Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Prophecy and War
Under the vast sky, the crescent moon was like a hook, and the stars and rivers rotated, waxing and waning.
Marco looked at the ferocious face of Morey Hutt, with angry eyes and teeth illuminated by the bonfire, and his suspicion grew stronger.
He really couldn't connect this man with the Faceless Men. A High Valyrian saying related to the belief in the Many-Faced God is "All men must die, and all men need to serve." The Faceless Men believe that death is a gift from the gods. They are merely servants of the Many-Faced God, never satisfying vanity and selfishness. They are low-key, calm, gentle, and kind.
But the Faceless Men are also adept at acting. As part of their training, they need to abandon their true identities and regard themselves as "nobodies." Additionally, they can change their appearance at will and act like whoever they want, making it difficult to discern if it's a disguise.
"Kosoro, cut off this man's head and send it to the people of Qohor, and ask them if they recognize him."
Marco smiled slightly and stopped guessing about things he couldn't fathom. Why trouble himself? Before the physical resurrection of the Twelve Trials of the Noble Phantasm is activated, all dangers must be nipped in the bud.
Whether he is a Faceless assassin or a true messenger.
What he wanted from the people of Qohor could not be obtained through war, nor through negotiation, so the messenger was of little use to him.
If the man's head could anger the Qohor people in the city and provoke them to send troops out of the city for battle, that would be ideal.
Kosoro never hesitated to respond to Khal's orders, so he drew his arakh and walked toward Morey Hutt.
Seemingly surprised by Marco's order, the angry Morey Hutt froze, then shouted excitedly:
"I am the envoy of Qohor City. You cannot kill me. This will trigger a war."
Seeing no one responded, he tried to retreat, but was pushed to the ground by the roaring warrior behind him. He could only lie on the ground in despair and begged:
"Khal, Khal Marco, please, please."
"Prophecy, it's a prophecy. The blood witch of Qohor City predicted the future of the nobles in the city, and he saw you in the prophecy."
The machete shimmered against the bonfire, flashing into Morey Hutt's eyes. The remaining trace of calmness in his eyes disappeared, and the hidden sharpness turned into a desperate plea. His voice was hoarse as he shouted in despair:
"The fiery red horse is coming from the east, and the king of mankind is about to be born. Darkness, flames, and destruction stand behind him. The city of Qohor is filled with headless corpses, and the black goat roars in the flames."
Marco only considers strength and never cares about prophecies. He despises this man's superficial respect and pretentious sense of superiority and loathes those who sacrifice others. Therefore, he still felt that killing Morey Hutt was more valuable.
After inciting Morey Hutt, the old man Oliver remained silent. When he heard this prophecy, he suddenly turned sideways and whispered:
"The city of Qohor is known as the 'City of Wizards.' Divination, blood magic, and necromancy are popular. The people of Qohor firmly believe in these magics. You may choose to listen to it. This may be useful in the war. We are in a good position."
However, when he mentioned blood magic, his face was full of disgust. The Dothraki distrusted, hated, and banned blood magic. They believed that blood magic was the product of the user's intercourse with the devil.
After hearing the old man's suggestion, Marco waved his hand to stop Kosoro, who was about to take action, and said loudly:
"Morey Hutt, you lack loyalty to your god. He will no longer grant you protection. Now explain this prophecy to me, and maybe I will grant you the gift of life."
Morey Hutt lay on the ground exhausted and helpless, breathing heavily and in a state of embarrassment, and explained honestly:
"It was the blood witch Bas Potter. He used blood magic with a beast and the daughter of a noble, giving birth to a deformed baby that was half human and half beast. Then Bas Potter sacrificed the baby and received a prophecy about the future of the noble. But the clues he saw in the prophecy are all related to you, and the future fate of the people of Qohor is in your hands."
As the name suggests, blood magic is a type of magic derived from blood. It is one of the darkest and most powerful forms of witchcraft. Users of blood magic are called blood witches or sorcerers. Their prophecies are usually made through blood, hence their unsavory reputation.
Morey Hutt's description also aroused the disgust of everyone present, but if he wanted to survive, he could only continue:
"Do you remember the tax collector at the Long Bridge of the Undercurrent River? At that time, you rode a flaming red horse across the bridge. Your figure and heroic appearance left an indelible memory for him. He was a devout believer of the Black Goat God. When the blood witch Bas Potter spoke the prophecy, the tax collector immediately thought of you."
Marco thought of the group of submissive tax officials he met when surveying the terrain, but he couldn't identify which one it was.
Seeing that the young Khal didn't respond, Morey Hutt's voice became more flattering:
"Great Khal, you came from the east on a flaming red horse and easily defeated the invincible Khal Jumo. You are the king of mankind confirmed in the prophecy, and the flames refer to the followers of R'hllor. They have always wanted to preach in Qohor and incite believers to burn the altar of the Black Goat God. We are worried that you will be seduced by this group of pagans."
At this moment, Marco completely understood the prophecy. The Black Goat believers feared that R'hllor's followers would cooperate with him to capture the city of Qohor and eradicate the Black Goat faith that dominated the people of Qohor.
R'hllor, also known as the Lord of Light, the Red God, and the God of Flame, is a god in Essos. At night, his followers light fires in the temple and pray to R'hllor to grant them dawn. The worship of R'hllor, the Lord of Light, is a tradition seen throughout Essos. However, after the extinction of the dragons, R'hllor's magic power seemed to gradually disappear, making it less effective than the prophecies of witches and blood magic.
In this world, magic prophecies are still quite accurate. Although it's unknown how powerful the blood wizard Bas Potter is, what he does sounds quite evil.
However, the battle of faith has nothing to do with him now. He just wants to benefit from it.
Marco's eyes were cold, but his tone was calm as usual. He smiled and said:
"In that case, wait and see whether the prophecy of the blood wizard Bas Potter can really come true. After all, you don't seem to be sure of the accuracy of the prophecy."
Morey Hutt was a little surprised. He really didn't expect the young Khal to say that.
"Great Khal Marco, the followers of the Black Goat have presented gold to you."
"People of Qohor," Marco stood up and shouted angrily, "Do you think that I will be like other Khals on the Dothraki Sea, and you can easily send them away by just paying some tribute of gold? I have only one piece of advice for the people of Qohor—kneel down and surrender, or prepare for war. I will hang your heads on Dothraki spears like your ancestors treated the Dothraki warriors four hundred years ago."
Morey Hutt was stunned by the reaction of the young Khal. Before he could beg for mercy, Marco continued to shout:
"Kosoro, cut off this man's limbs, don't let him die, and send him to the people of Qohor. Tell our tribal warriors that the war is coming."
