Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 123: 123. A Deal in the North

Jason Liu had made up his mind. He decided to establish a sawmill near Winterfell, on the vast forest land bordering the wolf forest. This land, stretching over nearly one million square kilometers, was full of ancient trees. It had been home to these trees for centuries, and there was an abundance of forest resources—resources that, in his opinion, should not go unused.

He knew that opening a modern business could not just be about spending money without any return. He had to make a profit. So, he planned to cut down the trees and send the logs to modern timber mills for processing, then sell the finished timber. This would be his first major source of wealth in Westeros, combining his business skills with the resources available in the North.

The process of felling the trees itself was simple—there was no complicated technical work involved. It was all about hiring the right people for the job. Additionally, the timber market was profitable, and there was a lot of money to be made. However, there was one major issue he had to deal with before moving forward: he needed permission from the Stark family. After all, Winterfell was their territory. The forest, with its many trees, was part of their land. If Jason wanted to cut down trees, he needed to get the Starks' approval. He had no doubt they would want compensation for the timber, and without that agreement, they wouldn't allow him to proceed.

So, Jason decided to have a discussion with Eddard Stark. It would be an important conversation, as it was not just about the trees—it was about the development of the North's resources and how they could be used to improve the region's economy.

This meeting would be the first time Jason met Eddard Stark, and he knew that first impressions were crucial. But what made a good first impression? Was it dressing well? Having a handsome appearance? Was it showing off his noble manners? While all of these things might help, they were not the most important. What mattered most was the gift he would bring.

People always remember a gift, especially when it's well chosen. A good gift speaks volumes about the giver, showing generosity and respect. Jason Liu knew this well. If he gave Eddard Stark something special, it would show that he valued the relationship and respected the Stark family. After all, in any society, gifts were a way of building goodwill.

So, Jason's plan was to bring a well-chosen gift to Winterfell. He believed that a thoughtful present would not only earn the Starks' favor but also strengthen his relationship with them. This would make it easier for him to negotiate the timber deal, as well as secure future cooperation. Jason knew that this approach was crucial—if the Starks didn't like him or felt insulted, they might reject his proposal altogether.

Once he had decided on this strategy, Jason immediately made arrangements to return to his modern company. He drove his sports car back to the office, where Jiang Chuchu, who had recently been promoted to manager of the sales department, was surprised to see him. She had not heard from him in a while and wondered if he had forgotten about the company.

"Mr. Liu, you actually showed up today? I thought you'd forgotten about the company!" she said, a little taken aback.

Jason knew that he had been spending most of his time in Westeros and had not been as focused on his modern business. But as the boss, he couldn't let his subordinates question his commitment. He replied with a smile, "I'm not worried about the company. I've personally selected several good people to manage it. Why, are you saying you don't think I'm doing a good job? Should I replace you as sales manager?"

Jiang Chuchu froze, looking at him with wide eyes. After a moment, she quickly shook her head. "No, no! I can manage the sales department just fine! No need to change anything!"

Jason's playful challenge left her speechless, and she quickly fell into a more professional tone. As the general manager, Jason made sure to remind her and the other managers of their responsibilities, even if he wasn't always present.

"You managers are the backbone of the company," he said. "I value you all, and I hope that, even when I'm not here, you'll carry out your duties with dedication. Understand?"

Jiang Chuchu nodded quickly, agreeing with him. "I understand, Mr. Liu! You're right!"

After the brief chat, she guided Jason to see the two new commercial vehicles the company had just purchased. "Mr. Liu, come check out these new cars. I spent half a day choosing them. They look great and are practical too," she said proudly.

When they reached the parking lot, Jason saw two large commercial vehicles—one silver-gray and the other black. He sat inside one of them and tested it out. The interior was spacious, and it felt comfortable.

"How do you like it, Mr. Liu?" Jiang Chuchu asked, eager for his opinion.

Jason wasn't really an expert on cars, but he knew that the vehicles were practical and met the needs of a business. They were stylish without being too flashy. "It looks good," he said, nodding approvingly. "You've clearly put some thought into this. Well done."

Jiang Chuchu couldn't help but smile, pleased that her choice had earned Jason's approval.

After testing the cars, Jason chose one to be his official vehicle. He preferred something more low-key than his sports car, which was too attention-grabbing and uncomfortable for regular use. He handed over the keys to his sports car to Lin Xiaohan and Jiang Chuchu, instructing them to drive it back to his villa after work. He would use the more modest business car for his upcoming trip.

As they were preparing to leave, Lin Xiaohan noticed the sports car keys and asked, "Where are you going, Mr. Liu?"

Jason smiled but didn't give a detailed answer. Lin Xiaohan and Jiang Chuchu both knew where his villa was, but neither had been there yet. Lin Xiaohan couldn't help but wonder if Jason had some sort of hidden agenda. But when she saw that Jiang Chuchu was accompanying him, she relaxed, figuring it wasn't anything to worry about. Jason Liu was a straightforward person—too much of a "straight steel man" to be trying anything sneaky.

With the keys handed over, Jason was ready to head out, knowing that he had a plan to execute, one that would soon win the favor of the Starks—and maybe even others in Westeros.
