Chapter 283: 283. Also a Big Guy
Jason Liu had no burden in his heart about using those criminals for human experiments. Anyway, they were a group of heinous criminals. Before they died, they could make some contribution to medicine—it could be considered a form of compensation for their crimes.
As for those clamoring individuals who wanted to offer humane care to prisoners and opposed using death row inmates for medical experiments, Jason Liu didn't think highly of them at all.
He only hoped that when criminals committed atrocities against them or their families in the future, these do-gooders would still be shouting for humanitarian care.
At that point, Jason Liu would truly respect them—as a bunch of idiotic saints!
When encountering such people, everyone should keep their distance, so as not to be implicated when lightning strikes.
After thinking for a while, Jason Liu raised his chin slightly and said to Boris, who was watching him, "Let's go. Let's meet this Bachelor of Science who supposedly stumped you with every medical question!"
"Bachelor of Science?" Boris was stunned for a moment, then looked even more confused.
No wonder he had always found the old man familiar! It turned out the other party also came from an academic background.
But how had he never heard of a Bachelor of Science before? Yet Master Jason seemed to call it out with confidence?
Though he had doubts, seeing that Jason had already taken dicken's four guards and was heading toward East Hospital, Boris slapped his forehead and hurried to follow.
When Jason Liu walked into East Hospital—a two-story wooden building—he saw a tall, hunchbacked, gray-haired old man in a gray robe, smiling as he cleaned the foot wound of a farmer.
Nearby, Boris's little assistant Polly and another young boy were handing steel tools to the skilled Qyburn.
When Qyburnsaw Jason Liu walk in, surrounded by dicken and his armed guards, his blue eyes suddenly lit up, and the wrinkles on his face deepened with a broad smile.
"You must be the rumored Earl Jason East from the Empire in the Far East?"
Bachelor Qyburn slowly turned around. Though slightly hunched, his blue eyes focused on Jason Liu with a signature, amiable smile.
Jason Liu stopped about two meters away from Qyburn. His eyes instinctively drifted to Qyburn's skinny, blood-stained hands. When he met the old man's gentle smile, a chill ran down his spine. He suddenly didn't want to be close to this seemingly kind yet ruthless man.
It wasn't anything specific—just that the contrast between Qyburn's bloody hands and his smiling face gave off an eerie vibe. So, Jason Liu wisely chose to keep his distance.
Seeing Jason Liu pause, the four guards stepped forward, positioning themselves protectively in front of their lord while staring cautiously at Qyburn.
Following Jason's gaze, Qyburnnoticed that his hands were still stained with the farmer's blood. Raising his hands slightly, he smiled apologetically. "Forgive me, Lord East. Please allow me to wash the blood off my hands first…"
As he spoke, Qyburn turned to Polly, who instinctively brought over a basin with soap.
"Thank you—"
Qyburn thanked the boy politely, then dipped his hands into the basin filled with water. Picking up the soap, he inspected it and praised, "I recognize this item called soap. It's one of the goods you brought with you, Lord East.
It's very effective—I already used it at a hotel I stayed in on the way north."
Jason Liu didn't respond. He simply observed the wise man before him. Yes, aside from his obsessive thirst for academic knowledge, Qyburn was certainly a clever person.
At the very least, his grandfatherly smile and gentle tone could easily inspire trust. Hadn't Boris's young assistant Polly already fallen under his influence?
Once Qyburn washed the blood off, Polly quickly took the basin and went to dispose of the water. Qyburn gave him another warm "thank you."
"This is the Earl from the Eastern Empire—Lord Jason East—the owner of East Store and East Hospital," Boris introduced solemnly.
Then, staring at Qyburn with a puzzled expression, he hesitated before asking, "Qyburn… Bachelor? Were you a bachelor from the famous Oldtown Academy? Forgive me for being blunt, but I don't see a bachelor's chain around your neck."
The smile on Qyburn's face remained unchanged.
Facing Boris's question, he nodded slightly and replied calmly, "I was, once.
But due to certain reasons, the Academy revoked my bachelor's status and reclaimed the chain. I was then expelled."
"So, I'm no longer a bachelor. You may just call me Qyburn," he added with a smile.
Hearing this, Boris's eyes widened slightly. "You were stripped of your title and expelled from the Academy?" he asked cautiously. "What did you do to deserve such a punishment? That's no minor offense."
Qyburn's smile faded slightly. His blue eyes turned to Jason Liu, and, gauging his reaction, he spoke slowly: "I don't believe I did anything wrong. I merely used criminals—those guilty of robbery and theft—for new medical experiments. All in the name of advancing medical research."
As he said this, Qyburn studied Jason Liu's expression carefully. Not seeing any sign of repulsion or moral outrage, he quietly let out a sigh of relief. Inwardly, he thought this young lord from a foreign land might understand his views.
So Qyburn continued, "What I considered progress in medicine, the Academy saw as unethical.
They said my experiments were immoral and violated the Academy's rules. So, despite my protests, they stripped me of my title and expelled me.
"Those stubborn fools in their gray robes cling to outdated traditions. They'll never deepen their understanding of the human body or achieve breakthroughs in medicine!"
As Qyburn spoke of the bachelors who revoked his title and rejected his theories, bitterness crept into his tone.
Boris instinctively countered, "But using prisoners for medical experiments is too cruel. That's strictly forbidden in the Academy…"
