Chapter 183: 183
The air inside the castle cracked open.
Multiple rifts tore reality apart in the very halls of Kaer Morhen. Glowing blue tears hovered midair, warping stone and space as Wild Hunt warriors poured through. Armored warriors were here with blades drawn. The corridors lit up in flashes of otherworldly light as enemies materialized within the very heart of the fortress.
"INSIDE! THEY'RE INSIDE!" someone shouted.
Kaer Morhen's defenses activated in a synchronized roar. Arcane glyphs etched into the walls by Yennefer and Liam flared to life. Along the inner battlements, automated turrets—Tony's handiwork—swiveled and came alive, targeting the invaders with precision. Their barrels glowed hot, releasing rapid-fire bolts of energy that shredded through the first line of warriors and hounds.
From the far west wing, Tony Stark burst through the hall, the new Javelin Armor the 8th version, unfolding over him mid-stride. His hands flared with pulsing plasma, and on his back, a long metallic lance began charging, its tip gleaming with vibrating magical energy. Yes, it has been enhanced with vibranium parts. Tony wasn't able to make the whole armor made of Vibranium as it might be counter productive since there were chances it could get destroyed.
Vibranium was tough, but it didn't mean that it was indestructible. And it wasn't unlimited unlike other metals.
"Time to redecorate," he muttered, launching himself forward. Tony's lance flew forward, impaling the creature midair and pinning it to a stone pillar with a whummmm! The weapon detonated a second later, blasting the brute apart in a sphere of light.
From above the hall, Triss and Keira fired coordinated spells—bolts of fire and concussive waves slamming into the invaders. One hound tried to leap toward Keira, only for a turret behind her to blast it out of the air.
Geralt, already bloodied from the earlier skirmishes, landed at the foot of the stairs with his sword drawn. He met a dual-bladed specter head-on. Sparks flew as steel clashed with Vibranium metal. He sidestepped, parried, and drove his silver sword up under the creature's helm. Another portal formed to his left, but before anything could emerge, Geralt cast Yrden—a glowing trap circle—locking the portal in place.
"Close them!" he barked to anyone who could.
From across the courtyard, Avallac'h lifted both arms and chanted in the Elder Speech. A torrent of raw force surged through the inner halls, slamming into one of the newly opened portals and sealing it with a thunderous boom. He staggered, nose bleeding, but managed to steady himself. He was still very weak.
"More will open," he warned. "They're trying to rip open the veil completely."
"Then we'll give them reason to regret it." Yennefer said.
A massive knight emerged from the eastern wing—a commander by the looks of his ornate armor. He raised a spectral greatsword, the blade whispering with cold magic. He charged at the nearest target: Steve.
Steve raised his shield just in time, the clash echoing like a bell struck by thunder. The force pushed him back a few steps, boots sliding against the stone—but he held fast.
Natasha was already moving behind the knight. She leapt, two short magical blades in hand—crafted by Keira, fast and glowing. She struck at the back joints of the knight's armor. He roared, turned, but Steve seized the opportunity and slammed his shield into the knight's helm.
The blow staggered him. Tony finished the job with a blast from his arm cannon that tore through the knight's chestplate.
More portals flared in the big courtyard.
"We need to hold the courtyard. If they take this ground, it's over." Vesemir said while panting. Liam who was on the courtyard had his staff blazing with renewed power. He pointed it toward the newest portal—and the very stone around the tear rose like fingers, encasing it. Then it imploded, as if swallowed by the earth itself.
"We hold," Liam said. "No matter what."
Then the temperature in the courtyard dropped sharply.
A huge rift opened—silent at first, no fire, no noise—just a slow warping of the air, like reality itself didn't want to be touched there.
From the rift stepped a tall figure cloaked in black and frost.
His presence sucked the heat from the room. His staff gleamed like ice. No blade in his hand—he didn't need one. The magic swirling around him was enough to freeze fire mid-flame.
Caranthir Ar-Feiniel, the other hand of Eredin and the one responsible for the rifts around. He was a mage at the same level as Avallac'h. The moment he appeared he looked at Liam. At first he thought he was seeing Ciri, but seeing the gender and the subtle difference in powers, he knew that this person wasn't Ciri, but he definitely had ties with them.
He had already made his mind. He needed to kidnap both him and Ciri.
Everyone turned. Even Liam took a step back.
"Oh, crap," Tony whispered. "We've got a boss fight."
Caranthir raised one hand—and half the torches in the castle snuffed out. The other hand gestured—and one of the remaining turrets froze solid before shattering into shards.
"You've delayed the inevitable. But it begins now. Take them all", Caranthir commanded. "Bring me the boy and the girl alive."
The hounds charged first.
Liam met them head-on, spinning his staff in a defensive arc. One of the hounds lunged—and Liam jabbed the base of his staff into the ground. A circular pulse of kinetic energy exploded outward, blasting the beast midair and flinging it backward like a broken puppet. The second hound veered, leaping at his blindside—only for Tony to drop from the air, lance spinning, and ram it straight through the creature's spine.
Caranthir lifted both hands, summoning a massive wave of freezing mist. The fog swallowed the courtyard, obscuring vision and chilling skin to the bone. Cries echoed—confusion and pain.
"I've lost visuals." Tony said over comms.
Liam closed his eyes and slammed the base of his staff down again. Light bloomed in a perfect dome, cutting through the fog with golden clarity. Within that sphere, the frost began to crackle and retreat.
