comfortably and conveniently.
Finding a nice-looking restaurant serving all you can eat, I was surprised to notice that there was a sign saying that all you can eat for normal people cost $50, but for Supernaturals the price went up to $100.
Curious about this, I called the waitress over.
"Excuse me, why is there a price difference between the all you can eat for normal people and for Supernaturals?" I asked curiously.
Smiling, she answered politely. "As Supernaturals are stronger and their bodies need more food to sustain themselves, normally the amount they eat is at least double that of ordinary people, so the price has also been adjusted accordingly."
That made sense, it wouldn't be fair to demand a unified price if Supernaturals had an advantage or normal people had to pay more than they ate.
But another doubt arose in me hearing this. "And how do you know if someone is supernatural or not?"
The waitress kept her polite attitude and replied. "Our restaurant has hired a Sensor Magician to find out if the customer is supernatural or normal before bringing the bill, so if the customer identifies as supernatural it will be ignored. Are you a Player?"
Smiling politely at her, I shook my head in denial. "No, I'm a Game Creator."
Hearing that I was a Game Creator, although it surprised her slightly due to the rarity of my profession, given how close the restaurant was to the college that trained Game Creators, she didn't have that big a reaction, but she still added. "That's great, is there anything else I can do?"
I just nodded and she said goodbye before leaving.
Looking around and seeing that there were still people wearing clothes from the dungeons they had raided today, even though it was Sunday, I realized more details of the differences between this world and my previous one.
Although the two worlds were very similar, there were big differences between the two.
One thing I noticed was that the sports in this world were very different, with Supernatural sports standing out a lot in terms of popularity compared to normal people's sports.
As the games industry has never been very well used in this world for entertainment, it's understandable that they would have developed other areas to supply this demand for the public.
Seeing these differences between the two worlds was fun.
While I was eating I was thinking about other differences the world had, before turning my thoughts to planning the next Battle Pass even better.
Since I was going to make the first Battle Pass based on Lyna Proudstone, I was thinking about all the games I'd played and which line of skins she might fit into best.
With every piece of meat I ate, I felt like my mind was opening up to more possibilities.
'Good humor really helps you think...' I laughed mentally.
Among all the possibilities I thought of, there was one theme that I think would please the Players the most.
Although there weren't as many demon-themed games as in my old world, in this world there were a lot of demon-themed series and movies, making this topic very popular with people.
'I could make a skin for her as if she were a demon queen, with scales, horns and a slightly more sensual appearance... showing her in a more beautiful and rebellious form would arouse both female interest in this new aesthetic, and male interest in seeing a woman pleasing to the eye.' I thought excitedly as I took out my small notepad and wrote down what I had thought. 'Even her skill could change from a normal fireball to a green fire skull!'
With that decided, I quickly drew a sketch of the design I envisioned for the back of the card too, following the same demonic theme.
'The ornament for the board could be a small version of the green fire skull that the skin would attack on the enemy!'
By the time I'd finished deciding all this, I'd had enough to eat, so I paid the bill and went home.
I could even meditate and recover the rest of the Mana to develop more cards and speed up the time to post this update, but the meeting I had with the college class on Friday showed me the importance of magic.
Even if I didn't plan on raiding a dungeon, at least I needed magical knowledge to protect myself.
The possible confrontation I would have with Evans showed me the importance of being able to defend myself.
Although the world is in a peaceful era without wars and major conflicts, being able to protect myself, those I care about and the things I have is my priority.
So, after meditating and recovering my Mana, I opened my college magic book and started looking for all the spells it would teach.
Instead of just blindly following what the book teaches as I was doing before, now I would first find the spells I wanted to learn, then focus on learning only the spells that would be useful to protect me.
Cleaning spells might be useful in everyday life at home, but I couldn't threaten the bandit with a spell like that, right?
'Don't attack me, otherwise I'll make you as clean as someone who's just got out of the shower...?!'
Impossible.
So I looked at the offensive spells I could make, both in the book and on the internet like I did with Shadow Illusion.
As I'm a Game Creator, my Mana is much higher than that of a Player of the same Rank as me, allowing me to learn both F Rank and E Rank spells.
Although F Rank has some useful and versatile spells, it was only at E Rank that the spells started to get really powerful.
The Shadow Illusion spell I learned to deal with Evans was an E Rank spell.
And among the spells the book taught, there were also some spells that suited my needs.
The first spell that interested me was called "Web of Containment", which basically made a sticky golden web that, if it hit the target, would stick to it and everything around it, trapping it in place.
Another spell that interested me was "Shadow Camouflage", a spell that controls shadows to surround my body and camouflage me with the environment, reducing the noise I make and making it harder for enemies to identify me.
And as a spell for direct combat, I was interested in "Ghost Blade", a spell that creates a sharp blade that flies to the target I aim at.
The disadvantage of Ghost Blade is that the blade only lasts for one attack and wouldn't be able to penetrate armor or the skins of tougher monsters with the normal amount of Mana used, but in compensation, the attack speed of this spell is very high and extremely lethal against humans.
Ghost Blade and Dark Camouflage were spells that fell under the group of spells that used the Darkness element as a base, and it was no coincidence that I chose these spells.
This was a tactic used by many players.
If you learn how to make a fireball, learning another fire spell will be easier for you in the future, since you already understand the basics of this element, and the same concept applied to other elements.
While the Darkness element isn't very useful against resistant monsters, the use of this element for sneak attacks or assassinations was many.
As I wasn't worried about dealing with monsters but with confrontations I would have with other humans in the city, this element was ideal for me.
Adding this to the fact that I had already found a Shadow Illusion spell that was also based on the Darkness element, I would already have three spells in the same element, which would help me learn all of this faster.
Sure, a normal person wouldn't be able to choose spells like me by looking at videos on the internet and reading information about them in books.
For others, learning a spell required a master to teach it, or buying guides on the internet detailing how to use that spell, and practicing for weeks just to be able to perform it.
With the help of System, I could perform System on my first try just by seeing someone using it on the internet and I could reverse engineer it to learn it much faster.
With a list of useful spells for me to learn, I'd have something useful to do besides developing cards for Runestone for the next few days until my college results came out.
